DATE & TIME : October 20th, Morning WEATHER CONDITIONS : A slight chill in the air from it still being morning. CHARACTERS INVOLVED : Summer and Fireworm, Anyone else who wants to join, though it should be someone that Fireworm knows so that she doesn't attack to protect Summer. PREVIOUS THREADS ? None. This thread is to explain what Summer has been doing since I had my leave of absence because of real life craziness. Summer couldn't remember how long it had been since she had left Berk. It wasn't like her to usually just leave, but she felt the need to get out of her normal routine. She felt trapped and needed a long and deserving break from the island. Leaving her brother in the care of Chad, who knew what sort of trouble the young boy had gotten himself into, she had flown away. She hadn't really told anyone. She didn't want to be stopped. She wanted to go alone. She knew that if she told anyone they would try to stop her, or say that someone must go with her. But she was old enough to venture out on her own! She cared for herself, her brother, and their two dragons after all.
As she neared the island while sitting on Fireworm’s back, she couldn’t help the quick going nausea that was starting to settle itself in her stomach. She missed her brother. She missed her home. She missed…Horik. She swallowed and chewed on her lip, her brow creasing with worry. Of course she hadn’t told him that she was leaving for a short adventure to different islands. He had important things to do here. She didn’t really have an importance on the island. Well, not really. She did have to protect it. She had just sort of assumed that it would be fine in the couple months that she would be gone.
And she was right. She was coming in from the opposite side of the village. It was still night, but she could see the bright flame lights of the village on the other side of the island. The village looked to be sleeping and in the state it was when she left. She signaled to Fireworm to land in the clearing, her dragon obliged and as soon as she had landed and Summer had jumped off her back, she took to rolling in the Dragon Nip. Summer couldn’t help but laugh at her dragon as it made growing purring noises that seemed to fill the quiet night air.
Summer looked towards the direction of the village. She could be back in her bed right now. But she couldn’t do that without going to get her brother. He was no doubt sleeping right now. Which meant that Chad was probably asleep as well. Since she had just left her brother there without really a valid reason, she didn’t think the teacher would like the rude awakening when she came back to pick him up. She gave a soft sigh as she turned back to Fireworm with a smile. It wouldn’t do much harm to wait until morning. Fireworm was already starting to relax, she purring was still going on but she was just lying there.
Summer walked over to her pack and shuffled inside until she found the blanket that had been keeping her warm from the cold elements whenever she had landed on an island for the night. Finding a nice spot in the grass, she laid her pack down and followed suit, her head lying softly on it as she pulled the blanket over herself. Only moments passed in which Fireworm stood up from her spot and circled herself around Summer shutting the night air away from the petite girl. With that both drifted off.
~~~~~~~~~Couple Hours Later~~~~~~~~
It was a footstep sounding off in the distance that awoke Fireworm. Their time away from the island had made her more alert, especially when sleeping. Fireworm tilted her head up and looked towards the sound. At first nothing could be seen. But the movement of the dragon caused a soft breeze to enter where Summer had been sleeping in warmth. She stirred, rubbing her eyes and still being hidden by her dragons side. She noticed the sky had changed from the dark of night to the light of day. Finally noticing the tenseness of her dragon friend, she turned slightly and rested her hand on Fireworm’s neck. ”Easy girl. There’s nothing there.’ Fireworm stayed tense, waiting to see whatever had made the sound.
Nasty dragon breath, that's what Horik had woken up to. Argent was in his face with those eyes that just said "Take me outside." Horik looked around the quiet room as he sat up and rubbed his face, it was pretty early in the morning but that didn't matter much. He slipped out of bed and patted Argent on the head and walked by him to get to his clothing so he could at least be warmer. Argent had already started to make his way out the door before Horik was even closed to being dressed, he smirked to himself as he watched the white back end of the nightmare leave the building.
