DATE & TIME : August 5th, Just after dusk WEATHER CONDITIONS : Warm with a cool breeze CHARACTERS INVOLVED : Jovic and Little Wildfire, Sylvus PREVIOUS THREADS ? N/A A young, lean doe carefully walked through the forest, keeping its weight off of one leg. Constantly it turned its head left and right, ears always perked up and swiveling to listen for danger. It had broken its leg and now infection had set in. Its tiny herd had left it not long ago, and now it was alone. The poor animal was a perfect target for the various predators that roamed this dark forest of pines.
Sylvus was one such predator. She had stayed in her cool cave during the day with nothing to do. It was too warm outside right now, and her thick fur sucked in the heat and made it stay there. It was uncomfortable to hunt during the day, and so now she prowled the forest, looking for some poor animal that would fall prey to her claws. After taking a short moment to sniff at the air, she found the scent of the weak deer and headed off in its direction, grateful that she was downwind of it, and it upwind of her.
It was not long before the Kopie came upon the injured animal, her paws silent on the forest floor as she slid forward, tail parallel to the ground. It would be an easy kill. She would be able to eat her fill too, since there weren’t other dragons around to scavenge from from her catch. The dragon crouched, her muscles coiling like springs before she leaped at the deer, landing with her claws catching its back, taking it down. Before it could cry out, she killed it and settled down to eat. (I’ll spare you those details…)
After filling her belly, Sylvus pushed what was left of the deer away and bowed her head to lick her paws clean. Her ears constantly twitched, just as the deer’s had not long ago, although Sylvus was a bit more confident that she would not become prey anytime soon.

Jovic hadn't been comfortable in the village and was even less comfortable leeching off of their food supply, which they were seemingly open with. He was out to rectify this, hunt and provide his own food as he was so used to. Little Wildfire had less of an issue sharing in the comfort and cuisine of Berk and thus remained. Jovic had been tracking a deer for some time, it was slowing down. It wouldn't have been a difficult kill for the seasoned survivalist, if he had even gotten the chance.
He lost his breath momentarily as a dark figure descended from the sky, seizing what he thought was to be his dinner. He braced against the far side of a tree, pacing his breaths back to normal as to not give away his position. He knew that not all dragons were tame and that was the distinct feeling he got about this one. He peeked around the corner and saw the dragon finishing its meal. Jovic had no intention of challenging a dragon and would normally have left then and there, but he felt as though danger loomed too close. He knew not whether it was himself that was in danger, though that was his assumption.
Underneath the dangerous exterior of the dragon that deprived him of his meal was something majestic, a confusing realization he had as he tentatively approached the beast. Danger so close, why am I moving towards the recently hungry (and perhaps still hungry) dragon?
He decided his gut told him he needed an ally and spoke softly when close enough (a good sign, he thought, considering the beast must have noticed him at least by scent already which means it wasn't immediately hostile). "Hello, majestic creature. Clean kill and glad you got to enjoy it. I am a stranger to these parts and was out hunting, are there any local dangers I should be aware of?" He spoke as a traveler who had struck up these conversations passing people on roads, but he had never had this conversation with a dragon before. If his gut was right, it would be an experience he'd long remember.

Sylvus ran her tongue over her muzzle for a moment, then turned her head back to start grooming under her wings. She froze after a moment, nostrils flaring and ears perking as much as possible when she caught the scent of...A human?
Now, this human scent was very different from the usual...She was sure this wasn't one of those rough and tumble, stout creatures that lived in those wooden, pointy boxes and rode other dragons that had been somehow bowed by the smaller, less threatening beings. This scent carried with it a hint of Eastern winds and carried a stench of fear on him.
Sylvus lifted her head, turning her head slightly, a growl bubbling in her throat. This human was a new threat...She'd never met anything like it before, and as he emerged from the trees, her fierce, blue eyes narrowed. He didn't look like one of the natives either.
But he spoke her language...Literally...The Kopie's muscles tensed a little bit as she prepared to stand up...Just in case. She let out an almost mocking snort sound as he called her 'majestic'. "Flattery will get you nowhere, human." She started. "Well...Perhaps with the more...Ignorant of my brethren, but as for me, you will not." She said, correcting herself for the less intelligent dragons running about.
"As for your question...I'd warn you to be more careful when wandering these forests. I can see you have no weapons and so I will not harm you...But you would not be so lucky with any other dragon." The dragon told him. She'd slid her icy blue gaze along his person as she'd been speaking, just to make sure he really didn't have any weapons...And as far as she could see, he didn't...This particular human did not look as capable of snapping a dragon's neck with his bare hands as a Viking either...So she was not worried.

