If you want to be somehow involved in her history as an acquaintance or something, please feel free to pm me.
NAME: Eydis
ALIAS: The Siren
AGE: 18
GENDER: Female
STANDING: Viking-in-training
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual (Straight)
LIKES:
- Valkyrie: As she is Valkyrie's rider, Eydis has a very strong bond with the Skullion, which is also coupled with a deep-rooted friendship.
- Close contact: While one really wouldn't expect it, Eydis actually has a like to being close to other living things (though most often that's Valkyrie) and doesn't really seem to be particularly bothered with others intruding upon her personal space. Most likely that is due to one of the communication techniques she uses with Valkyrie which relies heavily on touch.
- Competition: She enjoys testing her abilities and isn't afraid of a little competitive fighting or likewise. She honestly does enjoy being beaten (though she avoids showing it) as it gives her incentive to push herself even harder.
- Night: Eydis tends to enjoy night above all other times of the day as it is the time where the air is the clearest and the world is the most active, contrary to the belief that everything's asleep. She especially enjoys listening to crickets chirping, and she often traces patterns along Valkyrie's hide in rhythm to them in order to give the dragon at least a sense of what they may sound like.
DISLIKES:
- Being alone: This goes for both social reasons and combative. She hates the idea of being forced to fight multiple enemies on her own, which stems from the difficulty she had while she was trying to claim Valkyrie. In addition, her liking of closeness generally causes her to seek others out, even if her attitude tends to push them away.
- Disloyalty: A dislike that's obvious towards her father, be it a relationship or a friendship, it's hard to really get Eydis's trust back after you effectively betray her or a friend.
- "Morons": As she calls people that are needlessly slow or enjoy messing around. She tends to have a very low tolerance for horseplay and a good way to get on her nerves is to simply act out like idiots in her presence.
- Insults: Mainly to herself or Valkyrie, as she tends to dish them out herself if she gets particularly annoyed.
STRENGTHS:
- Agility: Eydis is very adept at moving and moving quickly, which is certainly beneficial to her style of fighting. She's quick on her feet and capable of fluid movements, which generally tend to look almost dance-like.
- Readability: She tends to be capable of hiding emotions when she needs to be, which makes her rather hard to read for the most part. This also makes her a decent liar when she needs to be, as her facial expressions tend to hide any dishonesty well if it needs to.
- Spear wielding: She is rather advanced in wielding a spear, both in close combat and long range.
- Understanding: This mainly refers to the Skullion dragon race. Thanks to her life with Valkyrie, she has gotten a pretty good understanding on how the species has adapted and where their weak spots are. While she's not an expert by any means, she's certainly experienced with the species.
WEAKNESSES:
- Near-sighted: Eydis actually has failing vision in that she cannot see long distances very well. Actually, anything outside of five feet within her radius had a tendency to become rather blurry, which also causes her to overlook things that may be coming at her from a distance.
- Self-doubt: While she tries to avoid letting it interfere with her performance, Eydis does occasionally falter due to doubting herself, especially as her eye sight steadily gets worse and she becomes more prone to making an error because of it.
- Strength: While she is definitely quick on her feet and well-toned, she is no body builder. Her muscles are built for endurance more than sheer strength, so she can and probably will be overpowered by something that's more focused on the latter.
- Attitude: Her exterior personality doesn't really allow her to make friends easily, which sort of infringes upon the fact she naturally seeks companionship. This contradiction also occasionally makes it a bit awkward to speak her true feelings, as she tries to appear strong, yet at the same time she yearns to be able to show who she really is.
FEARS:
- Failing: She puts failing in a whole different category when compared to being beaten. Beaten she assumes with losing a friendly competition or likewise, though failing, in her eyes, has much higher stakes and generally involves heavy consequences.
- Heights: It is probably a fortunate things that her dragon is flightless, as Eydis does have a fear of heights. While she's more willing to let it slip than she is her near-sightedness, she does try to keep her calm when confronted with the idea of potentially flying or climbing to ridiculous altitudes. However, most often she tends to retreat with as much dignity as she can.
- Losing Valkyrie: A common fear, quite possibly she fears above all else that she'll one day lose Valkyrie as the dragon has proven to be her closest and most-trusted companion.
- Solitude: She generally becomes somewhat panicked when left completely alone. This is probably also due to the reliance on contact she has gotten used to thanks to Valkyrie.