" Burly, hairy ladies and buff, scary men. Argent has left the building. " Horik chuckled to himself at his joke as he slipped his feet into his boots and tightened them up. He grabbed an apple from the bowl that sat on the table and walked out of the home, biting into the tough apple. Argent sat outside waiting for Horik to come along and when he finally appeared, Argent rose from his seated position and walked along side Horik as they walked down the village path.
It was a colder then average morning, things were obviously starting to approach devastating winter sooner then anticipated, but no matter. Horik continued to eat the apple that he had brought along with him and looked around at the few villagers that were crazy enough to be up at this time of day. But hey, being up and getting things done early isn't always a bad thing right? More free time to relax and do what you want, that was definitely a plus. His mind wandered back as he looked up into the early morning sky. He observed the stars that were still out as he continued to walk with his dragon. One thing crossed his mind though, and that one thing or person rather was Summer. He had been curious to know where she had gone off to, he knew she would be back eventually but he still wanted to see her face and hear her talk so badly. He looked back down and in front of him as they walked out into the forest edge.
Things were quiet as the pair walked through forest together. They just walked aimlessly through as the morning slowly dragged on. Horik enjoyed his walks with Argent, they were always this nice and quiet like it was now. He enjoyed quiet. They kept marching through the dim forest as it slowly began to light up.
Horik heard his footstep echo as he hit a pile of pine needles, oops. They kept walking, but it wasn't long until Horik noticed at dragon and a person. He looked precariously at the pair he was viewing before it suddenly dawned upon him that he knew who he was looking at. Summer and Fireworm. Horik smirked to himself, he could be a little sneaky here. He made a hand gesture for Argent to stay where he was before he began to creep in the shadows as he made his way behind the pair. He made sure he stayed as quietly as he could as he moved closer to Summer's back. As he got pretty much right behind her he leaned in carefully and whispered into her ear.
"Boo " He said softly
Even though Summer had let her guard down, Fireworm didn’t. She knew what she heard and it had been a footstep. They were near enough to the village that it could just be someone out walking in the morning. But they were also near to where outsiders like to roam. The latter could be a dangerous thing given the age and how long some of them had been on their own. Summer just shook her head as her dragon kept looking straight and not really moving. She set about getting ready to go back into the village. So far she had put away her blanket and tugged on a jacket to keep the chill away when they flew in.
Fireworm’s efforts had paid off. While there was no movement to where she had been looking before, a slight movement to the left caught her attention. There, sneaking up on the dragon and her rider was Horik. Fireworm almost twinged with excitement. That meant that Argent was probably nearby. She didn’t let on to Summer that she knew Horik was sneaking behind her, but she also didn’t let on to Horik that she had seen him. Instead she settled her head down and waited for what would unfold.
Life in the wild, had taught Summer to be a little suspicious about noises. So, as she picked up her bow from the ground and straightened up the ”Boo,” that she heard made her eyes fly wide. She rolled forward, knocking an arrow on the bow and pointing towards whoever had sneaked up behind her. Her body tensed and just as she almost released the arrow it shone on her who this was. She froze for a moment before reacting. She quickly pointed the arrow and bow down while unknocking the arrow.
It only took a couple seconds for her to drop the bow and jump up. She basically attacked him as she wrapped her arms around him for a hug. But her moment of joy at seeing him soon passed to a short quick bit of anger. She pulled back and slapped him hard enough on the chest to sting a bit, but not leave a mark. ”That was stupid! Sneaking up on someone whose pretty much isolated herself from everyone and is already on edge from being snuck up on by predators wasn’t smart! What if I would’ve released that arrow before looking?!” Her eyes narrowed slighty.
It was true. What if she would’ve released the arrow? But a soft chortling shook her out of her madness as she looked at Fireworm who was to be seen laughing at her. Summer glared at her dragon. ”So you knew about this as well?” Her dragon shook its head as it tried to stop laughing at her rider. ”You know it would’ve been your fault as well if he got hurt, right?” Fireworm sobered up and dropped her head knowing Summer was right.