Knowing dragons well enough, Jovic could tell the dragon didn't figure he posed a threat, this was good news considering he didn't want any trouble. Hopefully, for the two of them, he wouldn't have to prove a threat to gain her respect. He even went as far as to take off his hat and pack, which would serve to his advantage soon, little did he know.
"I meant no offense, nor did I mean to upset you after what must have been a rather satisfying meal. I just sense danger, don't you?" He figured dragons had heightened senses, for the most part, but failed to consider that maybe they don't have.. hunches the way humans do. In truth, from what he had seen in his short time in Berk, he could take most dragons one-on-one, most native ones. Of course this didn't include the Night Fury and some of the more rare breeds, but there was one fairly common one that slipped his mind at the moment. What was it?
A large silhouette raced first across the sky and then got larger on its approach, directly behind the feathered dragon he was speaking to. A monstrous nightmare! "Look out!" He barely had time to exclaim before having to roll to the side, dodging the dragons claws. Jovic looked down at the ground where he landed from his roll, having braced himself. He looked up with his eyes slightly revealing a burning rage that fueled his fight. He was as ready as he could be.

Sylvus watched the human for a moment as he removed his head covering and the odd pack of things he carried on his back. She tilted her head slightly. Humans were weird...Wearing those strips of cloth on their bodies, those pieces of metal on their heads. Not to mention they were so soft and...Pink...
The dragon's fur ruffled slightly as the human mentioned something about danger, and her muscles tensed a bit more. Was he saying he was a danger or...Maybe he knew about something that was going to happen? Maybe he'd planned some ambush with the Vikings? Her senses were on high alert in that moment, which was fortunate, since she darted out of the way as the Nightmare swooped down and nearly flayed them. She landed in some bushes, and once it was clear, she stood and padded out again, baring her teeth with a growl in her throat.
There was another dragon in her territory, and while she usually didn't mind such a presence, this one had attacked her outright. There was no way she was letting the Nightmare go without a few warning scars. The Kopie bounded out, leaping over the human and going after the Nightmare.

This confrontation was about to take place in the sky. This did not suit Jovic. He needed to find a way to either board the Nightmare or disable its wings. Since he had no weapons and wouldn't use them if any were available, his only option was to get onto the Nightmare. It seemed from the angle at which it descended that Jovic was its true target, perhaps because he seemed easier pickings for a meal than a dragon. If this was the case, then all Jovic needed to do was get high enough where the dragon could see while having a strong enough footing to launch a strong jump.
He found a near tree as the feathered dragon came out from some bushes, taking off after the Nightmare which had already turned about for another pass. It'd get one more shot at Jovic before the other dragon could do much to the Nightmare. Jovic, in all his planning, wasn't expecting the Nightmare's tactic. As it closed to just out of range for the solid jump Jovic planned, it opened its mouth and released a gout of flame directly at Jovic. If his plan was to work the only way he could dodge was up.
Taking in as deep of a breath as he could manage while staring into the oncoming flame he leapt into the air in a corkscrewing somersault that maximized his air time and would ideally turn him so that he was facing the same direction the dragon was. The heat from the fire played at cooking Jovic's skin, but was just out of range for any real damage to occur. He held out his right arm, having figured by the dragon's approach and the way he jumped it'd appear out of the flames on that side. A blunt force hit his back and he was lifted into the air, caught by the Nightmare's wing. He braced it with his right arm over and his left arm under, it'd be significantly more difficult to fly with a fully grown human weighing down a wing. He forgot where he wanted this plan to go until he was nearing the ground with the danger of a dragon falling on top of him.

(Uff...Sorry for the delay...)
Sylvus growled a little bit as the Nightmare turned and headed back, clearly after they human. Was there anyway she was just going to back down from this? The chances were very slim...The dragon turned tail, then used a tree to vault herself into the air, quickly catching herself with her wings and gliding around the opposing dragon in an arc. This was much faster than running, and by the time the Nightmare had begun an awkward dive, she was on the ground at its point of impact.
This seemed like a stupid move at first...Why stand in the way of a big flying lizard as it was about to crash to earth? Sylvus reared on her hind legs, planning to catch the dragon just before it hit the ground and fling it back into a tree. Of course, she would do this in such a way that the human wouldn't be wounded terribly...He'd probably get out of it with a few bruises, but that was all.
Sylvus wasn't sure whether she liked the human or not. He seemed decent enough to at least let live, but she wasn't taking any other chances with him. If she so much as caught a threatening vibe from him, she'd be out of there in a moment. She wasn't about to start trusting him, finding it better and safer to let him show her that he meant no harm, truthfully and fully, before she even thought about relaxing around him.
