DATE & TIME: A day before Ore Struck. CHARACTERS INVOLVED: Vikings-in-training PREVIOUS THREADS? None Chad walked into the arena he was trained in as a kid. Now he was privileged enough to train kids himself. One hand swung by his side loose, while the other balanced on the pummel of the sword he kept on his side for easy use. Not knowing how many kids were actually in the training program he started getting out multitudes of equipment. ”I swear. If only one kids shows up,” he shook his head to himself as he picked up a training dummy in one arm and a couple swords in the other, ”I don’t know what I would do.” He placed the items down and went to go get a couple of other things out.
Once everything was all set up he looked around. The sun was just overhead so he knew it was the middle of the day. Any minute now at least one kid should be coming. He whistled a small low whistle and smiled when Dagger came crawling down the side of the arena. The little Terror coiled up when he saw the swords, but once he passed them, he opened his wings and flew up onto Chad’s shoulders. The dragon curled around his neck so that the front half was on Chad’s right shoulder and the rear end was on his left. Chad patted the little dragon on the head and dug in his pocket.
”Now I know it was in here somewhere.” He said to himself as he rummaged through his pockets. He had checked all but his chest pocket and smiled when he felt the little bone that would call his BoneKnapper. He would need that for later if the class that he probably had behaved well. Hardly anyone knew of Nappy’s existence , and he planned to keep it that way for awhile at least.

After hearing that there was a dragon training class, Sindre leisurely made her way down to the impressive arena. Slowly, almost dreamily, she moved through the tall heather and admired the pretty midday view of the sea. Above her, in the slightly clouded sky, drifted Frostbite, who was riding the thermals lazily and waiting in boredom for Sindre to hurry up so some sort of action could begin. She crooned down to her rider in blatant monotony, who responded with a small smile. “No, I wont hurry up, and no, I don’t want to ride you want now,” she called up to the white dragon in response to the moaning.
The same knot of excitement made its way to Sindre as she slipped nimbly through the large, iron gates. It was then that she spotted her new teacher, who looked actually quite young and didn’t give the sense of a complete madman. So far so good, she thought, walking hesitantly up to him as he examined something in his chest pocket.
“Um…hello?” she started, smiling slightly at him as Frostbite dived from the cool air to the ground. The dragon eyed Chad suspiciously, judging him by his demeanour, his stance and anything else she could judge him by. Shifting her wings restlessly, she clawed at the ground and continued to stare at Chad in the most superior look she could muster.
As soon as Sindre saw the look Frostbite was giving Chad, she kicked her enough that she could at least feel it and hissed under her breath, "Be nice!", before straightening herself and smiling apologetically at her teacher. Frostbite gave a half-hearted mutinous glare, before glancing away.

When Chad heard someone start stepping into the stone arena he double checked everything then took on a calm normal expression. He was one of the calmer villagers. At least when he wasn’t around his little sister or friends that is. His hands went behind his back but he found that a little too awkward so he let them hang loose by his side. Instinctively though, his right hand sat on the pommel of his sword. Dagger, hearing someone too and not knowing what they were like, flew off his shoulders and went into a shadow where his grey/orange color wouldn’t be seen as easily. ”Um...hello?” He heard which came from a girl who looked around 14. He smiled a soft smile hoping not to scare her off. ”Hey. My names Chad and this...” He paused finding that the Terrible Terror had left his shoulders. He shook his head and shrugged as if saying never mind.
When he saw the way her dragon was looking at him, as if sizing him up, he lifted his chin a bit higher and gave a slightly cocky smile with a small chuckle. ”You’re not that scary little one. My dragons gigantic compared to you.” Not wanting to fight though, he stopped when the girl told her dragon to stop. At that moment, Dagger decided to fly out of hiding. The tiny dragon flew out from behind the shadows of Chad and landed in front of the white dragon. His orange eyes shifted as he looked at the dragon that was bigger than him by a lot. He snorted out a puff of smoke and flew back to Chad’s shoulders. ”This was the guy I was going to introduce earlier. His names Dagger. He’s fine with new people just be careful with his tail and wings. My little sister has pulled too often and too much on them.”
He looked at the girl wondering what she would start off best on. ”Before we get started I think I should know your names and your dragons. That way I don’t have to call you two students all the time.” He smiled another easy-going smile before talking again. ”Also, what weapons have you used before and which would you like to learn how to use?”

