The view from up here

It was a cool, cloudy day with a light breeze that toyed with the green leaves in the tree tops and created a rustling sound through the entire forest as the foliage trembled in usion with the rest. It was midmorning. The sun was still relatively low, it was continuing its steep ascent into the crest of the sky. Luna kept her eyes trained intently on the sky searching it's blue ambiance for the white streak across through the clouds which would be slity flying home with Curtis his back to see her again after their time apart. For Luna, the days he had been gone seemed like weeks without him here. Time seemed to fly when they were together, but when apart, any amount of time seemed elongated. She missed him. Alot. She was at the base on the mountain that towered over the village of berk, where  Luna resided with her two dragons, whom she had left at home on this particular occasion. The young woman's figure was silhouetted and the ground under her feet, forming a shadow cast out behind her boots, which were planted firmly on the ground. The gentle wind swept by and caressed Lunas face as it intertwined with her strands of feather-strewn hair as it waved slowly in the wind. When a ray of sun shone down on her, the fiery red tucked into her blonde hair would glint and shine in the brilliant light. Luna waited in silence. Her eyes to the south looking into the clouds on the horizon, anticipating the sight of the farmiliar white fear gliding high in the sky. They would be returning from red rock, a coastal town on the mainland south of berk. It was where Curtis was born and raised, he had brought luna there once with him on one of his visits. She combed her fingers through her hair as she thought many things and let's her mind and imagination wander to pass the time.

After a few hours, Luna saw a white dragon approaching in the distance. A smile twitched at the edge of her pink lips and spread across Lunas freckled face and grew into a wide grin. Slity approached quickly. Luna smoothed out her clothes which where being flapped around by the cool breeze. About 20 minutes after he had showed up on the horizon, he began to circle slowly over the island, preparing to land. Luna scuttled back on the platform, giving Curtis room to land slity on the rocky ledge set firmly on the side of the craggy rock face. The massive white dragon landed gracefully on the grassy ledge. Luna watched as the rider slid off the dragons back. Luna laughed as she ran toward him. She must have surprised him when she hit him, because she was so exited that she hadn't stopped in time. She crashed ungracefully into him and knocked him over onto his back and she landed on top of him, her face next to his as her hair fell from behind her ear and a feather fell and touched his face. " sorry! " she said when he had caught his breath. She smiled as she whispered " I missed you " to him. She took his hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. It was hood to feel the palm of his hand again. Luna bent her head groundward towards his and pressed her nose softly against his own as she looked into his eyes and lost herself in their depths.

It had been a long, Exhausting week. The thing's Curtis had tried to settle back at his homeland, Yes. He had gotten everything he wanted to get settled done with and he was happy about it. The weather down in Red Rock had been sunny and bright like it had always been. Only once was there a fury of small droplets of rain pouring down from the sky's above, It had only lasted about an hour then the sky's had cleared up and a light breeze had gone by. Curtis had spent his last few day's when he was done with everything else just saying Hello to the people he knew there. It was nice to see face's you grew up with, There wasn't a person in that small province that Curtis didn't know about and he was grateful for that because if he ever needed help he knew that someone would help him out. When the day came that he had to come back to Berk he was happy, Yes he could of returned before the last few day's but he just wanted to stay a little longer. It was a long flight from Red Rock back to Berk, But worth it again as always.

When Curtis had landed on the island once again he was greeted with Luna falling on top of himself, He didn't care. He smiled back at Luna and looked at her. "I missed you too." He laughed abit and helped Luna get off him so he could stand up. When he was back up on his feet and gave Luna a light hug before stepping back. "How have you been?" Curtis inquired to Luna, He had kept Silvia with her because he knew she wasn't quite old enough to be traveling far distances. After Luna had answered he smiled and asked her about Silvia if she had been ok over the week. He waited abit before asking yet another question, He just wanted to know afew things. "Anything happen around here?" He shifted his foot abit and tapped it on the Rockey surface that they stood upon.

