Summer flew over a grassy field. Her dragon's huge body had the start of a coat of fire over it. As she looked around, her eyes scanned for anyone other than her brother. He was supposed to be holding down the fort back at the little cave they had found. She looked down at the grass and noticed that it rained while they had slept. The ground looked squishy with water and in some places little mud puddles covered the ground. As they continued to fly, the sky started to fill with little clouds. "I don't want to give up searching yet." She said to her dragon. They had been trying to find Berk for days, and so far it they were not succeeding. When you were at the end of a huge grassy field, you had tons of places to look.
Summer made her dragon bank next to a tree that had enough coverage for both Fireworm and herself. She hopped off the back of Fireworm and started to sit down next to the trunk. Her legs ached from holding onto her dragon for what had seemed like hours. She stomach growled from not eating since last night. It was now the middle of the day. Almost a full day she had gone without eating. Though Fireworm had flown off in the middle of the night to go catch a deer, Summer had wanted no part in it. She believed that she should catch food for herself, or that someone else could. But taking from her dragon she felt was wrong. As she sat down, her dragon curled up around her. So instead of leaning on the tree, she was leaning on the neck of her dragon.
Summer looked at Fireworm though tired eyes and smiled. The Monstrous Nightmare had it's wings folded up against it's sides with her legs tucked underneath her. As she watched the dragon get settled for a little break, she was surprised when Fireworm's head appeared in her lap. Her dragon looked up at her rider with amber-yellow eyes as she quickly fell to a soft slumber. Summer's head fell against her dragon's warm body and she gave a quiet laugh. "That isn't a bad idea." She yawned and stretched before pressing herself closer to her dragon. A light wind had begun to pick up and she started to shiver. The cold getting right to her since she had no jacket. When she started to get slightly colder, her teeth started to chatter. "Why the heck did I forget a jacket?" She questioned herself. As she tried to get warm, she saw a faint shadow of someone or something not far off. It looked to be a dragon and rider but she wasn't sure. If they stopped she would have a few things to ask them, but if they didn't, then oh well. There were more days.

Kalithra bent her great head and nudged Slode in the back. They had been walking for what seemed like forever (but what was probably really only forty minutes) and she was getting rather tired. Big, fat, short-legged water dragons weren't ment to walk for ages and ages on land, and her knees buckled ever now and again from the sheer weight of her own enormous body.
"I know, I know. I'm sorry, girl," Slode said, patting her nose and giving a sympathetic smile. "I know you'd rather swim, but the wood I need for my arrows can only be found from Ceder trees, and unfortunatly, those are in the middle of the Island. And I'm SURE you don't want to fly..." This was true, Kalithra didn't fancy flying much. She could do it, no doubt, she had quite an impressive wing-span! But it tired her out even more than walking did, and she was sometimes prone to falling right out of the sky! And she would never willingly endanger her beloved Slode like that!
She just snorted and grumbled quietly. Slode needed her claws to rip the wood apart from the trunk, she knew, but she still didn't like walking. Slode had run out of arrows a few days before, accidentally drowning several in the horbour, and burying a few so deep into the side of his house that there was no hope of getting them out in one piece!
Kalithra had a keen sense of smell, and once she scented other beings near-by, she hesitated, letting out a low warble. Slode stopped too and gave a backwards glance at his dragon.
"What is it, Kalithra?" he asked, glancing around nervously. "Why'd you-oh!" he followed her gaze across the clearing, to a girl cuddled up next to her dragon. It was a fearsome looking Nightmare, but Kalithra doubled it's size, and she was a fantastic fighter, so that isn't quite what worried him so much. It was the fact that he didn't recognize this girl at all that made him suspicious. He knew practically everyone in Berk; so why was her face unfamilar? And he would remember such a pretty girl! Motioning for Kalithra to follow him, he approached her, a weary smile on his face.
"Hi there....you from around here? Are you lost?" he asked, waving while letting the other hand hang free, letting her see that he had no weapon in hand.

Summer looked up when she heard a voice. As she leaned forward, her bow appeared on her back. It always seemed to appear when she thought she would need it. When she would find out she wouldn’t need it, it would vanish. She gave a small smile to the other Viking once she stood up. Fireworm stood up and watched the other dragon. Trying to figure out if it was good or not. So far, they had run into terrible dragons. They hadn’t seen one tame one in years. Summer waved at the guy, whom looked to be a Viking. “Well I guess you could say I’m lost. I’m not from around here. I come from an island that got destroyed about two years ago. My brother and I have been trying to find the island called Berk.” She said the last part a little unsure. She wasn’t exactly sure that she said it right. But, the guy would probably know what she meant.
Summer laughed. “By the way. My names Summer. Summer Frost.” She walked over to the guy and held out her hand. When she got closer she realized how big his dragon really was. Her eyes widened in amazement, but she looked towards her dragon as soon as they were back to normal. Compared to the one the guy was with, hers looked like a baby. Since Fireworm had followed her, now that she was next to the other dragon, she tried to stand up higher. She managed to look about 3 feet taller. Not much compared to how big this other one seemed. Summer finally felt the weight of her bow on her back, and she shrugged. It would probably stay there for a little while now. The wind had seemed to die down since they had rested. The ground on the other hand. It was still soaked. So much so that it had squelched when Summer had walked over.
“So, do you happen to know where this Brek might be? Or are you from there?” She knew that her brother and herself would be quite depressed if they found out it was still leagues away. They were pretty much done with flying long distances for awhile, and they both really wanted a warm house and warm cooked food.