Ulrika was sitting atop one of her favourite places. It probably had to be the tallest pillar formation of rock nearest to the village below. Ulrika knew that the archway connecting the pillar to the cliffside would soon erode away and make this point inaccessible, so the little girl made sure to take advantage all she could. Closing her eyes, she felt the wind rustle through her hair, which she had decided to tie into two long pigtails at each side of her head. Opening her eyes again, a Nadder lazily flew past, not too far away. This clicked something in her mind.
Today was the first lesson of Dragon Training.
She was going to be late! She scrambled to her feet, running along the narrow pathway. The archway must have been a metre width at some places, with lots of slippery stones. If Ulrika slipped and fell, she would have fallen hundreds of metres towards the jagged rocks in the sea below. She made it, as she always did, and ran as fast as she could down the hill, through the forest, bounding over logs and stones with ease.
Ulrika was now back in the village, but the dragon training arena was at the other side. Today was a busy day - Ulrika zig-zagged through the crowds, occasionally bumping into people. Bursting through the crowd of people, it was a home straight to the dragon area, it was just in sight! She was going to make it!
Slamming open the iron gate, she was finally in. The clanging noise of the door would have probably drawn some attention to the late child. The noise was too loud for Ulrika though, and she quickly closed it, making sure not to make as much noise.
Descending the steps into the arena, face red and panting, she noticed there was already another Viking-in-Training, the Trainer and this wonderful white snake-like dragon (She couldn't see dagger right now). She had finally recovered from her sprint when she was in line in front of Chad. She recognised Sindre from around the town; but as usual, Ulrika's introverted nature prevented her from meeting up.
She finally noticed the Terrible Terror curled around Chad's shoulders. It was quite a pretty beast, with steel-coloured with vivid-orange wings and stripes. Mesmerised, she stood there absent-mindedly, staring at Dagger. Realising she was zoning out when she wasn't supposed to, she shook her head, blushing a little, before looking at all of them.
"Oops. Sorry I'm late."

As Chad launched into his introduction, Sindre smiled shyly again, saying her usual “Hello…”. He seemed nice: a care-free sort of person, which was fine by her. In fact, it was a much better result than the last time she had had a new teacher: the old lunatic had almost instantly swung out his axe and screeched at her to ‘get ready’. Instead of that, he subjected Frostbite to light teasing, which made her retract her sly, snake-like head retract in a mixture of shock, annoyance and amusement. Sindre grinned at her dragon in equal amusement as she, almost begrudgingly, relaxed a lot more.
When the handsome little Terror made his appearance, Sindre instantly stiffened and found her heart skip a beat. Instinctively, she took a step back from, what was to her, a beast that lived up to it’s name. After realising how irrational she was being in her fear of the small dragons, she managed to calm herself. “He seems nice,” she squeaked, biting her lip as Chad’s Terrible Terror landed in front of Frostbite. The Polar Serpent softly guided Sindre forwards a step with her coiled, white and teal hinted tail. She smiled silkily down at Dagger and blew a small, dark ash blue smoke ring at her fellow striking grey and orange dragon shortly before he flapped off to Chad’s shoulder, sniggering at him all the way. Sindre managed to relax a lot more and focused on what her teacher was saying.
“Oh, yeah, sorry,” she started, feeling stupid for not mentioning her name. “I’m Sindre and this over-grown reptile is Frostbite.” The Polar Serpent in question let out a snorting grumble and jabbed Sindre relatively softly with her glistening, ice-like forked tail tip. With her thick, brown fur body-warmer, she barely felt the sharp, icy jab at all. At the mention of weapons, she sighed softly. “Well…I’m good with the sword, but pretty much everything else is a disaster with me…”
It was at this moment that another fellow Viking-in-training burst in. Sindre twisted her head around, as if woken from a daze and focused on the younger girl. However much she racked her memory, she has absolutely no idea what her name was. Sure, she had seen her in town, but approaching her was way out of Sindre’s league. After the girl, who seems around thirteen to Sindre, had apologised for being late, she smiled shyly at her, and then switched her attention to Chad again. She tried in vain to keep Dagger out of her view, but the small fiery orange and grey Terror kept in her view.
Notes (in reply to Chad) : Ulrika's the only other Viking-in-training, I don't think theres any more :c

