Cataract was looking for dragons, not a difficult task in the mountains, but he wanted to find something more difficult and challenging. Probably best to go for a cave, one that looked interesting. Then he saw it, about a quarter mile ahead was a light coming from the mountainside. It was obviously not any form of fire... Just an erie glow. It was difficult to see, as the sun was out, but Both Cataract and the dragon beside him had trained themselves to look for abnormalities anywhere. These usually were signs that a dragon was near.
"What do you think Eroy" He asked in dragonese. " Your guess is as good as mine" Replied the dragon. Cataract patted Eroy on the back, feeling the stumps where his wings were. "You're going to need some ointment tonight, I think they're starting to get infected again" "Yeah... I know, but come on, lets see what's in that cave."
THey walked in silence for a while, neither taking their eyes off the light longer than they had to in case whatever it was up there decided to fly off. It was a difficult walk for Cateract, even the simplest ledges to climb over are difficult with one arm. Fortunately, with the help of Eroy, they managed to reach the mouth of the cave. Cataract peered inside cautiously. A short tunnel lead to a cavern, which contained the glow somewhere above eyesight due to the low ceiling of the tunnel. In the middle of the cavern was a gronkle. It was dragging one of its back legs as though it was injured. Catching a glimpse of its face, Cataract saw that it was frightened… And not flying, it probably had a hurt wing too.
“You okay?” Asked Cataract. “Yeah, get lost, it’s just a glow-worm”
A glow worm! Thought Cataract. He had only been able to study one once before, and even then not for long. A ramming roller had forced him to make a hasty retreat. As Cataract was about to enter the cave he saw a fast stream of fireballs flying down at the gronkle, who immediately blasted a tremendous burst of flame at the ceiling. A scorched body fell from the ceiling.
“Well Eroy” Said Cataract “We have an injured gronkle to attend to… And at least we can preform an autopsy on the glow-worm…”

Sven was aimlessly wandering around the vicinity of Hermes' 'hole'. He found there were lots of caves dotted around here and there, some larger, some smaller. Wondering why Hermes couldn't have taken a cave with easier access, he soon figured out that most of them were already occupied.
He soon was walking past yet another cavern entrance, but what struck him most was a eerie glow coming from inside. And the echoes of conversation in dragonese. One he could obviously tell that one was a dragon, but also a strange accent from the other was different - a human.
Curiosity piqued, Sven entered the cave cautiously. He cursed himself for not bringing some sort of torch. Not wanting to startle whoever, or whatever was at the end of this cave, he made sure to make plenty of noise as he continued. A hand following the wall and feet trying not to trip over jagged rocks, he soon made it to where Cataract, Eroy and a Gronckle was. An eerie glow was coming from a somewhat frazzled dragon on the floor, slowly fading.
Keeping to the sidelines, Sven shuffled his feet a bit, not quite sure how to make of the situation. He would have loved to study this dead dragon, having never seen one, and felt sort of sad that it's life had been snuffed out, probably because of territorial issued. The dragon by the other man's side was unknown to him either, but in this dim light, it was becoming more and more difficult to tell. Well, he might as well figure out what happened.
"Hi." He said.

Cataract heard the noise of someone approaching, but didn't fully take in the fact that someone was there at first. He was too busy attempting to convince the Gronkle to come with him so that he could help. He was attempting to be the alpha dog by standing his ground and looking fierce. That always worked on Gronkles... But Cataract wasn't particularly good at it. Even with his fearsomely scarred face he just couldn't often muster true anger. It was hard to make him angry when you were trying. As he was about to give up a voice came from behind him.
"Hi"
Glad to have someone to help Cataract began talking instantly "There's a hurt dragon here, and I am probably going to need some help. If you could get me a piece of wood and some twine that could work as a splint on its leg that would be great. Also I think I may need some form of sedative as it doesn't seem like it will come willingly. I don't know much about medicine, but I do know that valarian root will do the trick eventually, it won't be hard to get him to smell it as he does not seem to be going anywhere. If you know of anything that would work faster please tell me, as Valarian will be slow. Also..." He turned around to see that he was looking at Sven. "Oh, you're a dragonologist too, aren't you? Also I would like your professional opinion then. Luna told me about you while she was helping me cure some scale loss on a Basic Brown. You look just like she described."
Cataract breathed a sigh of relief. Another dragonologist would know how to help, and not have to be told specifically. The Gronkle was now getting restless though, two humans and an unknown dragon. Cataract saw this and quickly pulled a vial of water out of his sack.
"Don't even think of breathing fire or I'll use it" he said in dragonese.
He would have thrown it on the annoying little Gronkle outright, but he only had the one vial, and if the dragon's head dried... He shuddered. This was proving a difficult situation already, not to mention the fact that the cavern had many tunnels leading off it. Who knew what lurked down there, he hoped Sven would be some help.

