It was early morning, around the time that Vikings in the nearby village were only beginning to rise. It was still pretty dark out, so the great red dragon was barely visible as it sifted through the trees. The moon glimmered off of the ruby scales every now and then as the dragon made its way closer to the outer area of the village. Very few were up, a few tame dragons and one or two vikings. He slid to a stop behind numerous tress, then just laid there, watching the buildings. His face depicted an almost irritation, though with lack of light it just looked downright terrifying. He laid there for awhile, not caring as the sun slowly rose and the village could probably see a bit of him.
So he laid there for an hour or so, just watching the village as the sun slowly rose on the horizon. His face showed a bit more emotion then in dark, irritation wasn't the actual show, or even anger. If anything, it was longing, loneliness. With a faint grumble in dragonese, he sat up but stayed behind the trees, watching the village slowly come to life. It was his own fault he was lonely, but he wasn't going to follow some coward, or even worse, fall in love with a spineless lizard. Dragons feared him, many humans did as well, only a human and dragon pair had ever really talked to him before.
So for some odd circumstance, he stayed to watch the village, maroon scales in brilliant light as he sat there, looking relatively harmless.

"Needs a husband, she does," a rather large red-headed woman remarked behind her hands as Oddny walked briskly by them.
"Or at least a dragon," the Red-head's companions answered, nodding vigorously. "A woman on her own is no good to anyone."
"But who'd want to marry that odd-ball? Chased off her own dragon 'fore she was 16..."
"So strange, it's no wonder...." Oddny heard none of their rather rude conversation, seeing as her head was already swimming with thoughts. She had bigger and better things to do today than plan revenge on a few unpleasant village-women, like skip work, sketch, look for ginger roots, skip work, fish, skip work, nap, skip work....did she mention skipping work? It's not that she particularly hated working at the docks, she had, in fact, chosen that job for herself; it just got in the way of things she actually wanted to be doing.
Heading off into the forest, she hiked her shoulder bag higher onto her shoulder, as it kept slidding down and dragging in the dirt. There was no particular order of events she was planning on following. If she found ginger roots before she got to the lake, great! If not, then she'd fish first. Or maybe nap. It didn't matter to Oddny; when you were skipping work, everything seemed like a good idea!
She had just entered the first of the trees, high-stepping roots here and there, when her foot became tangled in something and she fell flat on her face. Muttering curses, she lifted her head, expecting to see a large bramble stuck in her boot-fur, or maybe some ivy wrapped around her ankle. What she saw instead was avery large, very thick, and VERY RED dragon tail.
Oddny's mouth hung open in a silent shreik, and her eyes darted around. She'd been too wrapped up in her thoughts to notice any of her surroundings, but as soon as she actually focused on what was around her, she saw it. Or rather, him.
It was probably the biggest, brightest dragon Oddny had ever seen on Berk, discounting the Doomfang, as that never came up on land. It's scaly face was staring at the village at the moment, and she realized it probably hadn't even noticed her yet. She looked back at the village, and judged that she could probably jump up and run back before this dragon ever even saw her. It was a silly fear she entertained, she knew. Dragons wern't enemies anymore, this one was probably as old and friendly as an elderly retreiver dog, but she just couldn't help it! How could a small girl NOT be afraid of a giant red fire-breathing, flying dragon!?
Without another thought, she jumped up and took off towards the vilage. Unfortunatly for Oddny, though, she had forgotten the dragon's tail still sat across the path, and yet again she tripped on it, falling yet again into the dirt.

Of course, his thoughts drifted, why did he even bother with doing anything more if his ending was so fast approaching? In any case, he focused and stared at the movements of the village, his red eyes bright. His form was larger then the monstrous Nightmare and yet, if anybody had heard or even seen a boneknapper, it was a tad smaller then it. Still, its red eyes closed as it exhaled a plume of dark smoke, its thoughts flickering in and out of whether it should leave or stay. He was old, very old, in fact, he seemed to just want one person or dragon to know him before he was really ready to leave.
He felt the first hit against his red tail but didn't find the urge to look yet, simply because fear rolled off of a feminine scent in waves. He knew it would be another disappointment to watch somebody scream in his face and run. Surprisingly, she didn't scream, and when she finally did run, she tripped again. With a small sniff, he turned his head to her, bright yet, incredibly sad red eyes fixated on Oddny and he lowered his head to be eye-level with her. It was obvious he was trying not to startle her, but a massive dragon could always be terrifying.
It could especially be scary, considering he lifted a paw and grabbed the back of her shirt, although he didn't do it roughly or cruelly, he slowly helped her up and set her to the side on her feet. As he sat back once more, scales glimmering, he laid down and curled his tail around himself, making his reptilian form look smaller then it was as he watched her with downcast eyes. He expected her to run the second she was down so he sighed and closed his eyes, also presuming she couldn't speak dragonese.

Oddny was stunned into silence as the massive dragon picked her up and set her back on her feet! It's humongous claws were only centimeters away from her neck, and yet she was still alive. Her face frozen in terror, she slowly turned her gaze back to the dragon, who as it would seem, did not look as ferocious or murderous as she imagined a wild dragon's face would look. It looked rather....sad, in fact. Or lonely. That was puzzling; could wild dragons even feel those emotions? Either this dragon was an incredibly good actor, or.......
"Um," she sputtered, not taking her eyes from the dragon. "Uh, I-I 'spose y-y-you don't speak N-Norse," she wracked her brain for even the slightest bit of dragonese, anything at all! She was a rather perceptive girl, but she was spacey, and forgot these types of things easily.
"Kind is weather or not candid, she spluttered out, barely even aware of what she was saying. "Unfortunate is the water in Night claws.
Oddny's brain didn't quite work like the other Vikings. She couldn't help this fear of dragons, some people disliked lightning or thunder, for Oddny, it was dragons; BIG dragons! This poor beast had done nothing at all to give her any reason to fear it, and for this, she felt bad. It obviously wasn't so happy, having her treat it like the plague was NOT going to make it feel better. But she just couldn't make herself stopp shaking, or make her voice level out, as it was cracking here and there from fear.
