DRAGONSOn Berk, dragons have been around ever since the first Vikings had sailed there. One day, Bork the Bold began to catalogue the dragons, catergorising them into several classes depending on their traits and abilities. Vikings still use this catergorising method today with each new dragon they discover. The seven classes are Stoker, Boulder, Fear, Sharp, Tidal, Mystery, and Strike.
With the discovery of wingless dragons, the Earthbound Class has been created.
On Berk, at the age of 13, children will go to the dragon academy to learn about how to train dragons, learn each of the common dragon's abilities and temperaments, and in the process find a dragon of their own to train.
On Hysteria, at the age of 10, the Viking in Trainings will also learn about dragons, but inversely, learn how their abilities work to avoid them, and find their weak spots when they attack.

STOKER CLASSDragons in the Stoker Class are said to be "fierce fire-breathers", and are known for their superiority complexes and attitudes. They never back down from a fight and don't like to be told what to do, and even if they are tamed and loyal to their trainers, they still have their own ways of doing things. The best way to gain their attention and loyalty is to give them respect, space, and leeway.
Goblingrinder :: A low profile, man-sized dragon with large hind legs. Adept jumpers and climbers, mostly grey with coloured tints depending on the individual. When flying they mostly stay to water and avoid great heights. Diet consists mostly of fish. Their breath has a wide variety between individuals, but cannot interchange abilites (for example a poison-spitting Goblingrinder cant suddenly start shooting fire), but they can choose how they breathe their substance. Fire doesn't burn as hot as other species. They often live in groups and give each other nicknames in the clans. Created by Beestabber
Monstruous Nightmare :: The Monstrous Nightmare dragon is the most aggressive and powerful of the dragons. It has a long snakelike neck and tail. If you clamp its mouth shut tight, it can't open its enormous jaws, much like a crocodile. They also have a habit of lighting themselves on fire. The locomotion of the Monstrous Nightmare is similar to that of pterosaurs. By unoffical Viking law, only the chief, or the son of the chief can own one. They are the first to arrive and the last to leave in a fight. One of their attack strategies is to coat there itself in their sticky gooey fire (Called the 'Fire Jacket'). The most common colours for a Monstrous nightmare are purple and scarlet. They were used for initiation tests for young Vikings before the Vikings befriended the dragons. Semi-rare.
Sabertoothed Dragon :: Sabers are relatively large dragons, often taller than a full grown man. Its coloration of greens, browns, and other earthy tones, but also black and white. They are furred to keep warm in the chilly climate that the Archipelago is infamous for, though their manes tend to get caught in the forest undergrowths. They are known for their namesake, a set of long, tusk-like canine teeth. Males have canines that protrude from their lower jaw as well as their upper jaw while females only have the more fang-like teeth. a certain agent in their saliva makes the fire have a greenish tint after it passes through the dragon’s mouth. This agent is also the very bacteria that causes a Saber’s saliva to be toxic, and if a bite wound from this dragon is not immediately cleaned, the bacteria will spread and the limb the bite had been on would likely have to be removed. Sabers are extremely possessive dragons, so if you happen to bond with one, don’t be surprised if it looks like it’s about to attack your friend or family member. They are omnivores, but when they eat their meat, they prefer it cooked to exactly the way they like it.Created by Sketchee
Terrible Terror :: The Terrible Terror is among the smallest of the small dragons, but also one of the most feared. They are roughly the size of a small cat, and can crawl into Viking homes, sheds, outhouses, and shacks and attack when their prey is least expecting. The only warning a Terrible Terror is near, is they create a hissing sound just before breathing fire. They come in any variety of colors. Common.
Western :: The Western dragon is typically depicted as a huge fire-breathing, scaly and horned lizard-like creature, with a pair of leathery bat-like wings, with four legs and a long muscular tail. A common and traditional dragon. Wyverns (two legs, two wings) and Knuckers (long body, small legs + vestigial wings) are a subspecies.
BOULDER CLASS
Boulder Class Dragons are noted by being being "tough" and the fact that they eat rocks to fuel their fire. Although these dragons are extremely powerful, their reputations are worse then their actual personalities. Beneath their rough exteriors they're extremely easy to swoon with something as simple as feeding them.
