DATE & TIME : October 24th WEATHER CONDITIONS : Sunny CHARACTERS INVOLVED : Koda, Ulrika PREVIOUS THREADS ? None
It was a pretty average day. Koda was having a swell time trying to teach Rag to stand on his hindquarters on command.
"Come on, Rag," she said, throwing a fish into the air. "Stand!"
Rag roared and half-stood, half-leaped to catch the fish. He gobbled it down and gurgled. "Good boy," Koda said softly. She wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him. "You're such a good boy."
Suddenly Koda remembered she was supposed to be hunting with Ulrika today--one of her students. Apparently Ulrika was a bother to the town, and Halldor expected Koda to fix it. She let go of her dragon and instead hopped on his back. "Let's go to the center of town--we'll begin by searching there."
They took off and landed in the center of Berk. Koda hopped off Rag and walked through town, looking through the people for her. Rag followed behind, also keeping an eye out. Soon enough Koda found her. "Hello, Ulrika," she said, a small tone of alertness in her voice.

Ulrika was sat on the first few steps of the dizzyingly long stone staircase that lead to the great hall. She had just received a top-up of arrows from Kenna. She was counting them and making sure their heads were all glistening and deathly sharp. Preparation was essential. Once everything seemed to be in order she checked her bow. She had got used to this new one by now, and it was proving useful.
She slung the quiver and bow on her back, and unsheathed a hunting knife from her belt. She examined it. It was obviously sharp, but she tested with her finger, it wasn't sharp enough. She looked around for a stone, and found what she was looking for. She ground the rock against the metal, filing those blunt edges away.
Ulrika was different when she was like this. Instead of being loud, raucous and stupid, she was composed, almost as if in deep meditation. She was getting ready to hunt, and when she hunted, from what the occasional people managed to glimpse - she was hardly human. So people tended to stay away when she was like this. They didn't know how she'd react, and she was a very good shot for her age.
Timber was sat by, watching, intrigued by Ulrika. Even after all this time, she was surprised at Ulrika. She respected the human's need for space, but the Night Fury was certain that the forest, not only teeming with game but also chock-a-block full of wild dragons, was not the safest place for Ulrika. She knew she was about to leave soon though, and she crooned slightly.
"I am worried about you going off on your own," She purred sympathetically. "You'd be a lot safer if I was around." But the Night Fury got no response, as usual, which she expected. She wished she could communicate with her somehow.
But one person dared come up to her. She looked up at the older woman in front of her as she greeted her. Her face remained unchanged. What was this interruption for? Ulrika was going to go hunting. She didn't need to be bothered right now. She needed a special mindset to help her hunt, to help her become attune with the nature around her to find her prey and take it down.
She knew the woman by sight but not by name. She didn't know she was a teacher, she had been to so few lessons she probably missed them.
"What do you want? She asked coldly. "I'm about to go hunting. Did you need me to bring back something special or what?

Koda immediately started to realize why Halldor had asked this favor of her. Ulrika was less friendly than she was approachable. Koda sighed and threw the handle of her axe on her ground, and leaned on it. “Nothing of the sort, actually,” she replied, calmly speaking so as to not startled this wild beast.
She felt Rag nudge her shoulder and she turned to her dragon quickly. “Rag, go home,” she commanded. She gave him a firm look and Rag flew off. Not, of course, before shooting Timber a look with raised eyebrows. He grinned dragon-ishly, and then took off back to the house.
The viking turned back around and looked at Ulrika. “So… anyway, I’m Koda Ironhead,” she said. She stuck out her hand. “You’re Ulrika, I know.” She teetered on the thought of telling Ulrika why she was there, and why she wasn’t just randomly appearing to hunt with her, but she ultimately decide not to. Ulrika seemed like a secluded one, and to tell her that the second in command of Berk though of her as a nuisance didn’t seem to be a good idea.

