DATE & TIME : 13/07, Morning. WEATHER CONDITIONS : Clear CHARACTERS INVOLVED : Pickle Manface The Grim The Third With An Eyepatch PREVIOUS THREADS ? N/A
It had been a while now, but Pickle Manface had finally come to terms with the loss of his eye. Though he had a truthful namesake now, the phrase 'Be careful what you wish for' had frequently come to mind. But then again, some villagers believed he already only had one eye anyway.
After several weeks of urging, he finally felt confident enough to go out and return to training - Trolley was definitely itching for a brawl. Today would be the day.
"RAAAAAGGGGGGHHHH" Pickle shouted as the crack of light seeping through the shutters hit his eye, making him sit upright and shake a fist at the morning light. As usual. He proceeded to get up for the day. He would go train today. He grinned a little, though it was hidden by his overload of facial hair.
Finally leaving his home, Trolley appeared eager, though it was hard to tell through his permanent blank expression. He did seem perkier than usual though. Pickle gave the dragon a forceful thump on his thick hide. "C'mon yer lazy sausage, lets go." He grumbled, heading towards the arena.
Finally arriving, he was pleased it wasn't currently in use. Some of the cage doors rattled with unhappy misbehaving dragons, but that made him smirk. Pickle didn't like dragons. He turned around to face his opponent.
"Yer ready? I need t' get used't this new way of seein'." He announced. He worked often with an eye patch, so he hoped his performance wouldn't be as bad. He didn't have an eye anymore under the accessory. Trolley grunted, and began to charge his wings, ready to charge. Pickle let out a battlecry, and charged forwards in sync with his Gronckle.
They both smacked into each other in a sickening crunch. Stalemate.

Grima couldn’t sleep. He’d come home the normal time (just as the light appeared in the sky) but he kept waking up not long after nodding off. He was finally called out of bed at the normal time having had less than two hours worth of sleep and got dressed.
He got out of the house as fast as he could, he’d get though a ‘bit’ of training to get him a bit more tired, then he’d skulk off to where Stahl and Flint was and try and sleep in that dark cave. He got to the training arena, hoping no one was in there so he could just go straight away. Unfortunately there was someone. Pickle.
While Grima considered just going straight to his dragon and hope the walk would do it, he decided he would go ahead anyway. He might as well see how well he could fight against Ulrika’s crush. He did find it funny that she fancied someone like him (while failing to notice the irony of him fancying her sister).
He walked out into the arena and said loudly, “Hey, Manface. Want to have a fight?” he was genuinely curious how well he would actually do, and how Ulrika would react if he thrashed him.

Pickle could feel the beast trying to get a better advantage over him. Pickle growled. He wasn't going to give in! He was going to win on his first day of training since the war! He headbutted Trolley between the nostrils with his helmet (That still had half a horn missing), before grabbing onto the Gronckle's two huge canines, swinging him around until he threw the dragon into the wall of the arena. Trolley dropped to the ground, no longer flying. He seemed unfazed though. As usual.
Pickle turned as he heard echoing footsteps in the gateway that lead into the arena. It was a Viking-In-Training, that Pickle didn't really know or care enough about to know. He huffed. How dare he interrupt his session?
His opinion quickly changed as Grima challenged him. He grinned. The boy had guts. He liked that. He advanced, sizing up the boy. He was a lot shorter than himself, and less muscle. He frowned.
"Ye cannae be serious?" Pickle said, half serious, half trying not to laugh. He grabbed Grima's elbow, shaking his arm with some force. "Ye call this muscle boy? Can ye even lift a hammer?"
He had an idea. "'Ere, if ye can beat Trolley, ye can fight me." He turned to Trolley, who was just lying there. "YET UP YE LAZY USELESS LUMMOX" He yelled. Trolley got to his short feet and waddled over, his eyes no longer enthusiastic.
"Ye gotta beat Trolley ter fight me. Righ'?" He stood back, meaty arms folding. He wondered how he would do. "FIGHT!
Trolley rolled his eyes. He couldn't be bothered anymore.