Gronckle :: The Gronckle is the ugliest dragon in the dragon world, but it more than makes up for its looks on the battlefield. Gronckles can launch a devastating fire attack, but they can't produce fire if their heads are wet. Gronckles can be slow, lazy, stupid and cranky. Because of their tremendous weight and small wings, it seems impossible for them to fly. The wings of a Gronckle beat extremely fast, a way similar to that of hummingbirds or bees. A Gronckle can fly backwards, sideways and even hover. They are also prone to dragon acne. When tamed, they are extremely loyal to their master. Very common.
Whispering Death :: The Whispering Death has a long neck, spiky face, and spirals of teeth around the entire inside of their mouth. It has a snake like body and has no legs. Many consider them to be extremely vicious and are often given nightmares after confronting this horror. They have gaping mouths full of deadly rotating teeth and they can also rotate their wings. They tend to dwell in underground tunnels that they burrow themselves, often resurfacing to attack any oncoming enemy/prey. Whispering Deaths are also able to breathe rings of fire.
FEAR CLASS
The Fear Class Dragons are noted for being "silent" and "sneaky" and love to turn up when people least expect them. Most of the dragons share the similar trait that they have more then one head that all have distinct personalities and thoughts. Theses dragons have a certain mechanic to them that makes them scientifically marveling and even thought they're terrifying, are breathtaking to watch.
Fell Beast :: The fell beasts are winged creatures with beak-like mouths and claws, similar to birds but much larger than any other flying beast. The creature possessed a naked body without feathers, a long neck, and a vast hide between its horned fingers. The colors are usually darker colors of brown, grey and Black. They could choose either to bite their prey (less attacking radius but increased damage) or swoop down on them (larger attacking radius), scattering enemies apart or outright crushing them. If a Fell beast snatched a victim, they could easily fly high into the air and drop their helpless victim to his death far below. Fell beasts were feared for their ferocity and speed. Fell Beasts could also breathe foul air on their opponents, weakening them significantly. The spread of Fear is prominent when seen, along with its gurgling roar. They are extremely dangerous and very unpredictable, even towards their masters. Created by Ethelwulf
Hideous Zippleback :: A dragon with two heads. They are sly and cunning, where one head breaths gas, and the other head creates an electric spark to light it. They are the master of ambush attacks. With two personalities, a Zippleback can 'stall out' when both heads do not agree with each other.
Snaptrapper :: The Snaptrapper is a dragon with four heads, with three jaws each. They work in a similar way to a venus flytrap, enticing Vikings into their maws by smelling of chocolate. They spit acid, and they enjoy wet weather.
[/blockquote]SHARP CLASS
As their title entails, Sharp Class dragons are noted for the sharp anatomy of their wings, tails, or overall body. Usually large in body stature, sharp class dragons could be a lot more intimidating like the Stoker Class, but instead spend most of their time preening, as they are extremely vain. They're the most elegant dragons and even though they seem standoffish, are loyal when shown favors.
Ambassador :: The Ambassador dragon is a Wyvern, with sharp, plate-like scales that work in a similar way to feathres. When angry or afraid, her whole body will puff up into a spiky hide that creates a defense. Her wings are also formed in a similar way, and since her forearms are her wings, Ambassadors can lash out with them, making her attacks almost a flurry of blades with but one strike. Their scales are always black; though they have an iridescent tint in sunlight that varies upon the individual. Their heads are bird-like with almost a mane of loose plate scales and horns. They can be extremely possessive of their masters and assert complete dominance over them. This also means a certain sort of loyalty, though not in a way a dragon trainer would like. Ambassadors migrate frequently, their instincts 'call' them to certain locations at any given time, and because of this they are few and far between. Created by Redkitebait
Deadly Nadder :: The Deadly Nadder one of the most beautiful species of dragon. Nadders are fast and dangerous, but it has a blind spot in the front of its nose where it's relatively safe. Even then the dragon's keen sense of smell lets it still be able to find it's prey. This dragon is known to be the most vain, constantly grooming itself, and trying to stay clean. They are the most temperamental of the dragons, and when provoked, can shoot spikes from their tail. Semi-common.