"not really, just the norm for me. Nothing exiting. Nothing new. " Luna said in reply to curtis' question. She was glad to see him again. She felt something nugde her from behind and she looked over her shoulder and saw slity with his nose on her back. Luna laughed " hi slity!" she said as she turned around and gave him a sctratch on his head. He poked Lunas stomach playfully with his nose a few times before taking the edge of her shirt in his teeth and tugging gently at it. Luna giggled at him "ya, I missed you too" she said. Slity made a rumbling in his belly as he pulled jestfully at her shirt. Luna put her hands on his head and tried to push it away. He stopped after a second. He poked her with his nose again before licking her face with his wet, sloppy tongue. Luna wiped the fishy slime off her face with the arm of her shirt. " ew." she said as she turned around to face Curtis again. " yOur dragon is crazy!" she said playfully to Curtis. She took a step towards him with a more serious face as she remembered what his business had been in red rock. " so....what happened? how did it go?" Luna asked Curtis as he stood there quietly. She wondered how things had gone with his father as she waited for him to answer.

Curtis laughed watching Slity playfully attacking Luna. He smiled at Slity "Ya, He is my crazy dragon alright" Curtis laguhed to himself abit before listening to Luna's next question. How did it go with his father, Hmm. It was avarage he guessed. He shook his head and decided to speak out now. "Well.. Kinda what I suspected at first. He tried to attack me." Curtis rolled his eyes and shook his head, Rubbing his foot back and then forward again. "Luckly my Mom knocked some sense into him so we could talk to him properly." Curtis laughed at this, It was funny to think that his mom told his dad what to do, It wasn't the first time either. That's one of the reason's he prefered his mom. "But, It took about two or three day's to completly flatten out everything. But everything is good now." He paced around the platform a couple of times before stopping again and looking up at the sky, "So nice to be back" Curtis looked over at Luna and smiled.

He walked over to Slity and patted his head lightly, Slity gave him and nudge and closed his eyes. "Question" Curtis stopped and turned his gaze over at Luna again "How has Silvia been? Given you any troubles?" Curtis wouldn't of been suprised if Silvia was a bit nut's while he was gone, She was just like that to be abit hyper and then calm down, And then hype right back up again. It was like a pattern she followed on her own to be Crazy then Calm again and so on. Curtis looked up the side of the mountian and then back to Luna and pointed his finger towards the top of the mountian, "Want to uh.."Curtis stopped for a moment. "Go up there?" He stopped and waited for Luna to respond if she wanted to go up the mountian, This would of been the first time him and Luna went up the mountian. Cloest they have been to the mountian togather is well. Right now and when they met, They were in the same area that they were that night.

Luna listened tO his about Silvia before answering. " she was pretty goodfor the most part. I had a little trouble getting her to sleep, but eventually she would fall asleep. I don't know if you let her do it at home, but I let her sleep in my bed with me and snip and snatcher. She really seemed to like it!" she smiled and looked at Curtis. She was exceedingly glad he was home safe, personally she thought it had been an overly dangerous venture to attempt to reconcile with his father, considering both him and Curtis had attempted murder against each other. But by the sound of it things were okay now. Luna wondered briefly if Curtis had told his parents about her. She had briefly met his mother when he had brought her to visit once, but they had hardly become acquainted and his father had most likely never heard of her. She wondered if she ever would meet his father. She wondered what his mother thought of her, and if he had heard anything of her, what his father thoughtof her. She wondered if his father knew about her and Curtis, if he would approve of their relationship. Lund thoughts wandered in that direction for awhile as she turned the numerous ideas over in her mind.

Lunas heard Curtis say something. She reeled her thoughts back in before Turning Her attention Back to Curtis. She looked over at him. His eyes were fixed on the snow-capped peak of the mountain. She shook her head before asking him to repeat the qustion. When he did, she released she had heard correctly. He wanted her to go up there, on the mountain with him. Was he serious? Her? Up? On a mountain? No. Absolutely not. She thought he would know her well enough by now. But this was something she liked about him. His sheer sense of determination. His immobility on a subject. The way he seemed to convince her to do crazy things, which she ended up enjoying. But a mountain?! She had never been that high in her entire life! She tilted her head back and looked up at the moutin before looking over at Curtis beside her and taking a step away. She moistened her lips before answering "ummm.....I-I'm sure. I don't think so, Curtis. " she looked at him with confused and slightly concerned look on her face. She pushed a lock of her hair behind her ear as she waited for him to say something in reply.