Redathin had gotten up at his usual time. Early, before anyone else was up. He felt that he acted strangely around others in the morning so he spent each morning on delivery routes, hiking, or sword practice.
Today was starting no different than other days. Got up, dressed, ate, grabbed his sword and out the door. He started toward the arena. It had been some time since he had been there to practicing his techniques. As he got closer he though he heard a commotion. He looked around trying to locate the source and soon found it to be coming from the arena. Redathin ran up to the small cage and looked down only to find Pickle yelling something in he couldn't understand and Grima preparing to fight Trolley. "Well this can only end poorly," Redathin muttered to himself. He slipped under the bars and dropped into the arena. He ran up to Grima and Trolley and raised his arms between them."HEY, What do you think you're doing? Pickle, you know better then to put these two together in a fight. It's just damn poor judgement. I know I'm no viking, but I know enough about dragons to tell you how this could end." Redathin stood there, arms crossed waiting for a response.

The Viking smiled when Grima challenged him and started to walk to him. The smile disappeared when he looked at the boy properly. He pulled his arm out of the Viking after he shook it, “Of course I can! You don’t need arms as wide as your head to use weapons!”
When the Viking called up the gronkle He had a flutter of fear, Trolley was a pretty formidable beast when he wanted to be. When he looked at the dragon though his fear disappeared. Trolley didn’t want to fight right now, but dutifully lumbered up.
“Fine by me,” I said to him, staring straight at the dragon, “I know you don’t want to fight me,” he whispered in dragonese “just go down on the first hit and I’ll be out of your scales!”[/i] As they were about to charge each other in what would be a pants and short fight, a young man ran into the field and jumped in front of the two of us.
I sighed as he reprimanded Pickle, “You obviously don’t know anything about Trolley here then!” I called out to him, “And you’re from berk, of course you’re a bloody Viking!”
Grima sighed, this guy would probably be just as against him fighting Pickle too, shame. He then had an idea. Grima pulled out his sword and pointed it at Redathin, “Okay, if you think this fight is so stupid, how about I fight you instead?”

"Sure."[/i][/color] Trolley replied simply, as he did. He was such a tiny human compared to Pickle. Part of him didn't want to bulldoze the boy into smithereens if he fought full out. Also he wanted something decent to fight with, like his Viking Warrior.
Just as Pickle had called to fight, another scrawny Viking came into the arena, coming to stand between Grima and Trolley. Pickle grimaced. How rude! He was about to burst into outrage at his action when Grima spoke first. He nodded gruffly about Trolley. He then shook a meaty fist menacigly to the second comment. "Agreed!" He bellowed.
The Grima challenged the messenger boy instead. Pickle's expression lit up. He laughed, smacking Grima's back rather forcefully, not realising his strength, especially after only just wrestling with a rather large Gronckle. "THA'S MORE LIKE IT BOY!" He roared heartily. "Y'see? Tha's more like the kind of opponent ye should be fightin'!" He then pushed the Viking-In-Training forwards, once again rather strongly, towards Redathin.
Pickle decided to move further back to watch the boys fight. He thought it would be pretty funny to see how two weaklings (in his opinion) would do against each other. Trolley, a little disatisfied that they weren't going to be fighting much at all today, grumbled and collapsed to the floor, deciding to sleep. Pickle rested his weight on the dragon and folded his arms.
This should be fun.

Pickle's word poked Redathin like needles. More evenly matched, he thought. Redathin wasn't sure wether he was being insulted for Grima's sake or because Pickle looked down upon him for being a simple messenger. Redathin knew he was more than that. He had practiced every day for a long time to be where he was. This was the perfect time to show Pickle he was just as good as a viking. What about Grima? How could this damage him? Redathin quickly wiped these thoughts away. If Grima has any chance at being a viking he needs to be able to accept failure. He still thought about declining, but then he saw something in Grima's eyes. A fire burning, like he wanted to fight more than anything. Redathin knew he couldn't decline, but Redathin still secretly wished that Pickle had just called off the chellenge in the first place. Redathin pulled a leather gauntlet onto his left hand and he unsheathed his sword. "Well if it's your goal to fight me then I won't take that from you,"Redathin said smiling. He Held his sword horizontally toward Grima and took a defensive stance. "But realize, I won't hold back and I don't expect you to either." Redathin said challengingly.