Hungarian Horntail :: These wyverns have earthy brown scales with lighter tone on the underside, over 20+ spikes can be found on it's head alone with a bronze and metallic shade. With bright yellow eyes which help it see in the darkness of even the blackest of caves. Over 50 feet long and 50 tall as well 5 foot wide. Males are black, females are the earthy brown. Can breathe fire up to 50 feet, uses it's wings as front paws when needed (as they have 1 claw on each wing), knows when it is be beaten(hardly ever unless they're bleeding out). Its spikes are also used to grip materials such as trees for their nest. However it has poor vision in the daylight, as it is a nocturnal dragon. Created by Stargaze
Longwing :: Longwings are dragons that are around 20 feet long with wings 40 feet long. They look tall but are really only double to triple a horses height. Whichever color they may be, seeing as the can really be any color, is the color they see more vividly. Their bodies and eyes also seem to take on the same color. You can tell what color the dragon is going to be even when it is still in its egg since their eggs match their color. Their flame is always orange/yellow, but if angry can turn blue or white. One long firestream can go on about 2 minutes. If they do puffs of fire they can average around 10 or 12. Most Longwings are aerodynamic while some are more aerodynamic than others. They have talons or spikes on their back, neck, and tail that are bone white. They have two serrated fangs that jut out of their upper jaw and onto their lower jaw slightly. Of course, they have super sharp teeth like almost all dragons. They also have four cheek spines, curved or slightly curved horns, and forehead spines between the horns. Males horns are longer than females horns. Females head are usually triangular while males heads are usually broader and blockier. These are extremely rare dragons, that are only found around the super high parts of all mountain tops. Rarely any viking likes venturing up that high which is where they live in peace.Created by Summer
Timberjack :: The Timberjack is a huge dragon, with an unrivalled wingspan. It is said it can cut down trees with it's tremendous wings like a guillotine. They do not have arms or legs. They can spit hot embers.
TIDAL CLASS
Tidal Class dragons reside in the oceans and are said to be able to outswim the fastest ship. The sea is apparently "full of dragons". The Tidal Class don't share similar body structures or attributes like the other categories, but they all do like to be reminded of water where ever they go, and thusly don't stray far from water.
Abyss :: A long, jet black dragon that mostly lives in the ocean, but do swim into rivers and lakes for breeding, or to find other sources of food via land. They are 25 feet long, nose to tail tip. They have a white stomach plates that reach from under its jaw to half way down the tail. It has strong arms, useful for swimming, with webbed claws. It does have the ability to walk onto land. Unable to fly, no wings. Abyss dragons are capable of shooting jets of water from their mouths. The streams of water are limited if out of water and using them. If out of water, they have a limited five shots, but in water, they have a unlimited shots due to the fact there is water all around them. Created by Storm
Aquaterris :: This Amphibious dragon likes to split their time between life in the water and life on land. They are approximately the same size as a Monstrous Nightmare, though their appearance differs greatly. Most noticeably, they are unable to fly, due to lack of wings. They have large paws with talons which are webbed between the toes to assist in the water. Coloring consists of Black with white and and one other color (Commonly green or blue) streaks across their body. When in the water, they open the large black flaps on either side of the tail reaching from halfway to the base and attaching there, functioning like sails or rudders when swimming. Their tail is also unique in that it works much like a monkey's tail with the ability to wrap around things to grasp and lift. They breathe red fire when on land and can spray boiling water when underwater. Created by Luna
Lakewing :: 14ft long from nose to tail tip, and stands at 8 feet tall when on all fours. He has medium length (4 inches long) serrated teeth for grabbing and holding onto prey, hooked razor sharp talons, four strong legs for its predominately swimming and running mode of movement, he also has two large wings for gliding with / aiding in water movement. These wings are around 10 feet long and average at 7 feet wide and are an inch thick overall. He has a light white dappled underbelly plates from his jaw to tip of tail, whereas the top areas of his body are a darker bluey green colour, also stretching from nose to tail tip. He also has 2 feet long slanted back white horns that point backwards, as well as six 1 foot long tail spines along his back, starting from his lower neck down to just above the start of his tail. The end of his tail is quite flat and spade shaped, for better control in the water, the overall qualities of his tail are that it is 6 feet long, quite thick and very strong (and can be used offensively if required). They can spray large accurate jets of an oily, flammable and highly toxic (depending on what he has recently eaten) liquid substance from his mouth, and are limited at around 8 ‘sprays’ commonly, underwater the shot limit is unknown. Created by Rosprey
Scalldron :: These dragons live exclusively underwater. They cannot fly, and are feeble when walking on land, but they make up for all this underwater, where they are strong swimmers. They have a round body that they fill up with water and heat to scalding temperatures, to shoot out as it's main weapon.