Curtis laughed abit when he heard Luna was that she let Silvia sleep on her bed. At home Silvia usally just drops where ever and sleeps, Curtis can even remember one day when he woke up and saw Silvia curled up into a ball ontop of Slity's head, Now either Slity didn't feel her due to her being light or he just let her sleep there. Either way Curtis had laughed to himself that morning just becuase he thought it was funny. Curtis looked around the platform that they were standing on. He heard Lun response and smiled abit before laughing quietly. He knew that was going to be her response, She HATES hieghts but Curtis wasn't going to give up very easy on this. Even when he suggests crazy idea's Luna generally gose along with it and likes it for the most part.

Curtis walked over to Luna and lightly patted her on the back before looking up at the peak of the mountian, They weren't going to fly to the top that's even abit crazy for Curtis. But would he still do it, Probably. He looked down the side of the mountian, Curtis knows there's alot of flat, snow capped areas on the mountian. Alot diffrent then the one's back home, Yes your able to see the outline of them from Red rock but it's like in order to get from Red Rock to the towns on the other side, You have to pass through it or Fly right on through. Even then that can take a while. Curtis lightly rubbed Luna's shoulder, "You know we wouldn't go all the way to the top right?" Curtis paused for a minute to allow Luna to think for a second or two before he went on again. "There's flat area's on the mountian not too far up, It's still a ways up yes but do you think either Me or Slity will allow you to fall off?" Curtis laughed to himself abit, Pretty clear question with a very clear awnser to it.

Luna listened to Curtis as he tried to convince her to go with him up the mountain. She kept her eyes on the craggy rockface as she thought about it. She really didn't want to go up there, no matter how high the elevation. Smile twitched at the edge of her lips when he said he wouldn't let her fall. Of course he wouldn't. She completely trusted him in that, it was the height she had problems with, she didn't know what it was about high places that made her so nervous. She glanced warily over at Curtis with his arm around her. He was so cute though, she could tell he really wanted her to do this with him. She leaned gently on him as she gave him a nervous smile " okay " she said quietly, giving in to him, only slightly begrudgingly, it was hard for luna to be upset with him.

Curtis smiled when Luna finally allowed him to take her up the mountian. He knew she was going to be nervous on the way up and probably until they come back down to the forest floor once again. He hadn't really decided on how long they would be up there, He guessed until one of them either needed to leave or wanted to go back down again. Curtis looked over at Slity and nodded towards him, Slity walked over to them and stood there waiting for them. Curtis pointed out his hand to Slity and allowed Luna to go before him, He walked over and got up onto Slity's back after Luna was on and good to go. Curtis looked up at the mountian for a moment and looked back at Luna, "Alright, Were going to go up slowly alright? So, Don't worry too much." He knew that Luna didn't like going fast on Slity becuase of her fear. It was ok for Curtis becuase he knew that Slity wasn't going to be stupid and fly all over the place.

Curtis pushed Slity and he took off, Curtis had Slity circle around the mountian while ascending at a normal pace. They got about a quarter up the mountian and still going up, Curtis turned his head to the side as if looking out to the side of them he was acually looking out the corner of his eye to see how Luna was handling this. They got about half way up and the mountian started to get some flatter areas. The Mountian tops here were covered with snow, Afew pine trees by the look of it too. Curtis pushed Slity over to one of the larger platforms He landed and the snow around them move by the wind from Slity's wing. This platform was covered with snow. There was a wall of stone from the mountian, There's about half an acre of flatten platform where they are, about ten tree's mabye more mabye less. Curtis got off and looked at Luna, "See. Not such a big deal" He laughed abit and helped her down.

luna cautiously climed onto slity's back before curtis clambered on in front of her. she wrapped her arms around him as she always did, but tighter this time in her nerovousness. she clasped her hands together and pressed herself against his back. she felt like she was going to throw up when he took off, even the low height was jarring to her. she buried her face in his back and closed her eyes and they ascended into the sky, up on to the mountain top. she trembled slightly as they soared in the sky, she had never been this high in her life. she was pretty freaked out, eventhough she coulnt see anything. she continued to hold on as she felt them land. he slid off. luna was afraid to open her eyes. she really didnt want to freak out. by touch, she slid off the dragon and set her feet on the ground. it was cold up here, she knew there was snow year-round up here, she could see the white caps on them from the groun. she fumbled around with her eyes closed untill she found curtis and took his hand. she squeezed it tightly. she dared to open her eyes, big mistake. she saw the ground far below and threw herself against curtis and looked up at him with fear in her eyes, her heart beat hard against her chest and luna shook with fright.