it's been five years and now I'm starting to doubt whether all my dreams are just aimless stares looking off to someplace that isn’t there
♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦
Chad turned his head slightly to look at Dagger. ”Yeah. He’s okay when he’s not being stubborn.” As if on cue, Dagger blew out a small stream of fire narrowly missing Chad’s face. Chad just inhaled sharply for a bit before squinting at the tiny dragon. ”Don’t make me bring out Nappy.” He said to Dagger who then lowered himself as if scared to death by the dragon that wouldn’t hurt him even if Dagger had hurt the big guy. When the girl introduced herself as Sindre and her Polar Serpent as Frostbite, he gave a curt nod. ”Nice name for a white dragon. Plus, the iciness they give off right?” When he heard her weapon of choice he smiled a wider grin and nodded. ”This will be way easier since I’m great with swords. I’m good with other weapons, but sword is definitely the top.”
When another girl ran up to Chad out of breath and saying sorry for being late Chad just gave a small chuckle. ”It’s fine. Since it’s the first day of course. Just try not to be late next time okay?” He cleared his throat before looking to both girls. ”Well. I know her name and her dragons name,” he said nodding towards Sindre and Frostbite, ”but what’s your name? And do you happen to have a dragon or have you not found/chosen one yet?” He paused enough for the girl to answer those two questions then continued on so that he could find her strong suit of weapon. ”Have you had experience with weapons before and if so what kind? And are there any kinds you would like to get to know?” He put on a thoughtful look for a second thinking that he forgot something. His hand that wasn’t on his pommel of his sword went to his pocket as he pulled out the small bone he kept there.
”Oh yeah. My names Chad and this is Dagger.” He said introducing himself to the girl that had arrived just arrived. With that done, he needed his larger dragon with him since he hadn’t seen it all day. ”Excuse me one second. This might hurt your dragons’ ears.” As if knowing what was going to happen Dagger put his front feet over his ears and bent down low. Chad blew into the bone that had a hole in it that created a sharp sound that humans couldn’t hear. A few moments later, the sounds of rustling bones was heard as Nappy, Chad’s huge dragon started flapping overhead. Chad waved Nappy down and of course the dragon obliged. When he got down, Chad threw Nappy the bone who allowed it to catch right where an empty spot was on his chest armor plate. The dragon shifted itself once before looking at the people and dragon it hadn’t seen before. ”This was the dragon that I was talking about early Sindre. Girls, I would like to introduce you two to Nappy. He’s the only BoneKnapper that I know of that is in Berk right now. They are extremely rare.”
He looked at the girls wondering if they already knew this or what their reaction would be. Since Nappy was behind him, Dagger flew from Chad’s shoulders to that or Nappy’s. Finding a comfortable place to lay down on the backbones of the dragon Dagger settled down and fell into a quick sleep. Feeling the small weight get off his shoulders, Chad leaned up against Nappy and patted the dragon once.

Being let off, Ulrika relaxed easy enough. The teacher asked for her name, and whether or not she had a dragon. "I'm Ulrika Weostan the Swift!" She said triumphantly, beating a hand to her chest proudly. But then she pouted, slumping her shoulders and kicking a pebble on the ground. "But I don't have a dragon... I'm not going to be kicked out, am I?" She pleaded. The teacher asked a couple more questions, and Ulrika's attitude shifted again, conversation turned to one of her prides.
"Of course! We're Vikings! You have to be living under a rock to not be dealing with weapons at least once in your life! My sister doesn't like fighting but she's dealt with weapons before!" Ulrika exclaimed. "I'm great with bows and melee weapons, but I prefer swords myself. Axes are just so overused right now."
With that, she approached the table strewn with weaponry, and picked up a sword which was just right for her size. She skillfully twirled the sword around her body without hitting herself like she used to when she was still practicing years ago. "Tadaa!"
When Chad introduced his dragon, she almost zoned out again, admiring the dragon. "He's so pretty!" She exclaimed. Chad then whistled into a strange whistle, and suddenly, this HUGE dragon appeared before them. Ulrika dropped the sword in shock, eyes and mouth wide in fear, awe and much more.
"WHOA!" Ulrika exclaimed suddenly, slightly belated. She was definitely awestruck by this dragon.
[OOC: I thought the dragon training arena had an iron dome cage on top of it? According to the film, anyway]