Grima smiled slightly as the adult accepted, “You think I was expecting Pickle to go easy on me?” he swung at him, pretending to aim at his left side, but then twisted it so that it went for his right side. And Redathin blocked it fine. That took Grima back as the guy jumped back, he hadn’t expected it to work, but he’d expected at least him to have only just blocked it in time.
As the guy jumped back and we both circled each other he called Grima reckless and said my pride was making me do this. It was technically true, since he had decided to interrupt his challenge. “You’d be surprised how much recklessness pays off.” He then asked if I’d thought about it, the correct answer was not, but it was the wrong time of day to do something like that.
He did another faint; this time to the legs, then went for the chest. Again the guy blocked it, this time with his hand. Later, once he’d had a few hours sleep, he would think about how cool that kind of gauntlet really was and would put it on his list of things to have when he’s older, but at this point he was more annoyed by the fact the guy had caught his sword, making him technecly unarmed.
I let go of the sword, ducked down just in case he went for me and kicked upwards in the balls. No matter how good this guy’s reactions were he wouldn’t be able to react to that in time…mainly because it was so underhanded he wouldn’t expect it.

Both Pickle and Trolley yawned in synchronisation; though for two different reasons. Where Trolley yawned because he was settling down for a nap, Pickle yawned because he was finding the fight that unfurled in front of him quite boring. Pickle wasn't the sort of Viking that enjoyed finesse and tactic. Though he knew it could be important, and said factors had resulted in the loss of an eye, the Viking was still determined by the classic Viking fighting style - stick an axe in them before they even have a chance to retaliate.
He face palmed when Redathin grabbed the sword with his hand. Gauntletted or not, Pickle found the idea preposterous. There could be a chance that it wouldn't function correctly, and then that would be one less limb for the opponent to worry about.
His brief musing almost made him miss something a little bit more exciting - Grima's underhand attack to Redathin's groin. Pickle's eyebrows raised in suprise, not expecting it after all these feints and boring jabs and blocks. He began to laugh. Loudly.
"HAHAHA! Tha's more like it!" He bellowed. He was going to be rooting for Grima now. "Tha's more like how ye're supposed ter be fightin'!"

Redathin grabbed Grima's sword with his gauntlet in hopes of ending the fight early. This couldn't have been more of a mistake. Usually his fights were clean, with people that held a strong idea of honor. Here this was not the case. Redathin noticed the attack to his groin only too late.
Pain flashed through his head. He fell on all fours and coughed. When he managed to gain a little control of himself back he stood shakily. "That's dirty, you... may be... smarter than... you look..." He gasped and shook his head. "But I'm not going down to an attack like that." Redathin tossed Grima his sword. "Well...Let's have at it!"
Redathin took his defensive stance and breathed deeply. He felt a sense of calm come over him, which meant he had an advantage. This guy isn't going to play nice, which means I'm on super defense until I find his weakness.
Grima charged Redathin swinging his sword from the right. Redathin ducked under the blade and kicked Grima in the back. "Do you think that you're special because your a Viking Warrior? Do you think you're above everyone?" Redathin threw taunts at Grima hoping to shake him so he could end the fight.
Grima glared, either he was offended or he was trying to be fierce, neither of which bothered Redathin. He just hoped the taunting would make Grima an easier opponent. One thing was certain for them, they were more evenly matched than they first thought.

Grima smiled as his foe fell to the floor coughing, served him right for taking his weapon. The guy shakily stood up and gave him a spiked compliment before threw him back his sword. He hadn’t quite expected to have had it given back, but it did tell him one thing that he would definitely use to his advantage. This guy didn’t like to fight unfairly.
“Fine,” Grima muttered before charging at him again. I swung at him, to which he this time ducked. He’d swung harder than he’d meant to because he then was unprotected enough that he was kicked in the back. Grima staggered sideways, only just keeping his balance.
The glare he sent at Redathin was for the kick, not for what he’d said. What he’d said turned the glare into a look of confusion. “No,” I muttered as he heard Pickle’s equal confusion, “Why would I think being a Viking would make me special when I'm on an island of Vikings?”
As it turned out he’d said that to distract Grima because as he said that he charged. What Redathin hadn’t realised was that Grima was used to fighting with Ulrika and the others, and we all talked to each other to try and distract each other. He blocked the attack and whispered, “I haven’t,” before kicking him in the shins.

