ORIGINS Early in the summer by the hut closest to the shore, the sound of a screaming baby can be heard even by the farthest away hut. It was in this hut that Opal Lockheart was born. Named for her love of her mothers opal necklace later on. Her father liked to joke that her name had almost been 'Scream McGee' due to all the crying. Opal's father, Fenris, was a famed viking in his small village, but only when he was on a boat. He was a water warrior, he could throw a spear like no man else. Once he got on land... Its like he has reverse sea legs. He has land legs. Standing on rock and earth was hard for him, he would stumble around, knock into people. When his crew got him drunk he would be able to walk on land much easier. It was rumored for a long time that Opal's mother was a mermaid, because she vanished quickly after giving birth to the small girl. Leaving only a few choice items behind that hinted that she was even there. Others just say the woman went 'home.' Fenris had taken her from her home far away and brought her to his home village to give birth to his daughter. Soon afterwards, one of the attending girls watched as she walked into the ocean and never surfaced. This lady was also a bit of a drunk so her words weren't taken seriously. Opal was raised on a large ship akin to something like a pirate ship. Her father, being a viking at heart, hated the large ship but understood the purpose of the ship. Opal swam in the ocean, ate in the gallery, swabbed the deck, and traveled the world on that ship. She was trained with foreign weapons, but her father made sure that she was trained the viking way. With a sword and shield, but unlike her father and his viking ways... She didn't have the arms for holding up heavy swords or shields. She could hold a dagger and swing that around but when it came to really fighting someone it was safe to say that Opal would lose. Unless she was in the water. It was in the water, swimming, where she felt most at ease. She was untouchable in the water, something about being in water just... Made Opal's confidence and courage soar and some people say that courage is half of battle. Her father was proud of his little fishy daughter, who could throw daggers from the water and hit a target on the other side of the ship. On land, she was just about as useful as her father. However, it wasn't long before Opal started to show some more womanly features and thus gaining the eye of most of the men on the ship. Fenris had to make a hard call. He docked at a small village, Berk, and contacted someone he feared most in the world. His sister, Opal's aunt, Paint. Paint was a artist in the small village and was widely known for her great paintings of battles that she herself attended riding on the back of her husbands dragon, slinging spears. She was a pure viking, not like her brother. She viewed her brother riding around on that the large bulky ship as a sign of weakness and him tainting his own blood. So, when he managed to get on shore, taking his 17 year old daughter with him as well, and met with her in her hut in the center of Berk, she was a bit shocked. Daughter and father looked sick, standing on solid ground... It was a quite a sight! Fenris begged Paint to take his daughter, while she wasn't too good when it came to fighting on land he hoped that Paint could teach Opal to fight a little bit better. Perhaps even paint like Paint. Opal fought against her father on, begged to go with him, but he left in the dead of night when Opal was thrashing in her sleep. She went to the dock everyday, in hopes of seeing her fathers ship... Opal wasn't completely lost without her father, but she didn't adapt too well to the landlife. Opal would sneak out at night to swim in the lake with the waterfall, or in the ocean. People who see her swim at night often mistake her for a siren, and thus has earned the nickname Red Siren. Training during the day with her Aunt proved difficult, but Opal believes if she trains hard enough her father will come back and take her on the ship. GENDER & SEXUALITY Opal is a bi curious female, but leans more towards straight. OCCUPATION As of right now, Opal has only spent a month among true vikings. A viking in training. She is often called a Pirate as a form of insult thanks to being raised on a boat, but she fights against being called a pirate and tries to be more viking like. She resides with Paint, and is training under her, but its not... going very well. It is highly embarrassing that she is so old, and still a ViK. TRAITS [/style]

Opal finds herself 'lacking' in most interpersonal chats. Finding a reason to keep talking to someone after getting her questions answered. She misses some social cues as well, sometimes it just feels like when people talk to her they aren't really talking to her.
Because of a slight social awkwardness she tends to stick to her own, seeking out people won't happen unless she really needs someone. Her seeking out real companionship doesn't happen too often, but when it does happen... Opal has proven to be loyal friend, even if she is a bit of an air head on land. Since her father has left her on Berk, Opal has taken to stare off into the distance at the ocean. Getting her to talk isn't hard, if you start up a conversation about the water, boats, ships, anything related to the ocean and you are sure to get her talking.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Opal stands at about 5 feet, weighs around 118 pounds and has some of the deepest blue eyes you will ever see on another human being. Her red hair, when dry, is pretty wavy. It puffs up around her face in almost like a afro. Her hair happens to be a point of great misery for herself. When wet, and 90% of the time you see her, her hair will be wet, it will be straight and from a distance almost have a bounce to it. She tends to keep it tied back in a tight bun if she has to walk around with dry hair. She walks with a bit of a swagger, as if she's not used to the dry land.

▪ Cutlass Sword - Its basically a short sword with a bit more of a long edge and a fancy handle to it. It was one of the strange weapons her father let her be trained to use.
▪ Throwing Daggers - Her best weapon. She keeps daggers hidden in the folds of her clothes and in other places. Its safe to say she has at least ONE dagger on her at all times.

FIGHTING STYLE:

▪ When on land, Opal was trained to fight in close quarters. A ship is a terrible place to have a huge blown out fight, its best to knock the enemy down and take them out. Its considered honorable to fight one on one, and Opal has always followed this rule. Often making her blind if someone else comes into the fight.
▪ In the water, there are no rules. Opal can move twice as fast and thus that is her main point of fighting. Stay out of the other mans hands, and when the choice arises, hack and slash at his ankles, or chuck a dagger onto someone on the ship above. Don't worry if you see Opal jump overboard into the water. Its her domain.