Sven was somewhat suprised as the other man seemed to give him a set of instructions, something to do with an injured dragon. Averting his gaze from Cataract, he saw the bad shape of the Gronckle.
"You're a dragonologist too?" Sven asked, after his instructions were given. It had been a while since he had seen Luna, but he smiled inwardly at the fact she had mentioned him. He remembered seeing from time to time someone studying a dragon, but never really had the time to approach the individual. He shook his head. Now wasn't the greatest time for acquaintance.
"From what I've learned, Gronckles tend to be quite stubborn, but if tamed are quite loyal. I got a few ideas to fix this guy, but first we need that equipment, right?" Reaching into his back, he retrieved a handful of always-useful twine, and stuffing it into a pocket. However he didn't have any Valarian root on him, nor wood. Looking back to the Gronckle, he gave a frown. Maybe this type of persuasion would work.
"Look, we're only really here to help you get better. I mean, if you want to kill us, it would be more honourable if you were in top shape, right? And it is rather cold in here; I think the sun outside would warm you up quite nicely." He hoped it would work, and there were no rocks to eat outside the cave, so no fire blasts. Speaking in common again, he turned to Cataract. "Make sure he doesn't eat rocks. I'm going outside to get some stuff, if he follows me, then that's good."
With that, Sven retreated to the daylight. The sun blinded him briefly, but drawing two fingers to his mouth, he let out a clear, loud whistle that cut through the serene silence of the mountainside. In the distance, a black figure shot out the ground, and Hermes came before him. "Okay Hermes, I need you to be as fast as you can." Telling the sleek dragon the situation, she soon fled to fetch the desired supplies, knowing exactly where to go. He sighed, hoping she would return quickly. Looking back to the cave entrance, he hoped the Gronckle would take the bait.

Wow, thought Cataract, Sven was handeling it well. He was both impressed and jealous... But he didn't deal with Gronkles if he could help it, so Sven probably had more practice on that front. Cataract never would have thought to bring up honor. Still though, the Gronkle didn't budge, though he looked tempted to go. Fortunately though, Cataract was good enough at picking up on a tack once someone had started it.
"You know" Cararact began after a whispered conversation with Eroy "True bravery is sometimes measured through ability to handle all frightening situations well... Allowing us to help you, putting yourself in the hands of complete strangers would show true bravery. And it will all come to your advantage in the end."
The Gronkle wavered. It was extremely tempting to prove his bravery, but it was also against every instinct in his body to trust a human. Cataract and Eroy could see the mental gears working in the dragon's head. It was obviously not quite enough. Cataract hoped Sven would come back into the cave, just a little more persuasion would make the tipping point, and he couldn't think of anything else. Just in the nick of time Eroy chimed in.
"Coming from another dragon I think that the most difficult and brave thing in the world is to trust a human. The bravest and most honorable thing I have ever done is saving the life of a human. Maybe if you trust them you will get to do the same one day.

Hermes flew, with a displeased impression. She wasn't a forager, nor some sort of truffle-sniffing pig either. Feeling quite lazy, instead of looking for that blasted root herself, she'd go to Luna's place. She had all sorts of remedies there, and Luna would know what to do before the two men mess everything up and get the Gronckle into even more trouble. "Pfft. Men." She muttered.
Swiftly and elegantly landing behind Luna's house, knowing the back door into the healing den would be open, she pushed it open, ducking her head to enter. She quickly found Luna. Hermes cleared her throat, bowing her head discreetly and poiltely. Once Luna had finished whatever she was doing and attention focused on her, she began:
"Hey. Do you have any Valarian root, or something like that? Theres a couple of boys on the mountainside with a broken Gronckle, and I've been turned into a messenger girl without consent."
Meanwhile, back on the hillside, Sven and Cataract finally managed to coax the Gronckle outside. Sven realllly hoped the Hermes would return soon, because if this dragon warms up enough, they're both going to be in a lot of trouble.

Luna turned around and saw a feathery-looking obsidian black dragon in her back room. She jumped a little, she wadn expecting her. she relized it was sven's dragon, hermes. She greeted the regal looking dragon. "what do you need treatment for? I might have something better, come on, you can come to the main room- I know you train well enough not to destroy things" she walked over to where her herbs hung, dry in the rafters. She pulled her stool over so she could get the herb that could be used best for the situation. She glanced over to Hermes, waiting quietly for a reply. She was such a beautiful dragon, such a unique and rare species. She wondered where she and Sven were from. She knew they were wanderers, travelers as they preferred to be called. But they had to be from somewhere originally, right. Luna glances over at Hermes again, waiting for an answer on what the problem was.