Summer sighed and rolled her eyes. ”Well at least I didn’t hurt him.” She turned back to Horik as she released a sigh. She couldn’t help it and she walked over to him and wrapped her arms around him in another hug, this time not moving back. ”I missed you.” She kept her head buried in his chest as she awaited his reaction.
Horik watched as Summer's quick reflexes kicked in and as she grabbed her bow and notched and arrow and swung around and aimed at him, his heart raced. He was pretty lucky though that Summer had realized that it was him before she just about let loose the arrow at him. When he watched her drop her bow and the arrow he smiled. Horik felt Summer pretty much just about fly right into him as she hugged him, but before he could wrap his arms back around her, she moved back. He knew she wasn't going to be too thrilled with the fact that he just scared her.
Horik listened to Summer quickly complain about how she had been in isolation and he shouldn't of done that. When she looked over at her dragon, so did he. Horik had no doubt that Fireworm had known that he was there long before Summer had. He smirked at the nightmare before gesturing over towards Argents way to come on over. Argent plodded his way over to the group and turned his gaze to Fireworm and moved closer to her.
"Nice to see your face again. Been quite awhile." Argent said as he rubbed himself against Fireworm.
Horik looked back from the dragons to Summer. When he watched Summer come closer to him and hug him once again, he smiled to himself. He wrapped his arms around her this time and kissed the top of her head.
He said in a hushed tone. He rubbed his hand along Summers upper back and pulled back abit so he could see her face. He asked her questions quickly and smirked at her.
When both humans had started to look away, Fireworm had lifted her head just enough to see Horik wave something over. Her head shot up and turned to see Argent coming over. She gave a low growling purr as he rubbed against her and spoke. ”It has hasn’t it? A couple months, if I am correct. How have you been?” She said as she rubbed back against him for a moment before taking her spot back on the Dragon Nip and rubbing her side into it for a moment before lying completely down. Many of the places they had gone to hadn’t had this great feeling plant, and it felt amazing to be near it again. And of course she was now talking to her next favorite dragon. Or favorite. Sometimes her brothers Night Fury could get on her nerves.
Summer couldn’t help but smile as she felt him give a soft kiss on her head and speak in a hushed tone. He pulled away slightly and she took her head off his chest so she could look him in the face as he spoke again. She couldn’t help but give a little chuckle. It felt nice to be near an actual human being again. Most of the time that she and Fireworm had landed, there hadn’t been anything apart from other types of dragons or animals. There were hardly any people.
Though, that could’ve been Summer’s fault. She tended to stay away from other villages least they see her flying in on the back of a Monstrous Nightmare as a sign of attack. That would’ve put a quick end to the little adventure they had left on. She pondered his questions a moment before speaking. ”I’ve been pretty good. We both have actually. It was really easy to survive with both of us. We didn’t ever go hungry and we stopped when we needed the rest. The trip was good. It felt nice to get away and not have to worry about pleasing anyone or following any rules. We could be us without others looking down upon us. As for new things,” she paused.
It wasn’t as if she didn’t see new things, it was just that most of the islands that they visited were pretty similar to their Berk. ”Hmmm….well, a lot of the places we visited were similar to our own. Most had the same type of living creatures and plants. There were a couple different plants that I would come across. I was going to pick some and bring them back, but they’ve would’ve died and wilted by the time I got back. I tried not to visit places where I didn’t see any dragons in the villages. I didn’t want them to think I was attacking them.”
She let out a soft sigh as a smirk came across her lips. ”I did meet a pretty amazing guy.” She pulled away from him as she took a peak at Fireworm who let out a chortled laugh. ”He was tall. A little taller than you actually.” She turned to look back at Horik. ”He had the most amazing eyes I had ever seen. They were green, almost like a sea green with hints of blue to them. And they were so expressive!” She let her tone get wistful and dreamy as a small smile appeared on her lips. She paused slightly to gauge Horik’s reaction before continuing.