((I think it would have been taken down anyway to make dragon training easier, on top of that C: ))
The peppiness of Ulrika took Sindre by surprise. She had expected the girl to be quieter, which was irrational - she knew. But still, she had a habit of judging people based on practically nothing at all. But not having a dragon was even more surprising, pretty much every thirteen year old had a dragon now. Despite this, she simply looked at Ulrika in surprise but looked away as quickly as possible to avoid embarrassing her or anything like that.
Sindre grinned widely when Ulrika showed off her sword skills, clapping lightly after she’d done. "Nice!" she commented, examining the sword Ulrika held. She appreciated a good display of weapon-work, especially with swords. Swords were obviously the classiest of weapons: they were a cut above the rest. After, Sindre switched her attention to Chad and his fearsome, terrifying Terrible Terror. She zoned out slightly after that, spotting a beige Gronckle flap lazily in the distance. The sudden start of Frostbite woke her from this short daze. The Polar Serpent had lay down due to the monotony of the lesson’s events, and had been dreamily sunning herself when a sharp, high-pitched sound had awoken her from her doze. She jumped to her feet in surprise, grumbling in annoyance and almost knocking Sindre over.
And then, with a small clatter of bones, the magnificent Boneknapper glided in. Sindre’s mouth fell open: it was huge. She barely heard Chad say that this was the dragon he was talking about earlier and simply mumbled, “Oh right….wow….” She had never seen a Boneknapper before, and had only heard of them through legends. Frostbite examined Chad’s dragon with indifference, dusty blue smoke drifting from her nostrils and sitting down like an overgrown cat and gazing at Nappy almost slyly.

Ulrika nodded over-exitedly. She always got into scuffles with other kids, defending her family pride, defending herself or just a scuffle of no reason. It was always playfighting though - only fists were used, and the loser would always give in before they got seriously hurt.
It was hard to concentrate on Chad, with this beautiful dragon with an armour of bones taking up a large part of the arena. She got the jist of what she had to do - try to hit Chad without actually hitting him. Ulrika frowned a little. Her fancy swordwork hadn't actually been put into real practice.
"Raaagggh!" She cried. Her young female voice didn't really spark any fearsome reaction, that was certain, but it didn't stop her from rushing Chad. Running with the sword low and out the way, but close enough for her to raise it in defense, she aimed for his side, obviously not wanting to kill her teacher on the first day. She attempted to thrust the pointy object between Chad's arm and his side.
Ulrika had made the first move, she wondered what Sindre would do. Would she attack from behind? Come by her side? Or use her dragon to 'obliterate' the 'enemy'?
[OOC: I doubt that Ulrika will succeed, but I'm leaving what happens blank because that'd be kind of powerplaying XD
And ok, I guess it'll work for the cage no longer being needed. But toothless only made a small hole in the frame, not destroying the whole thing XD Besides, if they try and capture a wild dragon for attempted taming, then it'll easily escape if theres no bars. Thats just my rant anywwho]

Sindre continued to watch the two dragons’ interactions in awe, but managed to drag her eyes back to Chad for his impressive display of sword skills. “I fought my brother a few times,” Sindre replied to Chad’s question, grimacing slightly when she mentioned her brother. “But he’s useless with swords, so none of them were ever real fights…and learning isn’t so bad.” She continued with a chuckle as she walked up to the weapons table, admiring the array of shining swords, axes and everything else she could think of. However, Sindre was limited to the swords due to the fact that she would probably kill somebody if she tried with anything else. After picking a long, bronze-handled sword, she shuffled back to the small group and listened to Chad.
It suddenly seemed like a good idea she hadn’t experimented with any other weapons, due to Chad’s idea of the game. As soon as her teacher explained the rules, Sindre started to figure out some strategies in her head. Approaching it simply seemed to be a good idea, but could distracting Chad work? One person could distract while the other attacked…but somehow that didn’t seem to be a good idea. Attacking at the same time? Could work out, but would leave both Sindre and Ulrika venerable for attack. Hmm, she thought, completely zoned out of real life and imaging what could go wrong with each strategy. Maybe one of us could attack from behind and the other from the front? Or is that counted as cowardly?
It was then that Ulrika sprinted forwards, screeching a battle cry which was admittedly quite small. “Oh well,” Sindre whispered under her breath as she took a quick detour around Chad and Ulrika, keeping as quiet and stealthy as possible. Hopefully her teacher was suitably distracted by the other Viking-in-training, who was now lunging for his arm. Moments later, Sindre also lunged forwards; swinging her sword down towards Chad’s other shoulder, hoping it would work.