Thunder Drum :: Thunder Drums rely mostly on their strong wings to get about in the water. The Thunder Drum is capbable of emitting a sonic blast that can kill a man at close range. They have huge gaping mouths that could swallow a Viking whole. They tend to live in dark sea caves or tide pools.
MYSTERY CLASS
Even to Vikings, the mechanics of how they work or the reason behind their mannerisms are not known. The dragons in this class don't share similar characteristics besides that they're hard to figure out. Some are powerful and strong while others are weak and use their powers to avoid a fight.
Changewing :: The Changewing is a unique dragon, in which it sprays acid instead of breathing fire. It has the ability to blend into it's surroundings by changing the colour of it's skin. This makes the dragon's skin softer than other dragons. It also has a habit of mimicing other creatures it sees.
Boneknapper :: The Boneknapper is a species of dragon thought to be almost mythical by Vikings due to it's rare nature. As it's name may suggest, the Boneknapper spends it's time scouring the land for pieces of bone in order to create the perfect armor. Sometimes, this bone armour can be essential for the dragon to perform basic actions, such as roaring. The Boneknapper will often go to extreme lengths to find the bones it seeks, hunting down the fragments for years. However, the dragon does has a docile side to it's nature as well, as with most dragons around Berk.
Faerie Whisp :: With a wingspan ranging between 1-3 inches, the Faerie Whisp is one of the smallest of dragons. They come in every color imaginable. Their wings are delicate and vary in shape, though all closely resemble the wings of a butterfly in appearance. Also like a butterfly's wings, a Faerie Whisp's wings are covered in very small feathers rather than scales like most dragons. At the tip of their tail is a spot which becomes Bio-Luminescent at night. Instead of claws, they have pads which are slightly sticky from a fluid which forms on them, making it more easily possible to land and walk short distances. They spend most of their time flying. Faerie Whisps live in colonies ranging from 40-150 dragons per colony. Created by Luna
Smothering Smokesbreath :: A small blue-grey dragon around a similar size to the Terrible Terror. They cannot breath fire, instead breath smoke which they use to conceal themselves. They mostly live in packs, in which their collective concealment could be described by Vikings as a 'Fog Monster'. They like to hoard and collect metal to make nests to defend themselves from bigger dragons.
Vile Dreamfang :: It has a head like a cobra and a pair of large protuding fangs from it's jaws. They are serpentine in shape with large bat-like wings, and come in many colours and patterns that help them live in whatever environment they inhabit. They don't breathe fire, instead they exhale a thick smog that obscures the line of sight. It's two fangs produce a strong venom that dulls the senses interferes with motor cognitive skills and causes hallucinations but it is only lethal in very large doses. It can also infuse it's venom with the smog to cause mental suggestion and other symptoms when inhaled. It's wings are more designed for gliding than real flying, so it's wing beats are not powerful.Created by Reaperzx7
STRIKE CLASS
The Strike Class is noted by it's "blazing speed", "vice-like jaw grip", and "extreme intelligence". They also seem to be extremely introverted and secretive, mostly traveling alone once they reach maturity. Despite this, though they are the hardest to train, once they bond with someone, their loyalty is unbreakable.
Galewing :: They has a relatively small and sleek body compared to the size they are at the time, with limbs fit close to their bodies they have long and slim bodies, necks and tails, all making them more aerodynamic. Their wings are larger than the average for creatures their size and a very strong membrane covering the wing. Like Nightfuries, they use their tail to keep their balance while flying. They have a long muzzle with sharp serrated teeth. Instead of fire like traditional dragons, Galewings can 'spit' shards of deep blue ice crystal at their attackers. They only do this as a last resort though, as the attack drains a lot of the dragon's energy. Their most prominent weapons instead are their bite, and of course their wings, which they can create powerful gusts strong enough to knock even the strongest of Vikings to the floor. Their wings are what have given them their namesake, as their streamline form allows them to fly faster and higher than most other dragons, and are fully capable of all sorts of aerodynamic stunts. Recreated by Pime2.