Curtis felt Luna clench onto him, He could tell she didn't like this even before they took off. Why did he go through with this if he knew Luna was going to freak out, ALOT. He lightly grabbed Luna when she grabbed him, He didn't want her to feel unsafe; Even though she probably was. He walked over with Luna towards a large tree near the middle of the very flat platform. Curtis sat down gently bringing Luna with him, Once they were on the ground Curtis looked over at Luna. "Im sorry.." Curtis felt pretty bad, He had probably given her a heart attack almost that was somthing they didn't need to happen. She tightend the grip he had around Luna abit. He gently kissed Luna's cheek trying to calm her down, He guessed they were going to be up there very long. But you never know if someone changes their mind about being up on the mountian peaks. There was still a large amount of the mountian above them, They were up quite high but it didn't matter unless they stayed away from the edge. Which Curtis knew Luna wouldn't want to do if she didn't want to have a heart attack looking over the side. "You alright?" Curtis spoke in a concerned tone as he always did when Luna was either Scared or Sad about somthing.

luna probably would have smiled if she wasnt so petrified. she felt safer with curtis holding her close, but the mere idea that she was at this altitude scared her, she was pretty sure even curtis couldnt take away her fear of heights. she appreciated him trying though. she leaned agaimst him with her eyes closed and her shaking arm around him. she couldnt help but be a little happy, she hadnt felt his embrace in awhile, she was glad he was back. she guesssed the only reson he had asked her to do this was because he must still be in an adventurous mood from travelling. coming back to berk might seem dull after a trip. perhaps that was all. when he asked her if she was okay, she opened her eyes and looked into his and said quietly "not really." and fingered the golden bracelet around her wrist. she took a quick glace around, they werent at the edge of the mountain any more, he had brought her over to a place under a tree. she didnt look around for very long becuase eventhough they werent at the edge, she could still see down and over. she returned her eyes to his face and gulped down the urge to sob. she didnt need to cry, she was in enough trouble as it was, she didnt need to make more a mess of things. luna balanced on the brink of tears as her heart continued to pound against her chest.

Curtis looked at Luna's face, He didn't want her to cry or anything. He just wanted her to relax, He wasn't going to let her fall or anything. Yes he knew that she was probably upset that they were at the hieght that they are currently at, Understandable. But all that was on Curtis' mind right now why to try and get Luna to calm down. He gently rubbed her arm and watched her seeing if she calms down abit. Only abit did Curtis want her to calm down, He didn't like seeing her worried or paniced about stuff. He closed his own eyes relaxing himself, He kept rubbing Luna's arm while he kept his eyes shut. The pitch dark of his own eyelids was easier on his eyes then the blinding white snow that was around them on the peaks. The sun's reflection off it was quiet bright and abit annoying. Curtis opened one of his eyes and looked at his swords, He took them both off and put them aside and adjusted himself making himself more comfortable. He didn't fall asleep or anything but it would look like it if he didn't move every now and then, He waited to see if Luna was going to ask anything; Or do anything by that fact.