AMBITIONS:
- Prove herself: To both herself and her father especially, though even in generally she wants to be seen as a strong woman who can take care of herself and others.
- Make others show their true potential: Just as much as herself, she wants to cause others to show what they are truly capable of, as in her eyes potential is great, but it's even better if it's harnessed.
- Overcome her failing sight: She wants her sight to be less of a disability, and while she'll never be as adapted to living without sight as Valkyrie should she choose to lose it, she nevertheless wants to get as close to Valkyrie as possible.
- Become well-known: Linked to the fact she wants to prove herself, she feels she can be more comfortable with the knowledge that other people know and respect her.
SECRETS:
- Near-sighted: While it's one of her weaknesses, the fact her vision is gradually beginning to fail is one of her closest guarded secrets. She finds it to be almost insulting that her vision is beginning to go bad, therefore she usually makes some excuse to cover up for a mishap her vision may have caused (such as overlooking a landmark in the distance or likewise). The only individual who really has any knowledge of her difficulty is Valkyrie, who's been helping Eydis take advantage of her other senses should her vision ever fail completely.
- Soft underneath: She's really a sweet girl, just the fact she wants to show she's not a pushover causes her to think she needs to act distant and indifferent to be so.
PERSONALITY: Eydis is very much to the point. She doesn't really enjoy messing around, and she won't hesitate to be plain out blunt if she finds the need to be so. While she doesn't exactly try to be mean, per say, her typical actions on a day-to-day basis tend to lead others to believe she isn't really the kindest person around.
It really doesn't take much to get on her nerves, thus she has adopted the eye-roll as a personal characteristic (Thor knows she certainly does it a lot!) She generally tends to get quite irritated with other vikings-in-training that, by her definition, learn slower than herself. Nevertheless, she has shown times where her cold, icy exterior seems to melt a bit in that she will perhaps help someone with a form or give advice that's a bit less blunt. She generally tries to avoid making it look like she has a soft-spot though.
In many ways, however, it could be stated that her harsh exterior may be little more than a cover-up for her own self-consciousness. She has a tendency to occasionally doubt herself, and while she tries to avoid it infringing on her performance in training or during other responsibilities, she does have a mild fear that things like her eye sight or potentially just a incapability on her part may cause something to go wrong.
From that description, many tend to wonder how she got her title "The Siren", especially seeing myth describes the sirens of legend to be enchanting and alluring individuals that can easily lure sailors to their deaths in the merciless ocean. In truth, the title comes from her way of fighting, which consists of many elegant moves and rapid twists that makes it resemble an almost enchanting dance. Unlike the rash and aggressive charges many vikings make, she seems to have allowed her wielding of a spear to flourish into an art form.
OVERALL PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Eydis is, overall, rather well-built and toned thanks to her way of fighting. Her build resembles that of a dancer, and seeing her training seems to take various elements from the art of dancing that could be expected. In addition, she tends to wear very light armour, which is generally limited to simple, leather coverings and worn boots that allow her to take advantage of the full movement her body has to offer. She rather average in height, leveling off at around five foot five, and her skin tone seems to have a nice, even tan to it.
Her face is slim, though the most noticeable features about it are probably her eyes, which are a bright azure blue that show of extremely well against her tanned complexion and her dark waves of auburn hair. Generally, she tends to keep her hair either loose in its natural wave, or pulled back in any variety of ways. Though it should be noted that she tends to avoid wearing a helmet, as she finds most viking caps to be needlessly heavy.
She's really not all that decorative when it comes to accessories, the only one really known to be on her person being a string that has a single fang on it -- one of Valkyrie's "baby teeth" which she generally wraps around her upper arm.
HISTORY: Eydis spent her entire life in Berk, as most people did. Her childhood was somewhat average, though did have a mix of excitement with her father's Garden Dragon, Pint's, tendency to get drunk off her father's ale stores and the mayhem that came from it. She had to help her mother clean up many miniature disasters as a child when her father went off to port to either spar with other vikings or see what women he could find. However, while Eydis's mother was quite content with living her life cooking and cleaning up every mess that occurred, Eydis found herself wanting something a bit more exciting than the occasional drunk dragon and the resulting irritability that came from his later hangover.