Iridescent Ironbeak :: This dragon has iridescent scales that reflect the sun and keeps it's internal body temperature regular. They can also blind enemies if at the right angle from the reflection of the sun on the scales. Wings are less iridescent that it's body, often a pastel blue. Their most noticable features are it's huge cheek horns used for defense, and it's powerful beak jaw that can easily crush it's victims in one snap. Their forelimbs are mainly used for digging for insects, another food source. Their fire is weak, mostly used to stun foes. Usually, these dragons are neither hostile, nor completely calm. If given the choice to fight or run, these dragons will choose run, unless cornered. Being omnivores, competition for food between their kin is non-existant. Created by Crystal.
Skrill :: This elusive dragon has large wings, a spined back and tail and a large mouth. The spines on the Skrill's back and tail are sharp enough to cut with the slightest abrasion, and despite the holes in the Skrill's wings, it is an excellent flyer. They only appear during thunderstorms, and it's body will crackle with static electricity. They shoot bursts of white fire.
Sky-Richk :: This dragon is an Amphithere, with a pair of wings and no legs. The neck is long with hard scales and a Vulpine-like head. These dragons can have a range of facial and body horns, fins and beards; the most common one is two spiral horns on the head pointing backwards, and all Sky-Richk have long ears with scale padding going up to the tip. Their wings are double the length of its body as they need extra help to carry themselves on land. The Tail is extremely long and has a set of four claws; the tail is able dig into bark as the thorn-like claws can be dug into bark for grip, or be used as a weapon in fighting. The main colors are a dark brown with a bluish hue to the scales or a rusty red with a purple hue or a sky blue with a pinkish hue. They can make a spinning attack while plummeting to the ground (called dead drop attack), primary weapons is its wings and jaws, making them aggressive fighters. Can strike with spikes on it's tail when on land. It's fire however, is not as strong as it's other Strike-Class counterparts.

Night Fury :: Night Furies are large, sleek, black, have retractable teeth, and breathe blasts of blue fire which explode on impact. The Night Fury is the rarest species and the most intelligent. Unlike most dragon species, Night Furies have a short neck and lack horns of any kind. Before Hiccup knocked Toothless out of the air, none of the Vikings of the Hairy Hooligans had ever seen or fought a Night Fury. This is likely due to the Night Fury's dark color and blue fire (which offers less illumination but more heat), which makes it virtually impossible to see at night, which is when it attacks. They used to be known as 'the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself'. They are slightly more common in the wild, and only a few live in Berk, be it through reproduction with the wild population, or seeking one in the wild.
White Fear :: The White Fear is said to be related to the Night Fury. Its physical structure is remarkably similar, save for the lack of 'ear' flaps, and it has slightly longer legs. They White Fear's eyes are generally a deep, remarkable violet. This dragon is rarest in Northern regions, and more common in Southern regions. A White Fear's "Fire" is a rather direct, easily aimed bolt of ice breath rather than fire. These Dragons can be found inhabiting caves on the sides of mountains. They are hard to see flying during the day because their scales can take on a mirror-like appearance, refracting light. Created by Curtis
[/blockquote]
EARTHBOUND CLASS
The Earthbound Class contain dragons that do not have wings, thus they cannot fly. Instead, they make up for this loss by becoming powerful runners. They are most often than not dragons that possess fur on their bodies, a unique trait.
Celeris Draconis :: A mammalian dragon. They are wingless, and are covered in fur and skin instead of scales. Fur and skin is never the same colour, ranging from blues and earthy colours to rarer colours like red and grey. What they lack of wings they make up as excellent running dragons, with clawed feet that help grip the dirt to go faster. They can run up to 100 miles per hour, but as a result they tire *very* quickly. These dragons cannot make sounds except for screeches and hisses- instead, they use telepathy to communicate. Venomous. Created by Winter.
Phosphorclaw :: A small black dragon with a metallic sheen produced by its scales. As an eastern dragon its body is elongated and its two front limbs are located close to the head and its hind legs are located very close to the tail. It has no wings and therefore cannot fly. The Phosphorclaw can produce the effects of phosphorous powder and puffs of smoke. Unlike other dragons, the Phosphorclaw despises fish and prefers pork to eat. It also accepts rice and bread into its diet. In this area of the world they're rare but they are a bit more common in east asia, where they naturally live. Created by Jovic.