”He was so kind and gentle. But he was also young. Only a couple years older than us. Or at least, that’s what he looked like. And he was all alone.” Her voice dropped slightly to get a sad and hurt tinge to it. ”His island had been burnt down and raided by some nearby Vikings. At least, that what it looked like. I didn’t want to ask. I asked if he wanted to come back here, to Berk, with Fireworm and I. But before we could talk much more, he…” she turned to Fireworm who dropped her head. ”flew away.” She turned back to Horik wondering what he was thinking. ((So don't even ask. xD I had no idea where I was going with this but it happened and its making me laugh and try not to cry because I'm laughing so hard because..it's just..priceless lol She could totally be talking about a guy, until the flew away part XD))
Argent listened to Fireworm as she spoke, he made is way beside her again and laid down with her. " It has been a couple months, yes. While you've been gone and moving around constantly, I've been sitting here on my butt. " He snorted after he finished.
Horik watched as Summer moved away from him when she started to talk about a guy that she had met on her travels. About how this guy was taller then him and had amazing eyes, and how he was so kind and gentle. Horik kinda got more curious and a little bit jealous, but something seemed a little off. Even if Summer was telling the truth and being serious, she was doing quite abit of smirking and Horik took smirking as a joking look from people. He looked up and grinned to himself, He'll play along. Actually better, he'll come up with a quick litte story himself.
"Oh really now? Trying to replace me?"" He looked down at Summer with his eyebrow raised and the grin turned to a straight line. "Well I'll have you know that I met a pretty impressive girl while you were gone, she liked to keep me company while you were away. " He turned around and looked out the corner of his eye to Summer and her expression so far. "Oh the nights and days we spent in private with each other were oh so blissful. " Horik turned back around and continued to watch Summer expression, he thought he was acting quite well. "She did soo much more then you ever did months ago. " Horik waked closer to Summer and grinned. "Oh what was her name? Oh that's right. Her name was Handgelia " He said as he held up his hand with a huge smirk on his face as he looked between Summer and his raised hand. "Beautiful Ain't she? "
Fireworm let out a soft chortle. ”Well, now you can sit on your butt next to me. We only stopped to rest and eat. I don’t think I ever flew so much before.” She paused a moment to look up at the sky. ”I need at least a couple days rest before I’m back up there doing all those aerial practices Summer and I usually do.” She gave a shrug and looked back at Argent. ”But who really knows, maybe I’ll need half that.” Summer had smirked as she saw the emotions flick across his face. First curiosity, then jealousy. It had almost made her laugh, but she had kept going. Towards the end though, she could tell that he ha figured it out. Or at least came pretty close to the truth. In all honesty, she was telling the truth. She did meet someone exactly as she said. But he was a dragon. A Longwing. Those dragons seemed to have the most beautiful eyes. All you had to do was look at Arya’s Saphira and see that. She titled her head as she finished and turned to Horik. When at first he asked the question, she schooled her face into a thoughtful look and shrugged. But a light simile tugged at the corner of her lips when his grin disappeared. As he started talking about this other girl, Summer’s headed tilted to the right and she raised an eyebrow. The smile she had been trying to stuff down, finally starting to show itself. He started speaking again about them being alone and for a minute a hint of jealousy appeared in the form of the smile slipping and her eyes narrowing slightly. Her eyes widened slightly as he spoke and a faint blush tainted her cheeks. But when he raised his hand, her face broke out into a grin and she couldn’t hold back the laugh that came out. She didn’t even think her words would come out right so she just shook her head with a grin as she looked at him. ”And to think, I almost started to believe you.” She sighed and glanced at Fireworm before looking back to Horik. ”But in all seriousness, my story was true.” She gave a slight pause, trying to think the words through before actually saying them. ”I met a Longwing dragon on this island that looked like it had been burned down. Some of the village that was made or rock was still standing. But there wasn’t a sign of life anywhere. Until this sea green colored dragon came out of the sky. He was huge, Fireworm quickly told him what we were doing before he could attack. I said he could come back with us, but he said he had to watch after others of his kind.” She gave a small shrug. ”But that was a few months ago. How were you?” She couldn’t help but glance down at the ground for a moment and try to stop the laugh. The image of just a couple seconds ago making her want to laugh.[/blockquote]
Horik smirked as he watched Summer laugh at his long-stretched joke. But his smirked turned into a soft smile as he listened to Summer speak again about how she came across a Longwing. She talked about the island briefly about how it looked like it had been burned down and that there was exactly sign on life anywhere until the large green dragon had come down from the skies. Horik had never seen a Longwing of course but he has heard about them before, he doesn't know a whole lot about them but he knew enough to suffice.