That's where the idea of becoming a viking came in. While, as a girl, she wasn't as expected to pursue a life of fighting as most men were, she became attracted to the idea of partnering with a dragon like her father had done (though she did hope she wouldn't get stuck with a drunkard of a think like Pint) and learning to fight side-by-side as equals. While her mother was fully supportive of the idea, her father was rather less so. Had she been a son he probably would have been all for it, though he had always been somewhat sexist in that he saw women as being individuals that should simply stay at home and take care of day-to-day responsibilities (and himself of course), not individuals who fought. That reluctance to accept the idea seemed to drive a bit of a stake in the relationship between Eydis and her father, which was already rocky to begin with seeing Eydis wasn't particularly approving of the well-known fact Bodyn's loyalties strayed, even if her mother didn't seem bothered by her husband's actions.
However, Eydis did pursue viking training despite her father's disapproval, and she soon chose to take up a proficiency in the use of a spear, which had a light weight that was most beneficial to the way she enjoyed to move in comparison to a heavier sword or axe. Her agility was probably what saved her life during her formal initiation, during which she was supposed to ideally "bond" to a dragon. While she was at first tempted to go for something simple to possible capture, like a Common Brown, especially due to the fact it was around this time that her eyesight was starting to go bad, she was instead drawn to the idea of potentially bonding with a Skullion. Strange beasts that lacked flight, sight, and hearing, and were also known to be rather aggressive if provoked, Eydis thought that perhaps bonding to one may prove to her father, and herself, that she was more than capable as a viking.
The burrows the Skullions inhabited weren't really all that hard to locate, though it soon became obvious she had potentially underestimated the beasts. Immediately alerted by scent, the wild Skullions raced from the burrows and attacked. It was by sheer luck that she managed to fatally wound the first that leaped at her, and the shock that one of their own had been taken down so quickly gave Eydis enough time to get decent footing for the fight.
She focused primarily on avoiding blows from the Skullions razor sharp fangs and claws rather than dealing blows herself. While at first glance there had been a lot of them pouring from the burrows, as the fight wore on it seemed most of that idea had been primarily a trick of her eyes thanks to the fact the burrows were blurry to begin with and the Skullions' dark colouration had the tendency to blend in rather well with the earth. While she had at first thought there to be at least a few individuals, there actually seemed to have been four tops, counting the one she had unintentionally killed. Even so, the remaining three were still enough to cause her to eventually flee the site or risk exhaustion and potentially being mauled to death.
She didn't attempt to claim her partner again for some time. She determined that attacking the burrows directly was a ridiculous prospect with the Skullions' heightened sense of smell, so instead she took to going downwind and watching. She studied how the dragons acted and waited for her chance, and eventually it came. The young dragon which would grow to be Valkyrie was a rather adventurous creature. Whenever she would venture out from the burrows she would attempt to wander off, only to be scolded by a sharp nudge from one of the adults. Eydis saw this dragon as her chance, after all, a young dragon would be much easier to catch, and if the dragon wanted to wander off as it was it wouldn't be a challenge at all to lure her away.
It could only be expected that eventually the adults' watch would slacken, and the young dragon managed to slip away. Eydis leaped on the chance and ambushed the creature. It was here that she realized just how fortunate it was that Skullions couldn't hear, or else that would have probably been the end of the situation completely thanks to the dragon's frantic screeching. Eventually, however, Eydis managed to get her subdued enough to carry her away to a location closer to the village where she could, hopefully, attempt to gain the dragon's trust.
That was a prospect that was much easier said than done. The dragon, dubbed Valkyrie, wasn't very willing to accept Eydis, and without the dragon's sight or hearing it was difficult to effectively communicate. Eydis tried to placate the beast with offerings of food and, while it worked to an extent, it was obvious that Valkyrie was still wary and unwilling. In fact, gifts of any sort didn't seem to do much good. It was actually a matter of pure chance that Eydis managed to find the way to Valkyrie's heart, which wasn't through gifts, but through touch.
She had managed to brush by Valkyrie's side, and the woman noticed immediately the dragon seemed to relax a bit as long as her touch was gentle, almost affectionate. She took advantage of this immediately, and it was in this way that she and Valkyrie began to effectively bond through the creation of the touch language they use to communicate.
