LIKES
Embla likes flying at ridiculously high altitudes, just for the Vertigo of it. She's been called a nut, but she also loves the absolute adrenaline rush of falling! Apart from almost killing herself, Embla likes drinking games, mostly with the men of the village, and likes to gamble.
DISLIKES
Embla hates being stuck on the ground; and on that note, she hates being on boats. She would much rather fly anywhere she needs to go; why would she want to ride there in a sea-sick inducing boat? She also hates fish, with the exception of sharks. And vegetables make her sick, she wouldn't eat anything green if her life depended on it! (Though she is known to eat the occational turtle.)
STRENGTHS
Embla is extremly gifted in battle-tactics and arial attacks. She just has a knack for deciphering an enemy armies weak-point. And along with that comes her natural sense of responsibility and leadership, though that stops at the Mead Hall, if you catch my drift! She also seems to have a way with numbers, a skill not many Vikings posses. She seldom gets a chance to use her mathimatical talents, but they're there none-the-less. And finally, Embla has an affinity for drinking. Though she does have her breaking point, she can stomach immense amounts of alcohol and still keep (most) of her wits about her.
WEAKNESSES
Like every Viking, Embla has her weaknesses. She's deathly afraid of the dark, just can't seem to get over that one! She's also allergic to pollen, which ails her every spring and summer, making her eyes water and making her very stuffy and sneezy. Also, she's not an avid reader, can barely sputter out a sentence or two before cursing at the book and throwing it across the room! And, if it's not apparent from her intolerance of reading, she is not patient enough ever to learn how to read! Or do anything that takes even an ounce of patience.
FEARS
As stated above, Embla is afraid of the dark, to such an extent that she can't walk home if it gets too late and she's stuck at the Mead Hall! She's also afraid of drowning, which is partly why she can't stand boats! Embla is partially afraid of sharp things like swords and knives, and this is why she has a hammer. Lastly, Embla is petrified of dogs! Can't stand the brutes, they scare her out of her mind!
AMBITIONS
One of Embla's greatest ambitions is to fly so high, she can touch the sun. She has no idea if that's even possible, but she tries at it every day! She also wants to conquer her fear of the dark, and wants to discover how snow falls. Finally, Embla wants to get married. Yes, the biggest tom-boy in Berk wants to fall in love and get married!
SECRETS
Embla has never told anyone this, but she's secretly afraid that she'll get kidnapped one day. For reasons described in History, she's afraid one day someone will kidnapp her, and this is why she's become such a tomboy and surrounds herself with big, burly Viking men. She's also got another secret: she's a fantastic singer! It's a very girly talent, she knows, and she doesn't let anyone know about it, but she has a voice that would rival sky larks!
PERSONALITY
If you meet a regular Viking man and then meet Embla, you would not be able to tell the difference between them, personality wise. Embla is a tom-boy to the extreme, hanging out with guys, drinking like a guy, acting idiotically and recklessly like a guy. She's got no self control when it comes to alcohol, and she's dangerously careless.
Embla is as flighty as the breeze. She acts very impulsivly, and does things completely on a whim. She never thinks things through, and genuinly does not care if something is dangerous. She likes to gamble exessivly, but is a pretty lucky person, and as a result, has kept a tidy sum of money from her bad habit.
But underneith her hard and dirty exterior, Embla is a pretty nice person, and unlike her male counterparts, really does care about other people's feelings. She's generous, when not surrounded by guys, and loves to laugh. She's a loud girl, and a clumsy one, but really, Embla's just a friendly person.
OVERALL PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Embla has a heart-shaped face, with a slightly boxy jaw, and slightly buck-teeth. Her smile is wide and her lips are fairly plump. Her eyes are light-green and almond shaped, while her skin is a light-olive color. Her hair is dark brown with red undertones, and hangs just below her shoulder-blades.
Embla has wide shoulders and while she is thin, kept fit from training and running around with her friends, she isn't a twig. She's actually rather thick, but she's very proportionate, and just because she's thick does NOT mean she's fat! Wide hips and slightly chunky thighs are nothing to a woman who puts more worth on what you can do with your body than what it looks like. She's a rather well-endowed woman, but she wouldn't notice. All in all, she probably weighs around 155 pounds.