He turned his gaze away for a moment to take a look around the surrounding area before returning it back to Summer. He tilted his head side to side slightly as she asked how he had been.
" Eh. Pretty good I suppose. I mean I've kept myself busy trying to put together new contraptions and such. Oh what a nightmare that can be. " He smacked his face with the palm of his hand and chuckled. " You don't know what it's like trying to get materials you need, forget refining them and putting them into place." He laugh again and smiled again. He looked over at Argent and Fireworm as they laid next to each other in the grass. "Well don't they just look comfy? "
Argent laid against Fireworm and dropped his head down onto the soft grass. "Sounds like too much work. I'd rather just sit on my lazy butt half the time then have to fly and do aerial practice and such"
Summer let a smile slip on her face as he spoke about how much of a drag it was trying to find all the materials. She gave a side-smile and laugh before talking. ”I think I do know. Remember when I helped you look for those items you needed around that mountain? Then we ended up getting chased by that Skrill?” She shook her head. That seemed like only weeks ago, when in reality in was a couple months ago. She gave a small sigh as she turned to look at their two Monstrous Nightmares lying side-by-side. She nodded as a fond expression overtook her face.
”That they do. I’ll be comfy once I’m lying back in my own bed instead of on the ground. It’s great to be back home.” She paused a moment and her eyes flew open. She almost forgot. She just about slapped her forehead. ”Crud! Mitch! He doesn’t even know I’m back. How could I forget my little brother?! He’ll be glad to be at our house instead of Chad’s.” She walked a couple steps away and picked up her bow and her bag. She slung both over her shoulders before giving a small whistle. ”Fireworm. We need to get Mitch. Let’s go.” She gave a small inward smile. She was glad she picked up dragonese on her and her dragons journey.
Fireworm chuckled at Argent. ”Perhaps that is where you and I differ. I like flying as much as I can. When I have to sit around I get restless. But it’s overdue.” She looked over to Summer and Horik just as Summer started speaking to her. She gave a small nod as she stood up. When she did Summer climbed on her dragons back and looked to Horik. ”Do you two want to come with? Or meet up later?” Fireworm shifted on her feet, waiting for their answer. It would be good to see the young boy and the Night Fury again.[/blockquote]
Horik recalled that dreadful skrill all to well. It's not like it was a traumatizing experience, but it certainly not a pleasant one either. It was fun to be able to out run and out smart such a dragon with nightmares, not that nightmares couldn't do that of course. He listened to Summer speak before he saw her move away and say aloud that she forgot about her brother. He chuckled a bit.
" Ahah. Ah yes the little brother. Probably should go check up on him shouldn't you? " He listened as Summer asked if he wanted to come along or stay back. He smiled and walked over to Argents side. " Might as well come right? Plus I haven't met your brother before, or at least properly if at all. " He kicked Argent lightly with the side of his foot " Get up ya lazy yak skin " With a grunt from the large dragon, Argent got up on his feet and looked back to his owner. Horik got on Argents back and nodded over to Summer.
Just as Horik was about to take off, he yelled over to Summer. " First one there wins! " Right after he spoke out, the lazy nightmare turned energetic and bounced into the air from the clearing and straight into the sky. Could Horik with this race? Eh.. MAYBE. But Argent bolted forward and zipped as fast through the air as he could back towards the village.
