I'm going in a radically new direction with this. The Smokebreath turns out to be too small after all. The original application can be found directly under this new one, in the same post.
SPECIES NAME: Goblingrinder (Gnomegrabber?)
APPEARANCE: While I'm not exactly an artist, this simple outline should give some idea of what these things look like (body shape used copies from an open source image created by someone called Nobu Tamura).
The Goblingrinder looks a bit like a cross between a crocodile and either a dinosaur or a kangaroo, whatever you had on you. Its hind legs are clearly bigger than the front ones, and carry most of its weight. The main wings are located just in front of the hind legs, to lift the creature as close as possible to its center of gravity. A set of smaller "head canards" are used a lot like the tails of some other species. Including tail they are usually less than 3 meters/10 foot long, with their wingspan staying under 4 meters/13 foot. The standard color is dark gray, but each individual will have a bit of a "shine" of a particular color over at least part of its skin, patterns differ wildly. The color used is related to the breath abilities of the dragons. But more on that later.
CLASS: Stoker, probably, as they don't have much of the prime characteristics of the other classes.
ABILITIES: These dragons are mobile on the ground. Their center of gravity is close to the hind legs, meaning it can use its front legs for spectacular turning. Four legs and a pretty low profile also give them the ability to do some mean climbing, they can do this on almost any surface. They're quite jumpy creatures in general. Their flight is energy efficient, but they're bad at gaining altitude. They often glide close to water, where their flight is at its most efficient but which does open them up to attacks from below if they aren't careful, or dive into the water from higher up. Yes, they eat a lot of fish. The molecules mentioned in the appearance section are used for their breath ability. Some substances will burn with a large gas explosion, others burn slowly and stick to their target. On top of that, they usually have other properties. The substances Goblingrinders produce are often a mixture of several similar substances. They cannot control exactly which substances they spit out, the mixture is always the same. They do however have a lot of control over how much they spit, whether it becomes a single spitball, a stream or a cloud of droplets etc.
DRAWBACKS: These dragons are relatively small and weak, roughly person sized. They can not gain altitude anywhere near quick when flying, and often resort to physical climbing or looking for upwards air currents to use instead (indeed, like the Gargoyles). Their breath abilities differ, every dragon can breath fire, but when they choose not to light their breath the effects can vary a lot. Brown Goblingrinder are known to spit a substance that induces a small degree of temporary madness in almost all species of dragons, humans and animals. The fire moestly doesn't burn very hot compared to the metal melting fire beams some other dragons project, but the dragon can choose how to spit is (concentrated beam, wider cloud etc).
OTHER INFORMATION: They usually live in groups, ranging in size from just a few to several dozen. It's common for these groups to have a wide variety of breath abilities and colors amongst them. Their name comes from legends that these small creatures would be used by gnomes, goblins and others of the fair folk. Used by some parents to scare children into being nice, or a dragon might sneak into their bedroom and take them to the underground realm. Strangely enough, there were even stories about fairytale creatures riding them long before people started riding dragons themselves, these stories are usually about earth bound riding though, similar to the use of horses.
RARE?: They may be slightly less common in this part of the world, but it still shouldn't be too hard to find a group.

The chemical Dodger produces doesn't burn too hot, but can make for quite an effective display, when spat out and ignited as a cloud of droplets. The substance has mind altering properties, driving people, dragons and animals hit with the non-lighted substance temporarily crazy. The effect differs with how large and mentally stable the victim was to begin with.
Sharp teeth. Like humans, they have several different ones, so they can cut as well as grind.
Really quick on his feet.
A good climber on almost any surface (especially wood and rock).
Can squeeze itself through quite small gaps, due to its slender body.

Fire breath as hot as that of much bigger dragons, but very short ranged (whitish yellow, yellow and orange around the edges). Functions as a natural welder and cutting torch. Shot limit 5 (for regular high power shots useful for welding, cutting and attack, like other dragons he can control how strong and how long he blasts).
Smoke breath, effective quite quickly. In any but the most wind still environments the effect is quite local though, as the smoke cloud gets blown apart around the edges.
Strong bite. Not the sharpest teeth ever, but it gives a good grip on things.
Much quicker on his feet than he looks to be.
A good climber on almost any surface (especially wood and rock).
Can fit (or well, squeeze) quite easily trough gaps maybe 40 by 40 cm/1.5 by 1.5 foot.
An agile flier. Can outpace many larger dragons over short distances, although ones those are up to pace they'll usually have a higher cruising speed.[/div][/td][/tr]