Long legs and sturdy knees and ankles keep her up, and all together she stands at 5 feet 9 inches tall. Her feet are actually rather small, and she has the hands of a pixie. But that doesn't bother her one bit.
For the most part, Embla dresses rather commonly. Her blue shirt is her favorite, cross-belted with a leather harness, always ready for a spur-of-the-moment flight. Brown pants adorn her legs, and regular brown boots on her feet. She has a Viking horned helmet, but she doesn't wear it often, as she's constantly losing it. She doesn't wear jewelry, but has plenty of it, won in gambling games from her friend's wives and girlfriends.
HISTORY
Embla has not had an easy life. If you stand her next to her friends, you'll notice straight off the olive tint to her skin, setting her apart from her fair-haired comrades. That is because Embla is the child of a Thrall and the Thrall's master. Her mother, Amica, was captured when the Vikings of Berk made a raid on a Roman trading ship, on it's way to the Lava Lout's Island. Presented to Storkard the Strong, Embla's Father, Amica was doomed to Thralldom for life. Storkard had a wife, but he and Amica soon fell in love, and while Viking law did not permit divorce, or marrage to Romans, Amica and Storkard could never be together. But then, one chilling winter night, Amica was dilivered of a baby girl, who had the exact nose of Storkard.
Storkard, completely embarrassed and shamed by the whole ordeal, sold Amica and baby Embla to another man in the village, Rolland Ramhead. Rolland was not married, and although he never fell in love with Amica, he had pity for the young mother and her half-bred baby. He released Embla from Thralldom, and raised her with Amica like a daughter. He sent her to dragon training at the appropriate age, and was elated when she graduated, a full-fledged Viking!
Now, between her birth and her graduation, things did not run smoothly. Several attempts were made by the Romans throughout Embla's life to take back Amica, who, it turned out, was the wife of a high-ranked general. When the general discovered of Embla's existance, he was furious at Amica, and began trying to capture Embla. Once when she was ten, she was kidnapped in the middle of the night by the general and his men, and had to be rescued by Rolland and the other Vikings. Ever since, Embla has had a great fear of the dark and of being Kidnapped.
When Embla was put into Viking training, she met a truly unique dragon. It was on a voyage into a sea-cage to find the sorce of mysterious rumblings. Embla was practicaly hyperventalating from fear, when she felt a tap on her shoulder. Looking up, a tiny, luminescent face smiled down at her. Amazed at this glowing creature, she asked her mentor what it was, and was informed that is was a glow-worm, and a rather big one at that! It was about the length of her arm, and was like a green, glowing snake. Naming the creature Bjorken, he never left her side again.
When she was fifteen and half-way done with her Viking training, Embla ran into some trouble. She loved Bjorken like a brother, or more like a baby, but she was painfully aware that she was missing out on alot of her training because she could not fly with Bjorken! She was deeply concerned about this, as she could not think of anything worse than having to abandon Bjorken for a bigger dragon. But one day, while practicng her hammer-throw in the woods surrounding Berk, she chucked her hammer through a thicket, and when it hit something, she heard a growl. Going to investigate, she found that she'd hit a young Nadder. It wasn't a particularly agressive nadder, and let Embla bandage up the wing she'd hurt when she'd hit the dragon, and after about a week of checking up on the nadder, one day, Embla found that it had up and dissapeared.
Embla was devistated, as she'd come to really like that Nadder, but it wasn't long 'till they met again. On a summer night, the Outcasts were raiding the village, and when Embla hd run into the fray, she'd been knocked down and there stood an Outcast, poised with an axe in hand, ready to bring the weapon down an Embla's head. Not having enough time to dodge, and Bjorken trapped under the Outcast's boot, Embla shut her eyes and prepaired to die. But death never came; the outcast was bit n the head with the talons of a very familiar-looking Nadder.
After the battle was won, Embla was reunited with the Nadder, whom she named Jeksa. Now, many students started complaining that Embla now had TWO dragons, but Jeksa wasn't really Embla's. That pesky Nadder was always running off, and didn't really stay too long in one place, ever. Bjorken called Jeksa a floozy, as Jeksa would buddy-buddy up to just about any Viking, but Embla was the only Viking Jeksa ever let ride her. And that was all Embla needed.