Kalithra watched the nightmare through cautious eyes. She'd raised two broods of the little brutes herself one summer, and knew how short-tempered they could be. But this one didn't seem to want any trouble and was minding itself, so she decided it wasn't a threat. Yet. But she didn't let Slode get more than a few feet away from her; she wasn't going to give the dragon any chance to snap at her rider.
Slode shook the girl's hand and gave a crooked smile, one corner of his mouth higher than the other. She was prettier up close, but the closer she got, the more certain he was that he didn't know her. What she said next just comfirmed it.
"Actually, you've hit the target on the nose; you're standing on the desolate rock that is Berk as we speak." he said, sweaping his hand out around them. "Well, actually, we're in the forest surrounding Berk; the actual town is about forty minutes that way." He jerked his thumb behind him, towards the village, and ended up jabbing Kalithra in the nose. She didn't notice much, her scales were thick, but she stretched her neck out, giving the nightmare a curious sniff.
It was a pretty chilly day, even Slode was cold through his bear-fur vest and fur-lined helmet! He noticed this girl, Summer she said her name was, wasn't even wearing a jacket, and wondered how she wasn't completely frozen! "Um, you know, it's only going to get colder. Do you want to borrow this?" He held out his vest for her. "Oh, and I'm Slode Derikson."

Summer watched as his dragon started to sniff at hers. Fireworm just stood completely still, almost as if acting oblivious to the other dragon. “That’s great. My brother and I have been flying for days around this area. If we had known that we were on it, well you would probably have seen me weeks ago. When he put his hand out with his vest she just smiled and shook her head. “I’m good. That’s why I have this little fire bucket here.” As she said that, she pointed her finger at Fireworm who nudged up against her hand. Summer absentmindedly started to scratch the dragon under the chin and as she did the Nightmare started to let its head slowly fall.
Remembering that she hadn’t told Slode the name of her dragon she gave a small laugh. “Her name’s Fireworm. And you can probably tell that she is a Monstrous Nightmare. But I am quite curious about yours. What type of dragon is it?” She didn’t want to say she incase it was a boy, and she didn’t want to say he incase it was a girl. You never knew how a dragon could react if it thought that it was being offended. Just the other week, her dragon had caught her brother’s jacket on fire when he threw an insult at her behind her back. It had been funny to all except her brother, but still it had been bad. Summer thought about going back to the cave to retrieve her brother and a jacket when she saw another shape in the sky. This one she knew though.
Summer whistled a shrill and loud whistle and waved her arms above her head. She looked at Slode’s dragon hoping that she didn’t startle it. “Well this is just great. You can meet my brother; because here he comes right now. She watched as her brother told his dragon to come down beside the Nightmare that she owned.

Post by Mitch & Night on Nov 22, 2010 1:20:46 GMT -5
& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Mitch had decided that he needed some flying practice and he needed to find his sister. So after urging Night out of the cave with fish, they took off into the air. He had one of her jackets with him since it was getting cold. After a couple of hours of flying in the cold, he had to zip up his jacket. The wind and cold air were not feeling so good. If somehow his sister had managed to find a way to Berk, he had been smart. He had with him all of their supplies; which in reality was really not that much. Night had also been keeping an eye out for the Nightmare that Mitch’s sister owned. When they were just about to turn back to the cave, thinking that maybe she was already back there, both he and the dragon heard a whistle that Summer gave when she wanted them. Mitch looked over his Night Fury’s shoulder to see his sister waving her arms.
As he turned Night towards his sister, it was then that he noticed that she was talking to another guy and his dragon. Mitch felt the sudden need to protect his dragon since the Night Fury looked so small compared to it. He had never remembered seeing a dragon that big before. As he slid of Night’s back, his eyes grew wide with amazement. He couldn’t believe how big the dragon was close up. When he started to get used to it, he walked a little closer and handed Summer her jacket. “Thought you might need this.” He said as he turned to her. Night had now taken an interest in the other dragon as well. He walked closer to it and stretched out his head to smell it. To him the dragon smelt of seawater. Night was very confused by this, so he backed up and went to lie down next to Fireworm. His wings tucked in next to his side as he listened to the humans talk.
Mitch turned to the guy whom he had still not been introduced to. As he held out his hand, he said, “My names Mitchell. But, everyone calls me Mitch. My dragon is Night, since I found him at night and he is a Night Fury.” He smiled a crooked grin and stepped back once he had shaken Slode’s hand.