Once Valkyrie seemed, for the most part, finally content with her new partnership, Eydis brought her back to the village. Her mother was quite thrilled with the dragon, though her father, while he was mildly impressed with the effort Eydis put into the dragon, was hardly approving of Eydis's willing choice of a partner. At least Pint could see and hear, not to mention fly. Even so, Eydis chose to ignore his disapproval and continued to grow with Valkyrie at her side, though at the back of her mind she continued to search for that approval. She began to see that perhaps she had to harden herself to the world, and as the years went by she seemed to grow an almost cold exterior with her soft nature hidden beneath, while Valkyrie grew into the seductive dragoness she was known as.
PARENTS, FRIENDS, OTHER FAMILY:
- Bodyn the Scallywag: Eydis's father. He tends to hang around the docks especially and is known for being rather loose as far as his loyalty to his wife and family goes. He is partnered to a Common Garden Dragon named Pint, who's name is somewhat self-explanatory as the dragon has a terrible habit of overindulging on his partner's stores of ale. Bodyn doesn't think very much of Pint, though he thinks even less of Valkyrie due to the Skullion's obvious disabilities in sight and hearing.
- Ellis the fair: Eydis's mother. She's a housekeeper and never had any real wanting to bond to a dragon, though she seems to be rather affectionate toward both Pint and Valkyrie. It's not really known what she sees in her husband as it's really no mystery he has been with other women since their marriage, though she seems to be willing to just go on acting oblivious to it all. She was fully supportive of her daughter becoming a true viking, even though the life for herself was never something she aspired to follow. However, she does seem to be insistent in having grandchildren, and it's not uncommon for her to try and pair Eydis up whenever she gets the chance.
WEAPON OF CHOICE:
Signe, viking spear
Bearing the name of "Signe", meaning "new victory", Eydis's spear can be a deadly weapon if one finds themselves on the other end of it. She has adapted a very fluid fighting style which consists of various twists and spins, and it's rare for her spear to stay in the same hand for too long as she constantly switches it back and forth in order to keep her opponent on their toes.

DRAGON NAME: Valkyrie
DRAGON TYPE: Skullion
As a Skullion, Valkyrie lacks wings and eyes as well, as her species has become well-adapted to living without sight as well as hearing. Instead, her nostrils are extremely well-developed and she can easily sense her way along through scent and touch alone. She is slim in build with a hide of ebony black that allows her to blend in easily in the dark underground burrows where her species makes its home. In addition, her hind feet each possess a single, large, curved talon which, along with her fangs, serves to be her main weapon in battle, much like the talons on a prehistoric velociraptor.
DRAGON PERSONALITY: Valkyrie seems to be much more deserving of a siren title than her partner when it comes to personality. She knows that many others may think she's at a disadvantage due to her lack of sight, hearing, and flight, and she tends to take as much advantage of that as possible. She's somewhat manipulative, and constantly uses her feminine charms to get others to do her bidding. While she's not afraid to get her claws dirty when necessary (after all, she is a Skullion), it's not uncommon for her to try and get potentially larger, preferably male dragons to wait on her tooth and claw. In her book, a seductive compliment can go a long way, and she certainly doesn't mind if she gets complimented in return.
Nevertheless, she does seem to have a noticeably loyalty to Eydis, and while it's rather up to chance if others could really trust her, Eydis really doesn't seem to have any regrets in telling the dragon her deepest secrets (though one could wonder how much that really says seeing Valkyrie can't hear).
Due to Valkyrie's disability when it comes to sight and hearing, she and Eydis have managed to work out a complicated way of communicating. When they are relaxing, generally Eydis traces certain symbols with her finger against the dragon's hide, which Valkyrie's enhanced sense of touch allows her to pick up on and translate mentally. In addition, Eydis generally makes sure to carry certain plants on her person to give herself a noticeable, distinct scent that Valkyrie can easily pick up on, and she has done the same for various locations that may be important for the dragon to be able to identify quickly.
DRAGON TECHNIQUES:
- Enhanced smell/touch: As a Skullion, Valkyrie has an unbelievable sense of smell and touch to make up for her lack of sight and hearing. She seems to be able to create mental pictures with scent alone, which allows her to effectively "see" where the lack of eyes don't permit, though this has a tendency to fail if something doesn't have a scent to begin with or the wind happens to be blowing it away from her. In addition, her skin and claws are extremely sensitive, and generally she can pick up on the faintest touches or vibrations.