Back on the mountain things weren't going so well. After leaving the cave the gronkle had had a change of heart and was trying to walk away on his own. The attempts were not particularly successful with the bent wing and broken leg, but it didn't change the fact that it was making trouble. Whenever someone would get near the creature it would lash out and bite. Eroy had quickly gained a deep cut on his back leg due to this. The worst bit was, though, that there was a pile of rocks in the mud nearby. It wouldn't be hard to keep the gronkle from getting away, and give it the medicine it needed... But if it got to the rocks... all hell would break loose.
Suddenly Eroy smiled "Does anyone have a stick!? Quickly!"
Cateract fished through his backpack "Uh... no"
"Well anything sort of thin and sticklike?"
"I might have those dragon bones we dug up a couple months ago"
"Perfect, get me a short bone, like for a toe or... Longer than that one.... Perfect." Eroy directed as Cataract fished out the bones.
Eroy then commenced to walk over happily and sit on the pile of rocks. Cataract was of the mind that he was just going to get himself bitten again, but Eroy did seem quite confident.
"Come over here with the bone, Cataract, and do exactly as I say..."
They sat for a moment while the gronkle advanced, as it got closer Eroy said
"Stay absolutely still, be ready to move when it opens its mouth to bite..."
Cataract was obedient. Eroy obviously seemed to know what he was doing... The gronkle opened his mouth.
"NOW! Shove the bone in so it props up his jaw!"
The gronkle looked puzzled for a minute then chomped the bone and spat it out.
"It worked on crocodiles in all the stories" Said Eroy defensively.

Hermes closed her eyes for a moment, a smile twitching where muscles controlled the small portion of skin around the corners of her mouth. "I wasn't trained." She followed Luna into the front room, just squeezing through the wooden door frame.
"So you said you had something perhaps better?" Hermes gave a little sigh of satisfaction. Less work for her, yay! "I have a funny feeling that them two human boys aren't getting up to good... Maybe you should come and sort things out? It would probably be less of a hassle."
Hermes watched Luna get supplies, and waited patiently for an answer. If it was yes, she would bound out that door straight away with the girl and rush to the scene, dearly wanting this to be over and done with.
Meanwhile on the mountainside, Sven watched the other dragonologist and his dragon. Watching their failed plan, Sven sat on the ground and pulled out a pan and a wooden spoon. Giving a sharp whistle, like how he did to call Hermes but less loudly, he grabbed the Gronckle's attention. Now it was hurtling towards Sven like a huge boulder, the human began pounding the pan with the wooden spoon.
He had read the tomes of dragons before they had become friendlier to the viking population, and had read that most dragons in these parts get confused by loud noises. It worked the trick, and the Gronckle's steps faltered, soon walking as if it was drunk or dizzy... or both. It soon fell over in a daze.
Clapping his hands together, he stood up again, and observed the Gronckle. "I hope Hermes comes back soon."

Luna looked up at hermes when she said she hadnt been trained. That was weird, she had always seemed trained. Well, she thought, she has pretty good manners for not being trained. Luna pushed her stool around the room, stepping up on to it when she found the herb she wanted and collecting some of the dried leaves or stems or roots or berries. Once she had in her hand an ample supply of The herbs they would need for the job she set the dried plants on the counter before scooting her step-stool back into it's proper place in the corner. She collected a few things, a stump for grinding the herbs- she could find a rock when she got out there, a small canteen of water to make tHe dried plants into a paste, her knife as she always had when venturing into the forest without another human and just a few other little things she might need. If they asked for her herbs, she was going to go do this herself. She didn't really trust other people to practice medicine without her, well not so much that she didn't trust them as much as she prefered to do it herself. She set all her things in her leather bag and put it over her head and ran the strap across her chest and set the bag on her hip. The day was a bit damp and chilly so she took her shawl and placed it over her shoulders and used a pin to close it in the front. She turned to Hermes "yes, Hermes. I was planning on coming with you. I prefer to do things myself. Where are they?" she asked in dragonese

Cataract was annoyed with Eroy, he was never following that dragon blindly again... But the scolding would have to wait. They needed to make sure the dragon didn't get up when it came out of the daze. Eroy was standing to the side of the scene, wanting to help, but embarrassed by his recent failure. Finally he plucked up his courage and spoke
"Um... Cataract... I have another idea."
"For what? The gronkle is out for the time being"
"Yeah... But I... I have no idea... I forgot."
Cataract looked at Eroy with confusion. He was usually an extremely intelligent creature. He walked over and patted Eroy's head.
"Eroy! You're burning up, the gronkle must have been badly sick when he bit you..." The sooner Luna got there the better... On a sudden whim Cataract decided it would be best to have the gronkle tied up. "Sven" He said "I am going to need that twine, now that it's still I can tie it up so it can't hurt itself, keep making noise though!"
Cataract prayed to any devine entity that would listen in the hopes that Hermes and Luna would get there soon... And with the proper remedy to whatever Eroy and the Gronkle had... Though the latter was a bit of a long shot.

