PERSONALITY:
Crowfoot is a strict, no-nonsense kind of teacher. He is quite meticulous and has no problem criticizing every student individually on every mistake they make, no matter how small. He’s very frank when stating his opinion and treats it as a fact. He is firm when it comes to his rules of dragon training and does not encourage open mindedness nor is willing to listen to a new idea. He’s rather stubborn and will not admit himself wrong unless proven so. He has a bit of a short fuse and is not past yelling at his students or anyone. Despite that, he does have an honorable side to him and cannot stand injustice.
At first glance, Crowfoot seems just like any Hooligan Viking within Berk. However, something about him stands out from the rest. He acts almost detached around other Vikings and tends to disagree a lot with their way of life, calling it unpractical and wasteful for whatever reasons. One who has ever known a Hysterian or lived in their land may be able to make a connection with Crowfoot’s attitude and beliefs, but he makes sure no one ever does.
He’s a little less headstrong than most Vikings and prefers to analyze the situation and plan a route of attack before making a move. He’s not very social and is pretty bad at small talk. If the right buttons are pushed, an awkward side of him can be discovered and is probably the only time he will ever stammer. Though he doesn’t outwardly show it, he has a strong compassion for what he does and all of his apprentices and especially his dragons.
OVERALL PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Physically, not much about Crowfoot stands out from the typical Viking. He is tall and large and heavily muscled. Still, he is somewhat smaller than most of the Vikings of Berk but can definitely make up for the lack of brute strength in strategic planning.
For clothing, he rarely ever wears casual outfits and always looks ready for war. He wears a chainlink vest covered at the shoulders with spiked caps. His kilt is made of dark shaggy fur almost reaching down to his large and heavy boots. Around his waist is a thick belt with holsters fit to carry almost any kind of weapon.
He has an unusually long amount of hair on his head for a Viking and ties it at the end in a ponytail. He had a hollywoodian styled beard and mustache with the beard extending neatly over his chest. All of his hair is completely black along with his thick eyebrows.
HISTORY:
Crowfoot was born in Hysteria and lived much like the Hysterians for many years. He grew up with his father and older brother, both of which were typical Hysterians with aggressive and violent personalities. His brother often wrestled with Crowfoot and would go too far, giving the boy bruises that would last for weeks. But he was convinced by his brother that getting hurt would only make him a better and stronger Hysterian, so he never complained. He was violent and cruel and dreamed of killing all the dragons in the world. He had no remorse for any of the creatures the Hysterians killed, even for sport. He would chase around cats and throw rocks at birds and step on any and every insect he spotted.
Only when he was 13 did the real fun begin. His father and brother were going to take him on a sport hunting trip. They armed him with his first very own weapon, a morning star that he could barely lift. Then they set off into the forest. For a while Crowfoot was left to simply watch his father and brother as they skillfully took down animals and dragons. Finally they decided to let him try and found a medium-sized sleeping dragon for him to target. He charged at it and beat it with his morning star until he couldn’t anymore. That was the first time he had even killed a dragon.
For years after, he accompanied his father and brother to hunt dragons and was fleshing out to be quite a competent Hysterian. Killing dragons was his thrill in life and he loved nothing more than making them bleed. When he was 21, he and a large group of Hysterians left the village to tackle a newly discovered nest of dragons deep within the forest. They had no idea what species of dragons resided inside but felt no fear as they approached. They spotted two baby Monstrous Nightmares playing at the entrance of the deep cave and charged mercilessly. By the time the parents came out, they had managed to kill one of the babies. Enraged, the parents attacked the hunters with all their strength and a terrible battle ensued.
It ended with one of the parents dead and almost all of the Hysterians burnt to a crisp. Crowfoot had seen his brother and father fall to their fury and stared on helplessly as the last dragon faced the last surviving Hysterian of the hunting group. He felt fear toward a dragon for the first time and dropped his weapon, only able to wait for its lava-like flame as it slowly approached him. Then it stopped and stared at him, growling quietly. It was in that instant when their eyes met that Crowfoot saw something. The dragon’s eyes were full of anger, but also sorrow and pain. Crowfoot’s fear subsided and suddenly he was overwhelmed with a feeling of regret and sympathy. As if seeing this, the dragon gave one last mournful roar before turning from him to fetch its baby and taking off in the sky.
Even as Crowfoot returned to the village, marked a hero for being the only survivor, he never forgot the dragon. The sorrow in its eyes was like nothing he had ever seen. He didn’t even feel that sad for the loss of his father and brother. Such emotion was something Hysterian’s looked down upon; saw as weak and pointless. Suddenly Crowfoot didn’t want to be like that anymore. He didn’t want to be an emotionless shell that couldn’t even mourn for the loss of his family. He didn’t want to drown his feelings in aggression and anger. He wanted to feel happiness and sorrow and guilt. He didn’t want to kill dragons anymore or take out his rage in violence.
Crowfoot left not even after his wounds had healed completely. He stole a small boat and cast away into the great ocean to search blindly for a better land. Even if he died out there, it was better than dying within that village of cold hatred and aggression. Finally he reached land and came upon a new village. Berk. He had heard stories about this place and the Hooligans living within. They had befriended dragons and lived a life of puniness—so said the Hysterians. This was where Crowfoot wanted to be.
He knew if they knew he was a Hysterian they would never allow him to stay, so he disguised himself as a wandering merchant for a while with the few supplies he had brought and eventually bought himself a house. As the years passed, the people of Berk began to see Crowfoot as one of their own, no longer questioning his ambiguous past. When he was 25 he was appointed as the new dragon training teacher after the last had retired and has yet to graduate a whole class on his own.
He chose a Gronckle as his main demonstrations dragon and had found Rock, a Terrible Terror, wandering his front step like a hungry puppy. After feeding it, the little thing never left his side, following him like a shadow unless the presence of food beckoned her elsewhere. Though still growing accustom to Berk’s way of living, Crowfoot is certainly happier now and slowly adapting to using emotions other than anger and hatred. Regardless, he still prefers some of the Hysterian’s customs over Berk’s and tends to try and convince some Hooligans to do certain things differently while still keeping his origins a secret.
PARENTS, FRIENDS, OTHER FAMILY:
-Father (deceased)
-Older brother (deceased)
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Morning star
DRAGON NAME: Rock
DRAGON TYPE: Terrible Terror
DRAGON PERSONALITY:
Rock is Crowfoot’s personal dragon and therefore acts more like a pampered pet than a battleready dragon. She’s very spoiled and will act affectionate toward anyone just for a treat. She’s very obedient to Crowfoot, however, and will listen to his every word. She doesn’t take scolding well and will often give puppy-dog eyes to get away with doing something bad.
DRAGON TECHNIQUES: While she can fly and shoot fire, she rarely does and really isn’t trained for fighting. Instead, she is most useful at small tasks like delivering a message or retrieving something.
DRAGON NAME: Cave
DRAGON TYPE: Gronckle
DRAGON PERSONALITY:
Cave is the dragon Crowfoot uses most for demonstrations during training. Therefore, he is obedient and well trained. While not used for battle as much as typical Viking’s dragon, he is powerful and headstrong. He is a typical Gronckle, though, and sleeps most of the day and hates being woken up. He also loves to eat and enjoys chewing on rocks over teaching students with Crowfoot.
DRAGON TECHNIQUES: With a lot of training, Crowfoot managed to teach Cave to be able to fire eight shots over six in a row. He’s very good at maneuvering and can change directions in flight in an instant, as well as fly in place. However, he is also very slow and tires easily.