[cs=2] [style=text-align: center; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 16px; border-bottom: solid 2px #222222; margin-bottom: 4px; text-transform: center;]FULL NAME Goblingrinders live in groups, this has two effects: there are often a large number of proud aunts and uncles around to help give children a name as cute and embarrassing as possible, and there are lots of other youngsters to help correct that mistake. Nicknames are incredibly common, and often used more than ones given at birth. Dodger was good at dodging falling rocks, dodging mad mother birds whose eggs they stole and dodging the metaphorical bullet (or, well, you get the idea) when someone gets close to finding out about things. And yes, these young dragons think they're giving each other really cool and inspired names. ORIGINS Dodger is a young male, about 230 years judging by the official scale posted elsewhere on this forum. He was raised in a pretty large colony, a few dozen individuals or so. This colony was located on a large rocky peninsula they called the Screaming Rock, as a harsh northern wind that brought on the worst of winter would often make a howling or even screaming noise going past a large rocky peak located a bit to the northeast of their lair. Many other peninsulas and (often smaller) islands were nearby. This place was located in the southern regions of the Land of the White Cliffs, where the humans paddle their small boats through the treacherous waterways below the glaciers, knowing every nook and cranny of them, fishing and hunting. Like the vikings, some of these humans have discovered the art of dragon taming, but they use it sparsely, as tame dragons can't always hunt for themselves, not while also doing work for the humans, and eat a lot. Water dragons like the Thunderdrum seem to be most popular, as they have a good sense of where the fish is, and a natural instinct in how not to disturb them before the trap slams shut. The tribes that trek further inland in the spring can often be seen with several species of hairy earthbound dragons, that work alongside their loyal dogs. [atrb=valign,top][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,207] STRENGTHS: Equally at home in the day and the night Good at escaping, disappearing and getting away Good at gliding, silently and close to water Bold | [atrb=valign,top][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,207] WEAKNESSES: Small and weak for a dragon Not very hot fire Can lift a human teenager for a short time, and could even have a person sit on his back near its hind legs, but actually riding him? You'd have to be a goblin Disregard of danger |
[atrb=valign,top][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,207] LIKES: Varied food, loves the fruit, meat etc that grow in this part of the world, still likes fish a lot though. Outrunning, -climbing or -smarting others Adventure Friendly faces, although you can't always tell | [atrb=valign,top][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,207] DISLIKES: Arrogant larger dragons (no really, this is his single strongest dislike) Getting touched on his belly, you can only do this when he really trusts you. Getting caught Being treated as cute (mild annoyance). The specific scent of horses, ponies, donkeys etc, not because of some memories or something, it just smells bad to him |

Goblingrinders are pretty intelligent, and rather annoying as well as dangerous in large groups, but they also venture off alone or in smaller groups, and generally behave more timid in those settings. Dodger does not do timid. He is a young male, and you know the type, because like more young men of many species Dodger is taking risks and thinking nothing of it. Like a feral dog without a group he boldly forages in villages and aggressively stands up to much larger dragons. His agility and small size have saved him more than a few times.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
In addition to the species information above, Dodgers shine is brown. The brownish gray covers most of him, while the underside of his tail, body and head are a more neutral grey. His eyes are orange, though not too bright.[/td][/tr]

That picture and the icon (update: middle icon) (a cropped version of the same thing) are of course from the series. Bandit came from a different group, and is darker and somewhat less blue in coloring. His eyes are a somewhat dim non-fluorescent orange. He also looks a bit more scaly. His wings are pretty typical, the "spikes" along his back (upright) and tail (horizontal) look a bit smaller than usual, compared to his size.
Update: edited the image to give a better idea of the colors:
Also updated the icon, left the old one standing in the middle.
Bandit is quite large for a Smokebreath, about 1.3 meters/4.5 foot long without tail (about 4 meters/13.5 foot with tail) and a wingspan of over 3 meters/10 foot.
Update: based on the model from wild skies a Smokebreath with a 3 meter wingspan would have about a 1 meter body length and a total length of 3.3 meters. I'm sticking with my original estimates, even if I have to play it as a special whitecliffian race.
