PERSONALITY
Vigdis is a serious, no-nonsense kind of Viking, as well as surprisingly smart for someone her age. As she comes from a long line of Viking warriors and dragon riders, her elders all expect great things from her, and she works hard not to disappoint them. She is a hard worker, patient and determined, and would much rather take matters into her own hands than leave them to someone else. She is also very responsible and dutiful, qualities appreciated by her elders, but not so much by her peers.
While Vigdis could easily rattle off the statistics of every dragon currently in the village, and she and her dragon get along like a house on fire, she is at a complete loss on how to deal with other people. She doesn't understand their aversion to learning everything possible, and they, in turn, don't see the point in knowing things that aren't of any use. As such, she is somewhat lacking in the "friends" department.
The one thing that Vigdis doesn't have problems relating to others with is combat. She favours a sword and shield combo, both of which she uses to great effect in a fight. While her overall speed could be considered just a touch above average, she is patient and resilient enough to wait for her quicker adversaries to tire themselves out trying to break through her defences.
OVERALL PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
(IMAGE)
Vigdis is tall and athletic, with long, blond hair and pale blue eyes. Her fair skin is covered in freckles, and the more sunlight she is exposed to, the frecklier she gets. She has long, dark eyelashes, making her always look like she's half asleep. She has numerous scars covering her body, and the most prominent of these stretches from just above her right eye, across the bridge of her nose, and ends at her left cheekbone (a mark she got when she didn't pay close enough attention during Dragon Training).
Her usual attire consists of black leggings and a loose brown tunic, over which she wears a jerkin of iron lamellar. She also wears knee-high bearskin boots, leather forearm guards, and a blue length of cloth that she wears wrapped across her torso and around her waist as a sash. Her only accessories are the sword belt she wears strapped across her back, the shell shard necklace she received from her mother, and the winged helmet she received from her father.
HISTORY
Before Vigdis was even born, everyone knew she would be a dragon rider. Both of her parents could trace their lineage back to the six original dragon riders of Berk, so it literally was in Vigdis' blood. The matter was only cemented when her father's dragon's egg hatched midway through his wife's pregnancy.
From her birth, Vigdis and Puck (short for "Pokufullur", because that was far too difficult a name for infant Vigdis to say) were all but inseparable. They played together, ate together, and ran away from bath time together. The only times they were apart were when Puck's mother was teaching her daughter how to fly, Vigdis' father taught his daughter how to fight, and her mother taught her everything else. And so things continued for the first ten years of Vigdis' life.
But then one day, a swarm of wild and bloodthirsty dragons attacked Berk. The dragon riders of the village took flight to stop these intruders, which they eventually did... but at a price. Many brave warriors lost their lives that day, Vigdis' father and Puck's mother among them.
Even though death is a normal part of Viking life, her father's death hit Vigdis hard. After her father and his dragon died, Vigdis lost her carefree, childish nature, becoming quiet and withdrawn, focusing more on her studies and training and less on making friends. Thanks in part to this dedication, Vigdis quickly made her way through Dragon Training, coming out at the top of her class.
With her daughter now an adult, Vigdis' mother gave in to her wandering nature, and set out to explore the world. Vigdis hopes to follow her one day, but for now, she intends to make her mark on the island of Berk.
PARENTS, FRIENDS, OTHER FAMILY
Father: Agnar the Bold (deceased) - One of, if not the best dragon rider of his generation. He was a powerfully built man, tall even by Viking standards, with a great mane of flaming red hair and wild grey eyes. He was brave and somewhat reckless, prone to becoming a Berserker in the heat of battle. While he was a fearsome man to his enemies, he loved his family deeply, and was proud of his daughter. Together with his dragon, a female Deadly Nadder named Mjollnir, he helped defend Berk from all who sought to harm his people. Both Agnar and Mjollnir were killed when they helped to slay a band of rogue dragons that were attacking the island.
Mother: Sigrun the Wise (alive, whereabouts unknown) - Unlike most Vikings, Sigrun has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Blond, fair skinned with pale blue eyes, she was always something of a runt in the village. But what she lacked in strength, she more than made up with her intelligence. Her love of learning was so great that she would often trek out into the unknown wilds, searching for plant an animal specimens to further her research. She has written a great many books on an equally great variety of subjects, so much so that nearly half of all the books on Berk were written by her. While she settled down briefly to raise a family, her lust for new information eventually got the better of her, and she headed out once again in search for new knowledge. She hasn't been seen anywhere near Berk for almost three years, but everyone knows she'll turn up again one day.
WEAPON OF CHOICE
Her father's sword, Laevatein, paired with a shield.
DRAGON NAME: Pokufullur
DRAGON NICKNAME: Puck
DRAGON TYPE: Deadly Nadder
DRAGON PERSONALITY
If you were to describe Puck in one word, it would be "catty". She's smug, agile, proud, uninterested in anything that doesn't concern her, arrogant, borderline anti-social, has a major superiority complex, and is quite intelligent for her species. She treats everyone she meets with a mixture of contempt and disinterest, and won't do anything anyone tells her to do, unless she feels like it. The only exception to this behaviour is Vigdis, whom she treats like a younger sister. Sometimes like an annoying little sister, but a sister none the less. But even though Puck puts on a big show of not caring about anything, deep down she is very protective of the village, and would stop at nothing to defend it from harm.
Appearance-wise, Puck has golden eyes, cream-coloured horns and tail spikes, and reddish-orange scales.
DRAGON TECHNIQUES
Along with her fire and tail-spike shooting abilities, Puck is fond of dropping down on her enemies and attacking them with tooth and claw, which has made her slightly burlier than most of her kind.