Sven noticed that Cataract's cat-like dragon was beginning to take the toll of it's injury. He frowned. Now they had two sick dragons on their hands.
"Look, you're going to have to get your dragon to stop moving. If it increasing the blood flow in it's body the poison will spread faster." He said this loudly and confidently. Reaching for his bag, he pulled out the twine and handed it to the fellow dragonologist. he didn't mind not making the noise anymore - the dragon will probably stay knocked out for a few minutes. If it tried to wake up, then Sven would proceed to make noises again.
Setting the pan and spoon down, he then withdrew his notebook and began making sketches of Eroy, no longer as active, it was easier to sketch the little beast.
Hermes beamed at Luna's agreement in coming with her. She was glad that she hadn't taken off the saddle earlier. "They're up in the mountains. It won't take long for us to reach there." She was about to turn and leave, making sure her tail wouldn't knock anything over, when she sensed a sort of uneasiness around Luna. Craning her eagle-like head around, she cocked her head slightly.
"Is something wrong?" Hermes' twin crests fell flat as a slight irritance twanged inside her. She frowned. "Please don't tell me you don't like flying?" Hermes was a dragon of the sky - walking all the way there would take hours and would cramp her style. There had to be a compromise. There had to be. She waited for Luna's response, whether a fear of flying was really the truth, or if something else bugged her.

Luna hesitated for a moment and looked at her boots before looking up at hermes and saying to her " no, i dont like flying....it scares me. well, its not so much flying as height becuase i'll fly with curtis on slity, but um...i just dont really like heights." her voice trailed off after she reluctantly admitted the rather embarrasing fact to the dragon. she knew it was really stupid, and a dragon wouldnt understand- much less a dragon built for high flight such as hermes. she shuffled her feet and glanced up at hermes, a sheepish and embarred look apon her face. she stood there awkwardly, not sure what to do next.

Cataract watched Sven sketching his dragon, and looked around for something to do. He thought about going in to the cave and pulling out the dead dragon to sketch himself, but thought that he should probably wait until Luna got there and the whole dragon problem was sorted out. Cataract then thought to talk to Eroy to comfort him, but quickly saw that his dragon was half asleep. There was no sense disturbing a sick, sleeping dragon... with Eroy there was no since disturbing a sleeping dragon period. If he was awakened too early all of those well thought out ethics about violence would suddenly be no more important than the color of the carpeting (which would be extremely unimportant if you were dealing with a grumpy morning Eroy). So Cataract sat. He hated having nothing to do and just sitting to wait, but that was probably the best thing at the current moment. If only he had brought a book.

Storm flew through the air, gliding along the thermals that were scattered along the mountainside, feeling the breeze flow past her face. It felt nice along her scale covered face, cooling her down from her hot sunbath. Smelling the air, she tensed when she realized the smell. It was the smell of vikings, and the smell of tamed dragons. She pin-pointed the spot, but with her recent encounter with another dragon, Storm's eyesight was pretty blurry.
"Just great. I can smell them, but can't see them." She grumbled inside her head, cussing in her own native tongue. She glided lower, trying to see them, but it was getting to be worse. Storm became worried she would crash into the mountain, and injure herself beyond repair. She turned her head and looked behind her, making sure nothing followed her. She smelt of fear, and worry, which other dragons could plainly smell from a mile away.
"Oh no oh no oh no oh no. I am NOT crashing again." She yelled in her head. Lowering just a bit went to far. She hit something, buckling her wings and slamming down a patch of tree's. Birds flew in every direction to avoid the black and purple ball that hurtled down the mountainside. When she skidded to a halt, she couldn't feel her right forearm. Looking down, her head heavy and swirling, she spotted her front claw, bruised and swelling. She wailed loudly, screaming in pain. It could be heard about a mile away.
"IT HURTS SO MUCH..." She screamed in her own native tongue, and with a final glimpse at the sky, she was engulfed in a black wave of unconsciousness...
