Sven was lazily sat under a pine tree in the shade, overlooking the glassy lake. He had his notebook in his lap, pencil poised to scribble down the slightest movement from the surrounding ecosystem.
Suddenly large crashing noises and the sound of breaking branches echoed through the canyon; and before Sven could even have a guess at what was causing the ruckus, a turquoise Deadly Nadder (Guess who) burst from the overhead canopy and landed by the lakeside. It began to stare at the calm waters, ceasing all movement and the ambient silence resumed.
Sven was wide-eyed. This dragon was much, much bigger than himself, so the little human kept still, only his wrist moving wildly across the page, drawing the dragon. He had no idea what the species' name was, but he did not want to get on it's bad side. It had not seen him yet, and Sven hoped it would stay that way. He noted the blue mackerel-type markings that lined the beast's body, harmonising with the bright turquoise, reminding him of tropical waters.
Sven soon grew bored of the dragon's presence. The dragon had not moved for a few hours now, and although at first he thought it was fishing, his mind quickly changed when a Heron nearby was fearlessly fishing nearby, hauling in large and easy catches. He really had no idea what this thing was doing. Sven was in half a mind to make his presence known and shout "Do something!" to it. Until a voice spoke behind him.
"Boo." Said the voice. It had been so silent all this time; Sven concentrating so much on the dragon that he didn't even notice Hermes had slipped up behind him for a surprise. Realising who it was, he gave a sigh of relief.
"Blimey, Hermes, you gave me the fright of my life!" Sven whispered at the head that appeared at his side. Returning his gaze to the Nadder, it had moved, noticing something in the water - but Sven became disappointed again as it turned out there was a blemish in the dragon's reflection thus preened itself a little. With a grunt and a little cackle, the dragon flew off.
Sven felt he had to stretch his legs a little now, so got up from his place and began to walk to the shoreline. The soft mud had made an imprint of the dragon's footprint, so he began to sketch that too.
"I'll have to ask the villagers what that dragon's called." He said to Hermes, making a mental note to himself.
"Apparently that dragon's name is Scratchet, and the appointed nuisance of the area." Hermes informed, with a little smirk. Looking at her, Sven crossed his arms, sussing it out.
"So you're saying you made a pact with this dragon just so you can come up to me and scare the living daylights out of me?"
"Nope, the opportunity was too good to miss - but thanks for suggesting!" Hermes gave a hearty laugh. Sven didn't look too pleased. The dragon shrugged at the stare, "Fine, fine! I won't do anything." Hermes knew she'd never do anything on the level of Scratchet-annoying to him. The dragon in question had been bothering her on the way here as it were.
There was a sort of silence between them, the ever-present nature overpowering their argument and insisting on calm. Hermes closed her eyes and let the wind run through her scales, whilst Sven took a seat on a nearby rock and cast a pebble into the water, disrupting it's surface. Hermes silently approached Sven and nuzzled him in the chest. He rubbed her cheek in return.
"That rock must be cold, come sit with me." Hermes stated blandly, retracting from Sven and making herself comfy on the grassy lawn in a patch of sunlight. Sven willingly agreed, sitting with his back leaned against her side. "I bet all that 'research' had made you knackered right?" She asked questioningly. The human had been so wrapped up in the abundance of dragons that he still hadn't finished fixing the saddle.
(OOC: Feel free to join in, if anyone wants to meet Hermes ^_^)