This is what Asther said when I PMed her about the Arena: glaciers melting in the - - - * * DEAD OF NIGHT[/sup] Chad looked down at this kids. When he heard Sindre talk, he turned to her. ” I fought my brother a few times, but he’s useless with swords, so none of them were ever real fights…and learning isn’t so bad.” He nodded and smiled as she turned towards the table to get a weapon. When he saw her choice of weaponry, he nodded and smiled again. ”Not a bad choice at all there.” Just as he was about to say ‘Let’s get this started’, he heard Ulrika start coming at him. " Raaagggh!" He flipped his sword off of his shoulder and was able to step to the side, just in time to catch her sword and stop it at the handle. ”First rule. Don’t make sounds when you want to strike. The person will then be ready for you. Always be silent, like Sindre is.”
Chad smirked before grabbing a dagger out of the scabbard that held his sword. ”Second rule, always be prepared.” He said as he stopped her sword before he could touch her. But the way he stopped the both of them made him vulnerable. He was wondering if they could catch onto it. He had one hand, holding the dagger, trapped against his shoulder. The other hand was stuck with his blade being stuck in Ulrika’s sword. One of the kids would have to move off in order for him to get out. But that was the funniest part about this. You never knew what the other was thinking. He looked over at Nappy and gave a small smile. He blinked once, in which case Nappy got up and went over to Frostbite.
”Sindre, want your dragon to get in some practice too?” He said as he moved to the side just enough to look her in the face and motion towards his dragon walking over to hers. Dagger flew from Nappy’s shoulders onto a table nearby. He sat and watched the sticky situation Chad was in.

Ulrika jutted out her bottom lip in a frown when Chad easily blocked the hit. She had attacked spontaneously too - she admitted painfully to herself that the wimpy battle cry was sort of a giveaway. She watched Sindre sneak up behind, obviously doing better than Ulrika, but she took got blocked.
Chad made a notion about Sindre's dragons, and heard the rattle of bones as Nappy shifted it's weight. But Ulrika wouldn't dare look away - she learnt that far too well. She kept her focus on Chad's face, hoping to read some infathomable sign of what the next move was.
Oh how she wished for a dragon! If she had a dragon now, she'd make it swoop down and take Chad away, either torching him in mid-air or make him fall to his doom on the jagged rocks that dotted the coastline. Not seriously though, of course! Killing a fellow villager was a punishable offence, by death or by exile, and Ulrika didn't want that, not in practice or reality.
In a sort of stalemate, Ulrika felt she had to do something. Fuelled by Viking brawn, and with both of Chad's arms occupied, she attempted to give a left hook with her free hand, aiming directly for Chad's face. But Chad was much taller than this little thirteen-year old, so she sort of had to half-jump for the fist to reach it's target. This time she gave no cry - she'd entered in battle now, there was no longer any point to scream anyway, especially after the correction.

Sighing slightly at the defeat of both of them, Sindre bit tongue lightly and thought upon her next move, and Chad’s tips. It was true, she really hadn’t been prepared for a counter-attack, and now things were getting more interesting. She saw that Chad was vulnerable now, but it wouldn’t be easy to get to him despite this. She was twisted in an awkward position from the swing of her sword, and already her legs were aching slightly. She could withdraw her sword and aim for the other shoulder and just hope that Ulrika would stand her ground, or just kick his ankles if she was desperate. Sindre’s moves were pretty limited, but Chad’s were even more so: she had all the time she needed (until she fell over from her twisted position that was).
There was a possible way out when Chad asked whether Frostbite could get some practice in. The white dragon perked up slightly at that and looked over with more interest, glancing at Nappy and Dagger warily before focusing on the small group of Vikings. “Does that mean she can join in? Or will she be doing something else with Nappy and Dagger?” she asked, glancing over Chad’s shoulder to the three dragons. Frostbite would change things if she was allowed to participate in the small fight, but so would Nappy and Dagger.
It was at that point that Ulrika decided to jump up and give Chad a left hooker, so Sindre took the opportunity to swing her sword back and bring it down on his shoulder again, at a different angle to her last downward swing. Please work, she thought hopefully, her blade aimed towards the back of Chad’s shoulder. Distracting the opponent was always a good idea…