Ulrika looked up as if to say 'why bother me?' when Koda wanted something else from her. She then commanded her changewing to leave them. Ulrika's usual self briefly flittered for a moment as she watched the dragon disappear, enticed by it's size, it was a bigger Changewing than Camo. However only Timber caught Rag's attempt of attention, and her ears twitched as she gave a confused expressoin. Was that dragon trying to pull a move on her? They weren't even the same species! Timber didn't think about it too long though, because Koda was still here and wanted to talk to the girl, and hoped nothing bad would come of it.
The older Viking finally introduced herself, presenting her hand. Ulrika's vision looked at the hand, uncomprehending and caring little about the meaning of it. She looked back up to Koda incredulously.
"Umm... Hi?" Ulrika replied, tilting her head. Ulrika really wasn't in a mood to be bothered now. "Seriously, what do you want, I'm about to go hunting, like, right now." Ulrika sheathed her hunting knife and stood up, readjusting the strap of her quiver slightly. She wasn't going to waste any more time. Her prey wasn't going to wait for her.

Koda picked her axe up and nodded. "I can see that," she said, ignoring Ulrika's rudeness. She withdrew her hand and wiped it on her shirt, scowling a bit. Oh, how hard she would hit Ulrika right now if she could... But then, she’d get in trouble of course, maybe she’d do it after. Serves the stubborn teenager right. "I was hoping to tag along," Koda said finally. "In the ring, I'm alright, but I'd like to see some of your... techniques in hunting. You seem to know what your doing with it." She brushed the flat surface of her axe off to remove the dust, then looked back up at Ulrika.
After holding her axe by the handle, Koda started to walk in the direction of woods. She had no idea what exactly she’d do to help Ulrika change, but she began to think. Maybe, thought Koda, I can intervene with her hunting, and see what kind of negative attitude she brings back. From there, I can figure out a way to battle that negative trait. Koda Ironhead, you are a genius! She grinned to herself and looked at Ulrika. What in Woden’s name was she doing?

"You want to see how I hunt?" Ulrika repeated. Her normal self came back briefly, taking the request as a form of flattery. "I'm the best at archery in our age group. Sundra thinks she's equal to me but... Pfft. Nowhere close ." Ulrika hopped off her perch and began to walk to the bridge that lead to the main island. She paused and turned again. She had sensed Timber yearning to follow, as usual. She scowled, and pointed agressively at the Unholy Offspring. "Don't you have better things to do? Like, I don't know, napping? LIke you do all the time? You're too fat to hunt with me, you'll scare the game or blast them to smithereens and then the Chief won't be happy 'cuz there'll be less food for winter." She blabbed. Timber's ears laid back and growled.
'"I was going home anyway, child," She spat rudely back. "It looks like you already have a companion." The Night Fury shot a look at Koda, pupils slitted. She spoke to the older human directly. "Keep her safe. And don't ruin her game. She will turn on you if you do. And no in a way you will enjoy. With a bow in the woods, she is not human."
With that, the Night Fury departed. Ulrika did not feel any cold atmosphere at all, just bemused that Timber was less persistant this time. There was a brief silence, until Ulrika adjusted once more the strap of her quiver. "Ok, let's go."
They headed towards the forest, Ulrika going to her familiar hunting grounds. She hunted so often that she knew the layout of the immediate surrounding forest like the back of her hand. She ignored Koda for a while, but the presence of other footsteps tailing slowly began to disturb her. She stopped and looked back to Koda, remembering that she wanted to see how she hunted.
"So um," Ulrika started, unsure of explaning her procedure. "We have to find the animals first. But we have to be really quiet. Otherwise they will hear us and run away, then the village won't get any food." Since Ulrika knew the forest, she knew how to tread, but she was unsure whether Koda would match up to it. A niggling feeling inside told her this trip was going to be unsucessful. Ulrika was a lone wolf for hunting, after all.

Egh too lazy to bold my text here lol, lets just say ulrika isn't going to concentrate as she does unless she gets a whiff of a good kill, then Koda will be dealing with a real wolf haha