((haha, super lazy and waiting 'till last minute to reply XD))
Slode shook this new guy's hand, appearantly Summer's brother. He watched the Nightfury retreat to sit next to Firework, and couldn't help but stare. 'How in Odin's name did he find a Nightfury?' he thought. They were incredibly rare, and even if you could find one, they were said to be some of the hardest dragons to train. But they obviously weren't from around here; maybe where they came from, Nightfuries were more abundant.
Kalithra had seen a few Nightfuries in Berk, and knew of several wild ones on the surrounding Islands, but was never able to get over the fact that they were tamable. Kalithra was no spring chicken; she'd seen plenty of years before meeting Slode, and of all those years, she'd never seen a tame Nightfury. It wasn't until she'd come to Berk had she meet one.
"Hello?" she drawled, dipping her head to get a better look at the new dragons. "Do you speak dragonese?" The dialect Kalithra spoke was rather different than the normal Berk-dragon dialect, but a few of the words were similar, and she hoped wherever these dragons came from, they spoke as well.
Slode noticed Mitch and his dragon staring at Kalithra, and he didn't understand why until Kalithra let out a few warbling sounds.
"Oh, right, I havn't introduced her yet, have I?" he laughed and reached back to pat her head. "This is Kalithra, the biggest, sweetest lump of a Scauldren you'll ever meet. She may look a little fierce, but believe me, she's completely harmless!" Kalithra shot him a disaproving look, and nuzzled his hand.
"Don't tell them that," she sighed, sitting down and causing the ground to rumble as she did so. "I'm a dangerous and fiercesome dragon, remember? I strike fear into the hearts of my enemies! Don't tell them I'm harmless!" Slode shook his head, not really understanding what she said. He did speak a spot of dragonese, but more often than not, the strings of words Kalithra spoke were too garbled with a strange accent for him to understand.
"So, why are you guys looking for Berk, anyway?" he asked turning back to the siblings. "It's not a very big place, nor that famous. Are you looking for someone?"

((Sorry for how late these are. And how short they might be. I can't really tell length since my computer got taken aqua and I am on my iPod. That would also be the case for why there is no pretty format. It might be a couple weeks before they are seen again.))
Summer smiled at the dragons who seemed to be getting along. When Fireworm sounded like she was starting to laugh, she smiled bigger. As she looked back over at Slode, she nodded to the dragon. "That is the first one I've seen in person. Yes. I've heard of them before and saw them in books, but never up close." She looked over at her brother who still hadn't said anything yet. She sighed and shook her head. Sometimes her brother could be so weird when it came to talking to new people. She clasped her hands together but after a couple seconds she let her right arm rub the spot on her left arm where she had a burn from her dragons tail the first time they met. The jacket was covering it so only people who knew about would know what she was rubbing.
Fireworm nodded to Kalithra. "Yes. I do speak it. But Night only speaks it slightly. Where is your accent from? It's different from what I am used to." She looked over at Night and nudged him in the shoulder when he didn't speak. "Sorry about the mute one. We both aren't used to other tame dragons. The ones that we have seen recently have all been wild." When she heard what Kalithra had said, she laughed a gurgled laugh. This other dragon seemed okay even though they had just met. "Dont all dragons wish that's what their humans partners said. Of course only some humans can speak our language to know that." She sighed and let her wings fall.
Summer looked at the dragons as they seemed to laugh. "Well its kind of a long story. One that involves danger and all of that good stuff." She far a soft laugh at her own words. "In other words. It's getting colder and we would die from standing so long. Plus, it looks like you guys were going off to do something before you stopped by. If you want we can help you if you show us the way to Berk?" She looked over at her brother wondering what he would say to what he just said. Usually he would turn something like that over and turn it in a bad way. She hoped this time he wouldn't.

Mitch gave a little smirk as he looked at Kalithra. His eyes moved over the Scauldron wondering what it could do. He mainly thought about what type of secret moves or abilities the dragon could have. When Slode started to talk again, he looked back at the Viking. He had been about to say something, but his sister beat him to it. When he felt her staring at him, he looked at her then back at him. "What he forgot to mention was, no. We aren't looking for anyone in particular. Our father had just said that this was the best place to go to learn how to survive with your dragon and work with it."
Night listened intently to the conversation between Kathlira and Fireworm. He understood nearly every word that they said since Kathliras accent sounded different than what he was used to. But when Firewrom nudged him he decided he better say something instead of just sitting there looking stupid. When he spoke, it was in a hesitant voice. "Sorry it just takes me awhile to understand what some say. Especially with your accent. Not that it's bad or anything." He looked over at Fireworm and their partners. "So where do you come from?" He looked back at Kalithra. "And do you happen to speak human? I have always wanted to know what Mitch is saying."
Mitch looked over at the dragons. "Yeah. We can help you out. Plus, I bet it's not that bad what you were doing. And even so, if you do show us to Berk you would be a great help." He climbed up on the Furies back and looked over at Slode. "Whatever you were doing, you are going to need help. It's getting dark fast." He said as nodded towards the sun which was starting to set behind a hill. "Luckily Night's good at flying in the dark. And if you do show us to Berk and my sister and I tell you the tale, you will also find out how we came across these two." He said as he patted Nights neck and gestures over to Fireworm. "They are part of the story as much as why we were trying to find Berk."