Luna continued to cower in curtis' arms as she attempted to calm her nerves and return to a normal state. It became increasingly clear as she sat there this wasn't going to happen. She shook in fear, currently unconcerned and mainly unaware of her obvious show of cowerdess in front of Curtis. She didn't like looking weak in front of anyone, but around him she felt like she could let her defensive walls of solid pride crumble to the ground and deteriorate in his loving and comforting prescence. He made her feel like she was the only thing in the world that mattered to him at that moment, his whole mind full of thoughts directed towards her comfort and want to secure her insecurity. He gazed at her with concern, as if she were a puzzle he was trying to piece together. Luna would be one of the first to admit she could be a hard person to understand and to sympathize with, but he managed to earn her trust and her love. He understood her and accepted hEr as she was. Perhaps it was because similar threads of negative past life where woven and wound tightly into the tangled tapestry of each of their lives, which seemed to be intertwining their threads together and weaving life to life.  Those tendrils seemed to reach out and latch on to the other one, strengthening their already inseparable relationship and pulling one towards the other. They both had deep secrets and dark elements to their short, yet wildly eventful lives. Curtis was Lunas anchor, her rock, her protector, her shelter. he was always, constant, never-changing, unwavering, forever, immovable and Luna would never leave him. Ever. She could trust him with anything for anything about anything. He was hers. for always. 

Lunas mind snapped back into reality and she recalled her current position. She hadn't stopped her incessant trembling, even in her deep thought. Her subconscious had kept her nerves high strung even as she slipped into silent reverie for a few short moments. She pulled her gaze up to Curtis and looked him in the eye. "can we go now?" luna asked of him in a small voice filled to the bursting brim with terror, and yet a tinge of trust rung at the end of the simple question. Even in her fear, she knew he would take care of her in the best way he knew how and return her to complete safety and feeling of self-security she could once again have the pleasure of experiencing when her feet were planted firmly on the solid ground.

Curtis stared at Luna for a moment before looking down at the white ground beneath them. When he heard Luna ask if they could go down Curtis looked over and nodded his head at Luna, He knew she wouldn't want to be up here for very long. Mabye even not at all! But why was it Curtis decided to try and get Luna up her and succeded if he knew this was going to happen? Who knows mabye just a random feeling of wanting to go up there and share the experiance, Even though that experiance could of just scared Luna for life. But mabye She would of been better with him up there with him, It worked abit He guessed but still. Curtis let a small whistle from his mouth, The wind carried it into Slity's ears, He perked up and walked over to them and nudged Curtis' stomach. "Alright, Let's go then" Curtis got up and offered a hand out to Luna to help her up. When she got up Curtis walked over and hopped onto Slity's back, Even though they were at the height they were Slity's body was very warm. Who knows how, White is suppose to reflect heat and make that item or thing colder Was it just becuase his body heat kept him warm by himself or somthing else that couldn't be explained unless Slity could speak english to them and that wasn't going to happen, If it did. Not for a very long time them.

Once Luna was on Curtis lightly patted Slity, He started to flap his wings and turn himself around in a circle to the edge, "Ok. Just Relax." Slity started over the edge and started to make his desent to the ground below. He was going an avarage speed for being comfortable, So it wouldn't take too long to get to the ground level once again. It only took about a minute or two before they reached the forest tops, Slity flew over it looking around for a place to land. Most likely their home. Slity scanned the forest and found nothing so far. "Ugh... I should really get myself and Slity to cut the tree cover above out home abit. Getting harder to look for it. Like a bad weed or somthing." Curtis laughed and conitnued to look around, They had been flying for what? 15 minutes now? Curtis dropped his head on Slity's head, "Why is this so hard all of the sudden!?"

Luna heard Curtis mumbling to himself, something about tree cover and something else about landing- it wad hard to hear with her face pressed into his back. Her arms were, as always, wrapped around him and her eyes were clamped shut. Luna wished wished he would hurry up and land. By this time they had to be down from the mountain. She didn't dare open her eyes until the could feel that they were no longer in motion. She wondered where Curtis was taking her. She waited another minute before she got kind of impatient. "where are we going Curtis?" She asked nervously. She said it loud enough that he would be able to her her despite that her face was in his shirt. "can we just land?" she pleaded. She was ready to be out of the air and on the ground. She didn't want to fly any more today. She was glad they were finally back, but she was definably done with this for right now. Much longer and she was sure she was going to throw up, and she didn't want Curtis to see that. That would he so embarrassing, but she couldn't change the inevitable and her stomach was doing crazy backflips right now. Why weren't they landing?! There were millions of places to touch down. They had the entire ground for gods sake!!! Why didn't he just hurry up and make a desicition? He knew she wasn't in a great state right now, he had seen her worse, and she was going to get worse if they didn't land very very soon.