The kick knocked Redathin back. He struggled to maintain balance and nearly fell back. 'Dammit, I'm going to have to fight dirty if I'm going to beat this guy. I should have the advantage of skill... I need to get his sword away from him.' Redathin locked blades with Grima and glared at him angrily, then slowly forced him back before shoving him off. Grima stuttered then aimed a faint at Redathin's legs. Redathin hopped back to avoid the attack then took a defensive position. 'He keeps going for my legs. I'd better be defensive if I don't want to end up losing something.' Grima swiped at Redathin's legs again. Redathin planted his sword in a crack to stop the attack entirely. Grima yanked the sword out of the crack and threw it away from both of them. Redathin leaped back several times. 'My plan backfired on me. Come on what do I do...' Redathin reached down and unsheathed his long ankle knife. 'Time to go on offense.' He held the dagger offhanded toward Grima and leaned forward. "Looks like things just got interesting." Grima made a snide remark about Redathin's misfortune. "You're not going to win... I promise that."

It didn’t work. Redathin stood his ground then shoved Grima back, who staggered a few steps before doing another faint at the man’s legs. This time he did a double faint, meaning his final attack at his legs. Grima smiled when he stabbed the sword into the ground to block the attack.
The Viking in training pushed the man back and grabbed the sword before throwing it away. Anyone who does something that stupid doesn’t deserve to use his sword. He was about to throw his own sword away when his opponent pulled out a dagger. “Aww, if you hadn't of done that I'd have dropped my sword and then we'd be even...but I don't have a knife so I guess I'll stick with this.”
The last part was a lie of course, he always had his knife on him, but he was not fighting with a knife. He preferred bare fist over all, so he’d have loved to have done a fist on fist with the guy. But no. He smiled at the man’s comment, “If you say so, but how you drop your knife I drop the sword? I’m not going to fight a guy with a knife unarmed but I don’t think I should be using a sword against you.”

"If you really want to drop weapons then drop on three." Redathin paused, the next few moments would determine the outcome of the battle. "One... Two..." Redathin readied himself, "THREE!" Redathin dropped his knife and hopped back, taking a defensive stance. Grima dropped his sword and ran at Redathin. Grima punched at Redathin's stomach.
Redathin stepped aside and tried to backhand Grima. Grima expected the attack and blocked it, then he tried to punch Redathin again. Redathin caught his fist and yanked him to the side. Grima tried to elbow Redathin's chin, but Redathin tilted his head and avoided most of the attack.
"Come on! You can be quicker than that," Redathin taunted. What Redathin didn't realize was that Grima was in the perfect position for a choke hold. Grima wrapped his arm around Redathin's neck and tried to trip him. In desperation Redathin threw himself backward and he landed on Grima.
The two struggled to get the advantage over the other, but eventually they seperate and roll away from each other. They both stood shakily, but Redathin quickly regained his balance. Grima on the otherhand looked slightly off. "Hey, are you okay?" Redathin felt genuinely concerned. He hoped he hadn't seriously hurt Grima.

Grima watched as his opponent counted them down; Grima lowered the sword to the ground as he did it. The moment Redathin stopped counting and dropped his dagger Grima let go of his sword and charged at him. He went to punch him but Redathin dodged again. Grima recognised the movement and wasn’t going to let this guy pull it on him again. He stopped himself and blocked the backhand.
Grima went to punch him again, but his opponent blocked him and pulled him by his fist. Using the arm he had to block, Grima elbowed up at Redathin’s chin, who tilted his head so he missed. As Redathin taunted Grima he wrapped his arm around Redathin’s neck and tried to wrap leg round leg. It was all getting a tad arduous, and Grima started to regret coming here for the fight. He should have just walked straight to Stahl and Flint.
Redathin caught him off guard and the older man sent them both to the ground, with Grima on the bottom. Grima groaned as the full weight of the man landed on top of the teenager, but he tried to keep hold of Redathin and move them so he was on top. It didn’t work though and eventually the two separated.
Grima went to get up, but he found it hard to keep his eyes focused, he knew he was too tired right now. He should pull out of the fight. Redathin then asked if he was alright. Grima looked at him and refocused his eyes on the messenger. He was far too proud to give in, even if he knew he really shouldn’t.
“yeah, just fine,” he said as he went to send another punch.
